you could probli manage to get it replaced for a new one just make up a problem tell them it overheats or whatever
Except that would be fraud. Why must somebody always suggest trying to commit fraud against a company. At least the OP has taken responsibility for their actions/what happened, and not trying to claim that this damage was covered under warranty (which doesn't include accidental damage).

I hate it when people do that! Especially when they're trying to hide the object in question that they're not supposed to play with and in the process damage it. Arggh! I've had that happen to me so many times. OR when a crowd of people look at your phone or whatever and they're all excited and crazy over it and become uncontrollable.

Anyway, to all those people who slay this guy for having the cell phone in high school are probably jealous. This is the 21st century. Stop having the "stay off my backyard!" moment just because you didn't have a cell phone when you were in high school. NOT having a cellphone would be considered weird.

At least this guy is a senior and not a snobby 6 year old with an iPhone (which I have seen), because I would concede that that is a little much. Those people who need to text 24/7 also need a reality check, but in the end, having a cell phone in high school is not weird.

Also, many school fights and crimes end up on Youtube and help catch the perpetrators. Sometimes having one landline in each classroom is not enough for super big emergencies.

I still attend highschool and i am a senior and someone who is in my class ask if they can see my iPhone 3G S. It is only 4 days old. I have never dropped it and still looks brand new. I then go and sharpen my pencil. She has it between her legs trying to hide the phone while teh teacher came by. Apparent she was spooked and drop the phone. Now the back of my iPhone has small chips out of it...very small but kind of noticeable...i wanted at last one week of it lookin new....
I think i am definately going to buy a case lol....and i will no longer let people i do not know use or see my iPhone as i am not trying to pay a 199 replacement fee in the first few months...

So let me get this... your school has a policy that you are not allowed to have cell phones. Knowing this and having a VERY VALUABLE new 3GS, you not only take it out during class (where it could possibly be take away ), but you let ANOTHER STUDENT, not an adult, but A KID (under 18) take hold of your phone . I guess that's why our society doesn't let kids enter into legal contracts and do a lot of other stuff until they are 18. Key word: RESPONSIBILITY. Keep that 3GS in your backpack! If you want to impress that sexy girl who likes to put things between her legs, maybe you should show her your 3GS before class or after class (I've graduated college now, but back when I was in school, we were allowed to have cell phones out in the hallways between classes and during lunch). Good luck with the girl, dude. Tell her she owes you now... she has to buy you lunch because she scratched your phone. Tell her she can play with your 3GS while you eat lunch with her. :D

Helpful Tip with your phone: Take it back to the Apple store. It shouldn't chip after only 4 days. Tell them you barely dropped the thing and it chipped. If you are really nice and get a nice Apple employee, they will replace your phone. Seriously, phones should not chip if you drop them from two feet off of the ground. And, using the "responsibility" word again, Get A Case!!! (I recommend the real rubber Incase cases, and not the cheap plastic rubber ones).

I didn't get a cell phone until I was 18 years old and out of school. There was never a school emergency that required a cell phone, due to landlines being cut or for any of the other stupid reasons discussed in this thread. You do not need a phone in school.

Sorry about your phone being dropped by your careless classmate.

Zack Morris!!! That's a Zack Morris cell phone. On Saved By The Bell, Zack was soooo cool 'cause he had a brick size/weight cell phone when NO one else did. :D The latest FreeCreditReport.com ad parodies it. Glad we're at iPhone size/weight phones now.

Alright its time to set everyone here straight on the whole cell phone at school thing:
first off, I'm about to start junior year of high school. I have an iPhone and I bring it with me everyday to school and use it every day at school, every class aside from pe. I text all the time in class(not like some ppl who are constant, but), eat in class all the time, talk in class constantly, never pay attention, and never study no matter what. I HAVE HAD STRIAGHT A's SINCE SEVENTH GRADE! the reason kids are stupid isn't that they are txting in class, it's just that they are plain stupid. Nothing gonna change that so get over it and stop trying to "fix them". Ain't gonna work. Another reason kids these days are stupid is because in my experience, 85-90% of teachers are either freakin terrible or below average. I've had 20ish teachers since 7th grade 2-3 of them have actually known there subject and been able to teach it effectively. No disrespect to those teachers who actually do it right, but most teachers I've had first tried to get a different job. Then theyrealized they were dumbsh*ts and went back to get a teaching degree in their spare time because it's the best thing the idiots could come up with. Teachers are useless and insanely boring and that's another reason I text in class. Unless your some sort of hardcore nerd, u text in class. I personally text everyday in class and have never been caught. More proof of terrible teachers. Phoes in class are the only way to keep our sanity. They don't stop us from learning the terrible teachers and school system along with just idiotic students are the problem. Phones don't affect learning!!!

