no WAY!!! that's soooooo far from now... :(

but thanks for the guess.
There's nothing to stop you from installing a superdrive in a 12" iBook today, except of course about $200 or so (depending on where you buy the drive and if you can install it).

i've got a friend that's considering a switch soon... the only thing that is holding him back is the 32mb of vid ram so he can set up an extended desktop... do you think that that will be in the new updates?

ATTN APPLE: It would be really nice for you to bump up that vid ram so you can run second extended desktop... i love it on my PB

My handle is new while I am old. In other words, I lost my old account.

Just curious, Is april when these updates are going to be confirmed by april or when apple will start shipping?

Sorry if I come of as a unaware of the current apple news, I just spent a trimester in France. I have been sort of detached from the apple culture. Any quick response would be recieved well.

Unfortunately, nobody knows really. Nearly everything is in need of an update according to the buyers guide - most of it well overdue too.

At a guess:

iMacs refreshed around or at the same time as Tiger is released. According to some April 15th. Possibly iBooks aswell around this time.

Powermacs at WWDC.

my friends ibook has shipped, if one comes out in the next 30 days he'll return it and get a new one (no restocking fee in the uk).

I have an ibook G4 1.2ghz with 512mb ram and an Imac G3 450ghz with 198 mb ???....I use the imac to browse the web and it works fine with Panther and I use the ibook as my main computer eg: watch DVD's that I bought in Australia on it etc etc.....

But I'm starting to get into making animations again (after a 10 year break) so I want something to replace the Imac G3...The Imac G5 will do fine but I also want it to have a better graphics card (so I can play KOTOR)

April 15th would be awesome, essentially already have saved that date for the release party.

If true about the Power Mac, could mean that we are looking at a major update. Dual Core would certainly seem to be one of those.

I'd like to see dual-core across the line for all product models. single cores are so passe.

Let's indeed say the update the imac/emac/ibook on April 15. Thats neat and all but when can I get my hands on one? I am in dire need of a computer for english.

Somewhat greedy.

but what then?

Is it not unlikely that they would upgrade iMac eMac and iBook all soon together? What will that give them to do for the rest of the year?!

Next eMac?

Hi. New to this forum and glad to see so much interest in new hardware. Just received a refurb iMac 1.6 Superdrive, returned DOA. Seemed to overheat, so not a good thing.

Waiting now for an eMac update and hoping it happens sooner rather than later. Not interested in another iMac; once bit is enough for me. In my many days with Apple (over 20 years since the first one), I've never had a bad one until now and take that as an indication that my current eMac will suffice until replaced by a newer model.

Come on Apple eMac; your educator market awaits you! I vote for any version with a G5.

Strange that you would choose an eMac over an iMac just because of a problem on the first model. Why not wait for the rev B iMac?

Cmon 15th April

eMac is for Educators!

Hi. Thanks for posting. Why eMac rather than iMac?

Well, first I'd like to have a G5, so I think I'll wait a bit and see whether the rumors about an upgrade using lower end G5's are true. If they are, I have lots of desktop space and don't need the LCD. Besides, I have 10 grandkids that knock things around a bit.

From my perspective, I've never had poor luck until this machine. I tried to use the setup transfer wizard and discovered I had made a big mistake using FileVault. It took me about six hours to coax it into decrypting 10 years worth of files. Then during the transfer, the new iMac shut down from what appeared to be a power supply problem. Whatever caused it seemed to be heat related and repeated itself at about a one hour interval. However, by then I had already cleaned up the old eMac in anticipation of giving it to my wife, who teaches fourth grade and is using my VERY old 500Mhz iMac. When I tried to restore files, I found that my backup system could not be accessed because (I think) my preferences had changed and I no longer had access to encrypted material.

Suffice to say I got bit and am a little gunshy. Besides, if the rumors here are right at all, we may see a low end G5 update for eMacs soon. If that happens, I'll also be able to get Tiger, and that would suit me fine.

Thanks again for the response. :)

Err why would we want to know about AMD Procs in a Forum on updated iMacs, eMacs and iBooks?

Accepted wisdom seems to be that the iBook update will be tiny, maybe just 512 RAM as standard and possibly an increased video card. Not much extra. Therefore there is no great need for it to have its own release, so they might as well do it at the same time as Tiger/new iMacs are announced.

They have them up again today.

are you sure? they have the protection plan up, but nothing more. they have ibooks, but no power books. i've been checking for days!

...and to anyone else... is there anyway a powerbook update will happen soon? or should i just goahead and get my 12inch power book now?

I've been checking as well, because I'm looking at changes in ship dates. They did have it up when I reported it, though it's gone again. It was a superdrive 12" Powerbook model for $1295. Check more often, the inventory changes fast.
