Bad news!

My new iMac arrived 2 weeks ago and last week it started crashing whenever Time Machine ran. 2 calls to Apple support seemed to have fixed it but to my horror, this morning it has crashed again and no longer recognises the startup disk. I think a faulty SSD has been the problem all along.

Luckily it's all backed up and actually booted up in Carbon Copy Cloner backup this morning.

It's 2 weeks today since I received it and I am going to press them for a new machine. I hope that they will do this under the two week return policy. The annoying thing is that I expect I will have to go down to the bottom of the delivery list again and Christmas will complicate things :(

I know this is a little off topic but thought it was relevant.

Ordered Nov 21. Paid: Nov 26
Dispatched: Dec 9th
Preliminary delivery: Dec 16th
Sweden

I've now gotten an e-mail from Apple about the order being delayed. Talked to UPS, one of their planes had been delayed. The new date for receiving the order is tomorrow.
Update: delivered today.

Interesting. Do you live in the UK?

I reside in UK and I ordered on 9th December. Today the pre-auth has appeared and I have been quoted 5-7 days from the beginning... If they're sticking to that window mine could be dispatched as early as tomorrow!

Yeah I'm in the UK (thankfully - if the Scottish independence vote gone the other way I'd have had to say no... )

Yeah the dispatch estimate was 2-3 weeks when I ordered but it came down to 1-2 weeks the day after I ordered (IIRC) and then to 5-7 days a week or so later. My reading of this is that they were constrained on parts availability (maybe the LCD or some of the other Retina iMac only parts such as the timing controller) and those becoming available have allowed the order backlog to be reduced. Alternatively maybe they have scaled up the production operation.

My shipment is now in Arnem in the Netherlands so I think one more flight should see it enter the UK. Delivery estimate is still 22nd (Apple) or 23rd (TNT) which should be achievable now it's in Europe, as long as it doesn't get stolen or lost or something... :(

Not sure why my riMac is stuck in Louisville for over 24 hours. Where is the departure scan?

Still expecting to receive it tomorrow.

Update: Received my riMac today at 1:17 p.m. (11/22 Order Date - i7, 295x, 512ssd, 8gb)

Will you get any special treatment? I.e., skipping the 5-7 day config time?

The guy I spoke to at Apple who arranged the exchange said it would be expedited as a special order but the website says 5-7 days with delivery Dec 30th - Jan 2nd.

My order has been sat 'Preparing for Dispatch' for the last two days...

What have you others experienced?

It should be shipped very soon, the problem is ups, took ages, mine was shipped the 9th and supposed to be here today but I'm sure that the day will be Thursday or Friday

Yeah mine was in this state for a few days, perhaps 4 days in total before it actually shipped. That was over the weekend which may have been a factor.

Ordered 2 on Dec. 5th from Adorama, still on backorder....

Apple 27" iMac with Retina 5K Display, 5120x2880, Intel Core i7 Quad-Core 4.0GHz, 16GB RAM, 1TB Fusion Drive, AMD Radeon M295X, Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite (Late 2014)

Whats the draw of ordering it via Adorama vs. Apple?

I ordered the same config except 8 gig from Apple on Monday Dec 8th. It arrived this morning in Louisville and is expected to be delivered to me (in California) by Friday.

Mine got dispatched yesterday... Estimated deliver is 24th December.

I won't be at home - i'm visiting family :roll eyes:

I phoned Apple to change the delivery address to the family I am visiting and they told me it would 'probably' adversely affect that delivery date.

I'm never getting this machine.

My replacement is still processing. I spoke to Apple just now who assured me that it was on a fast-track expedited priority and I will receive it sooner than they say on the website.

For anyone else who is exchanging, I also enquired about billing because the way all the invoicing reads they will be charging me again for the replacement and refunding the returned one when they get it back - but not until 7 working days later.

By that reckoning I will have two charged to my card for several days.

However the nice Apple lady I spoke to assured me that this would not happen.

We shall see!

Hi all,

I ordered on Nov 29th: i7, 8GB, 3TB, M295X
Destination: Munich, Germany.

Status to processing: Dec 6, first delivery estimate: Dec 19 - Dec 30
Status to dispatched: Dec 15
Status to "In Transit to Customer- Shipment on Schedule": Dec 18, new estimated delivery Dec 29.
Status to "Preparing for final carrier" early on Dec 22, later they added Schenker as carrier, but their tracking didn't turn up anything by reference.

UPS tracking by reference started working late afternoon on Dec 22.
It left Prague on Dec 22, passed through Nürnberg in the night and will be delivered today, Dec 23.

Buying one of these things is an adventure in itself.

My replacement iMac is now dispatched so they have expedited it. It's taken 2 days from order to dispatch so if it takes the same 6 days with UPS that my original one did it should be here by Wednesday. However Christmas may upset that.

That's interesting, my replacement iMac is coming from Ireland.

Probably just as well as I'm just watching the end of a Panorama programme about how bad conditions are for Apple employees in China :-(

Ordered: Dec 15 18:00 PST
Destination: Los Angeles, California

- i7, 8GB, 512GB SSD, M295X
- Standard (expedited option not available when ordering)

initial stated timeframe when ordering:
- Time to ship: 1-3 business days
- Delivery: Dec 18-20

Order status changed from "PROCESSING ITEMS" to "PREPARING FOR SHIPMENT" early this morning (05:00 PST) and got an email stating that there was an unexpected delay.

revised timeframe:
- Time to ship: 2-4 business days
- Delivery: Dec 26-30

Called rep asking on issue of delay. Mentioned that I ordered from website because stated timeframes would be in line with me getting product before xmas. Was told that 27" iMacs are in huge demand but was told she could not give me any further info at the time, since items were in the "preparing for shipment" phase.

Rep said that once I get tracking info, she could give me a better idea on when it'll actually arrives. Apparently when items go into the "prepare for shipment" phase, they typically get sent out within 24 hours, so there's a chance that i'll get my item before the revised delivery date (Dec 26-30) but i'm not holding my breath...