Yea straight a student, and yes that was a rant. Certain things, like morons who think cell phones should be banned in school and the complete stupidity of the overall public school system, piss me off. Therefore I rant. Not only do I get straight A's but I also am an extremely fast test taker. When I finish and have to sit silently for sometimes up to an hour in a row, my phone is the only thing that stops me from falling asleep or going nuts, which are both also not allowed. That is another reason why cell phones should b allowed in schools. Sorry about the typos and maybe a little bit of bad grammer but I'm not the best typer. Also I know the last post did sound a little more PO'd then necessary but that is how I chose to get my point an firm beliefs across
peace out

Omg every thread on mac rumors turns into spelling and grammar rants. Its an internet forum people not an English paper! :p

That sucks about someone dropping your phone but I still think its crazy kids have cell phones in school. Back in 1999 and 2000 I was literally the only person in my class I knew that had a cell phone. (That was back when you could get cell phones at age 17 on contract and pay $200 instead of a credit check).

It was the smallest phone under $200 but was still huge by todays standards. It stayed in my car lol.

Correct, but I think it's easy to get riled when someone posts about how intelligent they are and then can't spell...

Yes I spelled grammar wrong on purpose. And the stupid teachers have to give me good scores because I got all the answers right. If they marked it wrong when it was clearly right multiple times then they could get in trouble for that. And there's nothing wrong with saying "ppl." That is just a quicker way to type it.
Oh and just to add this in to PEOPLE (lol) who are questioning my grades I have also never had a detention in my life.

Well, you're obviously naturally gifted.

I guess the Rand Corporation will be in touch with you soon...

You don't need a cell phone to learn, which is what you're supposed to be doing.
You obviously have no idea what you're talking about.

Phones can be brought to school for many reasons. Contacting parents when needed, texting, or especially in the iPhones case, educational reasons such as researching on Safari, using periodic table apps, dictionaries and translators, etc.

I bring mine to school and it's an incredible aid, I text on it and use it to call during the day (like every other student does, I don't see this is as bad or even abnormal) but above all I can complete my Chemistry homework incredibly quicker with the Chemistry apps helping me as they're a lot more helpful than our textbooks.

Really, you act as if it's strange to bring phones to school. It's not discouraged here, it may be the same there. Get off his rear.

I encourage technology in school. I think students should be given access to real world tools. Granted I understand the importance of "learning to do things the long way" but in the end learning the subject at hand is the important part and if an iPhone app can do it better then a text book (which honestly isn't hard to do since most text books do not like to teach in a down to earth manner) then let the students use apps, or computer programs, etc.

I used to get so angry with my high school because when computers were beginning to get really popular we had no programming or computer science classes, but we had farming (!?) classes?

I'm in my third college and I use iPhone apps to brush up on things I haven't studied or dealt with in a long time as well as computer programs to teach me various math and physics concepts that the text book presents, but never explains.

EDIT: I saw one of the above posts talking about chemistry. If I was a chem teacher I would LOVE if I was able to present each student in the class with an iPod touch full of chemistry apps for extra help on the subject. It would provide an interactive way of learning digitally since obviously the student cannot take the lab home with them. It's also more effective then reading from a boring text book.

Aaaaaaanyways...:D It doesn't matter if the OP is at school, work, or in a bar with friends.
Point is, that I'm also very wary of letting reckless friends handle my iPhone, as I know that simply because it isn't yours, you're naturally less inclined to be protective, and may handle things differently. Many of my friends have dropped my 3G when I first got it a little under a year ago, fortunately, it was indoors, and onto a carpet, but still.

Thankfully, this scenario has become less of an issue, as the iPhone becomes more and more ubiquitous.

I might have got another higher grade with this...
