One thing I guess I missed in all of this is exactly why or when someone would have ten or whatever number of tabs opened anyways? I can see bouncing between two or three and I've done that myself. But, is it me or does it seem like some of the people here are just brushing up on their software quality assurance skills and trying to make the thing barf? I'm not saying there isn't a problem here somewhere but....ehhhhh.... I'm not sure what to take from this?

Ironically my Air doesn't crash at all and runs faster than any other iPad I've ever used. The games all fly, every app is snappy and responsive, what the hell is going on out there?

You realize this depends on what content is in the tabs you are loading, right? Because I can open 15 MacRumors tabs and not a single reload....

That is what we have talking about constantly. Not everyone just open websites with pure texts. Lots of us views forums, watching video online, looking at pictures. These contents really takes lots of RAM away.

----------

I guess I better start slapping myself. Without running a deep diagnostic you can only theorize what's causing the underlining issue. The Verge used to constantly lock up my desktop PC and it has 12 GB of ram.

You should realized that I am not saying that adding more RAM will solve everything, but not adding RAM won't makes the situation better. Seriously, iPad need more RAM for Safari not constantly reloading tabs. Most of us do not just view websites only contains texts.

And you should realize that not everyone has the same problem, that it depends on what sites you load, and that this could be caused by a bug in the OS.

The iPad needs to work properly as designed.

You should also realized Safari reloading is a common problem faced by iPad users. RAM usage or bug, it does not rally matter now. No matter how much evidences we showed you, you just won't listen.

I don't care what cause Safari crash or reloading the tabs, it is annoying to me and lots of other user. It is not a good experience.

It would be useless

There are a lot of threads like this, with people having the same problems as mine

It's an iOS 7 issue, and Apple should fix this ASAP

No it is not useless. Apple looks at that stuff when assigning priority on whether or not to fix a problem. Its best to get your vote in.

The tabs reloading happens most of the time and it seems that at least once a day while scrolling down a web page Safari closes by itself and I'm back at the home screen. I've also had Chrome do the same thing. I've had the App Store do this too. I'll be searching and there I am, back at the home screen. I really hope this is a software issue that can be solved in a reasonable amount of time.

Exchange your iPad. If enough people keep trading them into App,e eventually they will get the hint.

Evidence of what? That iPad/Safari uses RAM? Of course it does. Evidence that the 1GB design decision is responsible for the crashes? Ummmmm, no. Try harder.

Well, on this we can agree. If Safari crashes, it is annoying. For a lot of other users, it's not an issue. Maybe they just browse text.

[Apple wankery]

I'm not sure what you don't understand. You claimed that you loaded 15 tabs and I said you should actually try using those tabs, not just as still-images, to see if those 15 tabs stay without reloading. Was that too hard still? If this was obvious, why make the claim you can load 15 tabs? Because your favorite company 4 lyfe was insulted and you ran up quick to defend?

I can load 20, maybe even more, and it won't refresh if I don't do anything in the tabs besides glance at the front page. Woop de doo. We spent $500+ for that?

And it was 3 tabs that were in use before it had to reload. Check your reading comprehension, I'm sure a lot of your posts would be unnecessary if you just were a tiny bit better at it.

Can't speak for anyone else, but what I do is, I land on a website like NY Times, I go to the main page. Open articles that look interesting in separate tabs. I can easily have 10+ tabs open just from that.

Then, as I read through an article, if a link seems interesting, I'd open that in a separate tab. So open tabs can accumulate very quickly.

Or I'm on Amazon, looking at products, I open up a tab for each product that looks interesting. That also ends up with lots of tabs open.

Or I google a topic, get lots of search results, open promising links in separate tabs...

So pretty easy to end up with lots of open tabs!

And what makes you think I don't use them? Are you going to tell me how I use Safari? I'm not responsible for your assumptions.

It was fun, but you obviously are incapable of having a civil discussion. Welcome to my ignore list.

Apple will announce a new updated rmini in Spring of 2014 with 2Gb Ram and updated more uniform screens with 100% gamut. Book it.

After the ipad 4 fiasco, i dont trust apple for a single word they say.
It's possible that Apple will release new rMini and Air models in the Spring of 2014. I don't think it is a given though.

I really doubt that will happen. iPad 4 was a one time thing to adjust the release cycle of iPads from Spring to Fall. Now that a Fall release cycle for iOS devices has been established, I expect Apple to stick with it for a while.

We'll see who's right come Spring!
There's been a lot of speculation surrounding Apple releasing the iPad 4 so soon after the iPad 3 which has been repeated so often that people believe it to be fact. The truth is, no one knows the reason why Apple released the iPad 4 so soon after the iPad 3.

What we DO know, is should Apple release updates to the rMini and Air in the Spring 2014, half of the members here will complain about getting shafted by buying the original rMini and Air, the other half will defend Apple.

Apple introduced the new Lightning connector in fall of 2012. It was on the iPhone 5, iPod touch 5th gen, and iPad mini.

It would have been stupid for Apple not to release an updated iPad with the new Lightning connector.

Oh please. Try removing your fanboy glasses.

Ive been playing with the nexus 7 and samsung 10.1 note 2014 edition all day today and it doesnt have any of these refreshes or random crashes. Both are super smooth and the note has the S pen.

You can do true multitasking on the note.

Bad cat, bad!

To add this they also shifted the ipad to fall;

Ipad 4 - fall
Ipad air - fall
Ipad air 2 - fall

Why would they release another ipad in march and reset the cycle when the previous pattern suggests otherwise.

Then there is the biggest factor - apple does not care about the RAM, they don't announce it or release the specs of it, they thought it was fine to release the air with 1gb, it sold, so why would they release another so soon. Whatever stopped them putting in 2gb for launch will stop them adding it in March/Spring.

Ahhhh, ok, I didn't think of that use case where you'd open tabs from within a certain site by clicking links and stuff. Good point. Still seems like ten is a large number but I can see it happening. I do the same thing sometimes but rarely end up with more than three or four being used at the same time.

But that is nothing more than your theory. Apple never stated why they released the iPad 4 when they did.

Why would they tell anyone why they released the iPad 4 when they did?

Just use logic and it takes you very far.

- Need to update outdated hardware
- Holiday season gives them more sales

If only Apple would have the BTO option for the iPads all problems would be solved.
It is kind of a waste for Apple to put 2 gbs into every single iPads since probably most of the people are light users who can do well with just 1 gb ram.
And the minority who needed the 2gbs can order that online...
why didn't Apple do this?

So you would upgrade to the next version. Why satisfy you with one, when they can somewhat "force" you to buy two?

Money #1
User experience/satisfaction #2

I never said that they should. But absent an official explanation, all that we're left with is speculation. That speculation may be based on a logical progression, but simply because it seems logical doesn't mean that it is true.

And that speculation certainly shouldn't be used as an irrefutable fact to support one's opinion. All that does is make the person seem foolish.

Yes, but not always in the right direction. You should familiarize yourself with the "5 blind men and the elephant" as an example.

I think it has to do with technical issues and logistics. I am sure that at some point we will see that, but also remember that Apple never discusses the amount of RAM its products have (apart from their computers). I never understood that, but that is how it is.

The problem with your explanation is that you are implying that Apple only tells the truth and nothing but the truth. So if Apple told why they released the iPad 4 that would be the truth and the only truth and would render all other speculation based on logical and a bit critical thinking not true because they arent from Apple.

Doesn't that seem a bit foolish?
