It's evident that the 3G has the best screen (in terms of white temp and contrast). I've had 32 GB 925, and two 924 blacks and all have it.

If I didn't have the 3G I wouldn't know about it, so I try not to look at it anymore. For me, it's more the washed out colors that bother me.

so it seems that 925's are the only ones without the issue. what do you guys have?

We have 2 - 25's from Best Buy. Both have yellow at the bottom of the screen. I will say it's a DRASTIC improvement over my 2 previous 3GS. Both were 23's

This defect was explained to me as follows:

The light source for the screeen must be on the top. Therefore because this light must travel the whole length if the screen, but doesn't quite make it, we see yellowing.

Thats bogus. Neither the 2g nor the 3g had this issue.

Not to mention it's called a "backlight" for a reason.

I had my 3G replaced under warranty and the replacement had the yellow screen issue that people are reporting on the 3GS. The bottom half of the screen was more yellow than the top half. It was especially noticeable in low light.

I had the refurb replaced because of it (and a speck of dust under the glass, and a mushy home button). The second refurb had a screen much closer to my original 3G. My feeling was the first refurb might have been new, and the second was a definite refurb based on the gunk still on the screen... I can only guess about the first one though.

So it seems the yellow screen issue is present for the 3G as well as the 3GS. My guess is that it's a different part used for the screen. Different manufacturer maybe? Just like in the notebooks, some screens are better than others.

are you guys sure you don't have it? turn to max brightness, go to the settings page and look quickly at top and bottom.

You're fooling yourself into looking through excess blood in your eye filtering light such that white looks yellow.

923 here. I don't notice any yellow tinge. My 3GS is warmer than my friend's 2G, but cooler(?) than my old 3G. Perfect temp screen I guess. (for me at least)

EDIT: And yes, I did go to settings and turn my brightness all the way. I also then opened my flashlight app to have an all white screen to compare. No yellow tinge at the bottom
.

Same here. No yellow. Week 25 here.

are you sure? go into settings, turn it to max brightness. look at the top and then the bottom really quickly.

You have this effect because of the very bright "brightness" bar (and very white) and at the bottom you have nothing.... it is an illusion your brain is playing on you.

LoL, I get to look at sarah on the bottom of the screen here on ol macrumors? Lucky me... what a tard.

I have a week 22, and my screen is ever so slightly more yellow on the bottom. The settings app is where I see it most (the main page, not the brightness settings page)...as you say, if you change focus from top to bottom. I don't really notice it in the flashlight app, and I think this is because my eyes are seeing a gradual change all the way down the screen. If I cover the middle portion of the screen on the flashlight app, then I can see a difference, though in both apps, I sometimes think I can only really see it because I'm looking for it.

I have no intention of returning my handset, as the rest of it is perfect. I have no dead pixels, no mushy/loose buttons, no dust under the screen, and no raised bezel. The tilt sensor is off by about 4 degrees, but most of the games have calibration built in now, and it works just fine when switching orientation. The compass isn't always 100% accurate, but I doubt any of them will be.

Last year, I had to exchange my 3G 3 times for very real problems, and I really don't want to get into that again. The next one could have a perfect screen, but poor build quality.

Anyway...just my 2 cents :)

As a veteran of many eye operations, if you have excess blood in your eye, then you really shouldn't be worrying about a yellow screen.

My 25 week has yellowing at the bottom. I've learned to live with it. I'm trying to forgot about it but you people keep posting these threads!! :p

It's noticeable in safari. Get a blank page and turn it landscape look left to right (slow, fast, however you want). It's not an illusion.

Oh and Adblock plus. I assume you're talking about palin? (My deepest condolences for your pain :()

Are you serious??? Do you know how many threads complaining about yellow screens appeared when the 3G came out??

They had a warmer temperature, but it least it was uniformly warmer. I.e. not a gradient of color.

I could deal with a solidly warmer screen that could be adjusted via software.

I have a week 23 black 16G and although I do notice that the whites are more "bone" or "eggshell" than white, I do not notice any difference between the top and bottom of the screen.
I do prefer the more blue/white of my original 2G screen (that screen was nearly perfect IMO) but I must say that the contrast on this 3GS is quite stunning (moreso even than my 2G). The colors of the icons against the black background truly "pop" and nearly look 3D as they almost seem to "float" above the dark black background. Perhaps this has something to do with the new graphics chip?

Anyway, I have grown accustomed to the "warmer" whites of the 3GS and as some have mentioned everything else is perfect (home button, bezel, pixels, battery, no "gunk" under screen) and the build quality seems very solid (kind of like a German car)...
The only thing I would return this unit for is to upgrade to a 32Gig...:D

I also think all screens have it, some are just less pronounced and practically impossible to see in some cases unless you look closely but all screens i've seen thus far have it in one form or another

Asking people if they see it is also not gonna be an accurate test seeing as its all subjective

Yes, I am. That issue was resolved and my 3G has excellent contrast, cool whites and vivd colors. My 3GS is brighter, but has washed out colors and that ugly yellow (warm) look to white pages.

If you believe all of them have it, it probably should not be considered a defect then.

Mine doesn't have it though. No yellowing at all on any part of the screen at full brightness, no matter what I look at on the screen.

have you ever compared it to a model? you really have to compare it to bring out the difference the first time so it registers in your head and then you always see it from that point on.
