i check every time i touch the computer, ha. so thats probably 10 times a day. are you positive you saw it for sale, and not the protection plan? man oh man... a 12" wish a superdrive for $1300 is exactly what im looking for.
Yes, I saw that PowerBook listed, too, not just the APP...
I'm planning a 2 week trip to the U.S. soon. Wonder if I can order a refurb iBook and have it shipped to my hotel...

Yes, I know the difference between the computer and the protection plan, and I saw it Saturday and thought about you, so that's why I posted it. It was $1299 and not $1295, though. Do you know how to set your browser to monitor changes on webpages in the background and alert you?

tomorrow will be one year since the eMac was updated. i would like to buy one, but i'd hate to buy a one-year-old computer at full price. i'm glad that this forum decided that apple will update this friday. i'm looking forward to it, Apple. (i'm hoping the power of suggestion is going to work on this one)

With NAB coming Apr 16-21, there is a good chance that we will see some of these updates. The iMac, eMac, and iBook are certainly due. I have my eye more on the iMac. It's great that we can speculate here.

I'm ready to order an iMac G5 20" - but now it looks like its time to sit and wait a while longer - I hope they also refresh the iMac SOON!

Sigh...

will they update the powerbooks with tiger this month?
or will the powerbooks still have panther?
and the ibooks that they are updating, those will come with tiger standard?

essentialy, when a new operating system comes out... do all of the systems they sell use that system? i want to but a powerbook and im willing to buy a new one if it has tiger on it, then a refurbished one with panther on it.

You should only be concerned about models released before the Mac OS version in question. Any Mac model updated after April 29th, when Tiger is released, will at least have Tiger pre-installed on it. Current models may or may not have Tiger. Often, Apple will drop the new OS (Tiger, in this case) in the box with your new Mac, again assuming you purchase it no earlier than Tiger's release.

Tiger to unlease April 29th

Well, maybe big announcements this Friday, but maybe not. I checked the Apple Store today and they are taking advance orders for Tiger with a delivery date of April 29th. Great. C'mon new eMacs! :D

Bookmark the page you want to monitor, then configure the bookmark (options or properties or whatever it's called in Windows) to check on the link with a frequency you specify and with a method of alerting you, such as beeping or loading the page. I'm assuming you are using Netscape or Firefox or something civilized.

Now there must come updates...C'mon Tiger is comming now we need HW..iMac's, iBook's are comming but eMac's and mac mini  well who knows :p

I'm beginning to think that the iMac update will be announced at WWDC... I'm in the middle of selling my iMac 1.6ghz, and was hoping for an announcement this month, but with Tigers release, as so many have stated, it will be highly doubtful that there will be any major hardware updates.

Now we have the rumour of the PM update at NAB from 16-21st. Which almost definately exludes any iMac update this month. With WWDC in June, surely Steve will be leaving some goodies to be announced then? Not that I could realistically wait until June

After all the waiting over the last PB updates, you'd think I would be use to playing the waiting game! If nothing is apparant by the start of May, I'll be getting the fully loaded 1.8ghz 17"...unless the gpu is going to be upgraded......... AARRRRGGGGHHHH! Its a very vicious cycle!

the waiting game...

The waiting game is a vicious cycle indeed. I'm on the verge of getting an iBook, but had been waiting for Tiger to be announced so I could get it pre-installed. Now I'm torn on what to do.

I read over at the Appleinsider forums, that if you order an iBook now, it would come with Panther, iLife ;05, and for 10$ you can get the Tiger upgrade...not a bad deal. But that if you wait until Tiger does come pre-installed, you will miss out on the iLife deal.

However, if the iBooks are as close to an update as is commonly thought, I'd be sick if I buy one only to have it be updated with either more memory or a better GPU a few weeks later, as the GPU is often the biggest complaint about the machine.

So I've decided to wait until at least May 1st, to see what happens. I would definitly be bummed though, to miss out on getting iLife '05 for free. I have iLife '04, but plan to get the 12", and without the superdrive, I will need '05 to use my external DVD burner to make DVDs.

All that said, one of the current iBooks would certianly suit my needs just fine(graphic design, some print and web/flash design, some movie making with iMovie and a few games tossed in) as I'm currently using a BWG3 as my current desktop, the 1.2 G4 would be a giant leap in performance.

But right now, the waiting game has me handcuffed, at least for 2 more weeks. These decisions are always so complicated.

Boy...join the party :(

I am ready to One Click a new iMac as soon as Rev B models are announced with Tiger installed and trying to figure out a time frame is impossible. I don't want to wait until June or later but have resigned myself to wait as long as it takes to get the Rev B model in 20". As a switcher it is difficult to understand the ways of Apple in regard to new releases. In the PC world Intel and any other manufacturer were pre-advertising the new stuff months ahead of release. But I am an Apple user now and must bow to the skills of Steve Jobs to guide us... :)

I really am hoping for a NAB announcement for the iMac or May or June....
Oh well...at least I got to order Tiger for my PB 17.

You can burn to disk image and external DVD burners with iDVD 4. The easy way is to get Patchburn.

Mac Mini? Are you serious? We won't see a h/w upgrade for the mac minis till christmas (if then). Of course, tiger will be a new addition, but the current h/w mock-up of the mini can run tiger fine. (So they calim)

PB HD 14" - that's what I wish for.

Steve has a real passion for secrecy. He likes to keep us guessing. Apple also doesn't like to have releases known ahead of time, so that it won't hurt sales. All the while they are aware of what is being said on the forums.

Well guys, first of all I am an absolute novice when it comes to Macs (though I use a PC everyday). Ive been reading this forum for months and I just wanted to thank you all for your very useful insight into the apple range especially the Emac. As a novice I have decided that the emac will have all that capabilities that I need at fast speed. You mac heads have definitely sold me on that one with a lot of your positive comments regarding the system. The only thing is I’ve been waiting since November last year for this damn rumoured update to occur. Cmon Apple! Happy 1st Birthday to the last version of the Emac blah blah blah but bring on the new baby already! Ive waited this long so I sure as hell aint buying one tomorrow and will now wait however much longer it will take!! Or at the very least it would be much appreciated if someone could just say for sure when the Emac is going to be updated (or maybe Apple can issue a statement? Does this ever happen?) so I can get on with my life and perhaps maybe get through a whole day without having to check the forum and apple store for any updates…..you teasers!

Well ryan77, I reckon you should just lash out and grab one already. You'll be very pleasantly surprised at how good OSX is (and you'll probably get a free upgrade to Tiger or something). I can't imagine the changes will be that great for the eMac and even if they are, it sounds like you shouldn't really mind all that much. Most people won't really notice a small processor/GPU/base RAM upgrade. Sure, it's nice having the latest and greatest from Apple, but if you're running on Windows ATM, I recommend switching ASAP. You'll love it! On the other hand, generally I love things more if I have to wait for them longer...

New iMac Specs

Could not be happier if these rumors are true...just put my One Click on alert and at the ready for a new iMac 20". Open the store Apple :D

I would certainly recommend waiting for the update. Think Secret has been reliable in the past. Having Tiger pre-installed would be an advantage.

Why is having Tiger pre-installed an advantage? If I purchased now, I would have Panther as a fall-back if Tiger is buggy.
