iMac G5 Now Shipping

apple says On or before 10/18/2004 spoke to girl, she actually called me back to tell me that it won't ship until the 10th of october! eek indeed, i say.

i rarely buy a new computer, but waiting almost two months seems downright silly.

20" iMac with BT Shipped!

Apple Store is saying that my 20" iMac with BT has shipped to the UK. Not sure where it is at the moment, just that it is with TNT.

When did you order your iMac? I thought I was fairly high on the list, ordering at 6AM on the 31st, but you guys in the UK had an 8 hour head start on me . . .

My original shipping date was 28/9. I am checking my order status online at the Apple Store. It has a tracking number allocated with TNT but no further information at present.

That gives me hope then, as my shipping date was the same. Still no change on the site yet. I had persuaded myself that I wasn't going to keep checking the site, but at least now I can get about 4 mins work done between each check.

I ordered on 31st August at 10:57am - as soon as the UK store was back on-line.

I ordered a 20" iMac with BT, AirPort, and 512Mb on 31st August at 10:58 from the UK Apple Store. My order is still open and says shipping on or before 28/9.

Hey lets hope the BTs are finally starting to ship (in order of orders received), otherwise there could be a repeat of the G5 dual 2.5ghz fiasco.

Its the same order from the same place as mine, but I had to wait until the evening to place mine, so I should expect to receive it about 10hrs after you

The problem with you waiting 10 hours is that us Yanks got a chance to wake up and put our order in ahead of you - if we were quick. I won't moan too much that my ship date is still a day behind you as UK resident tend to get the short end of the stick from time to time. (As long as it's ONLY a day . . .)

Now that the 20" BT is finally shipping I have a feeling that things will go faster for all of us that have been waiting in agony while the others are playing with their new joy. While we will probably beat the shipment date I think it will only be by a week for the early ones. Those with a delivery date of the second week in October might fare better.

In terms of delivery into the UK, Apple is paying for air freight so it might go faster. Those that paid for 2nd day delivery will probably get the first ones off the line, but the only thing that might delay delivery on the air shipments would be customs. Hopefully Apple has the same relationship with UK customs as they do with US customs, having the shipment cleared while the plane is in the air.

Darn it! I ordered the same except for 250 GB drive and no edu on 8 Sept and haven't heard a peep from them yet. Phooey!!

Anyway, Ramjet may not have the cheapest prices, but they are reputable, have lifetime warranty, and great customer service (I ordered from them, then found the Apple Hot Deal page that was $25 cheaper so I emailed them and they fixed it right away). Get the hot deals here.

I ordred TWO WEEKS before you exactly the same order except that I did not get FCE, mine has not shipped yet!!!!! What gives, this is really starting to tick me off. I pay 2 grand for a computer early on after it's announced, and people that order TWO WEEKS later get theirs before me.

P.S. I'm glad your getting yours, I'm just starting to get frustrated...

Yeah, I still haven't heard yet either. I did, however, get a 250 GB HD with mine (20"/BT). I ordered at 7PM (I think) EDT on 09/01. Gosh, I'm hoping to get word from Apple soon!

Sorry I was venting, I just checked Apple now and found out that it is SHIPPED, I guess I was expecting the site to be updated over night and I had already checked this morning with no change. So, new iMac here we come!!!!!! Estimated arrival is on the 24th!!!! Ohhhh, I can't wait!!!!!

Good for you - mine sadly is still not shipped. But now I have some encouragement to keeping checking throughout the day. I thought shipping status was only updated nightly. Now I can return to complete lack of productivity mode checking order statuses all day

It's the "Year of Anticipation" at Apple

2003 was the "Year of the Notebook".

2004 has turned out to be the "Year of Anticipation".

The whole year! Especially if you define "anticipation" as "waiting for with great eagerness and frustration".

Waiting in January for the 970FX.

Waiting for iPod minis to ship.

Waiting for PMs with 30" displays - actually still waiting . . .

Waiting for the G5 iMac to be announced . . .

Then waiting for the months (since the June news of a delay) for Paris.

Now waiting for our 20" BT iMacs to be shipped.

Then the wait for it to be delivered.

There were other products that generated a lot of anticipation (xServes) and I guess the list would go on . . .

Frustrating? Sure to some degree. I see it as a small company trying to move a very large mountain. Takes longer than expected, but in the end the results are glorious.

When my 20" BT finally arrives all I'll be waiting for in great anticipation is Tiger.

What is the order of events. Does Apple send an email notifying us of the shipment? Or will it show up on the Order Status page first? Or is the credit card the first thing to show activity? I'm dying to just find out when my iMac will be shipped, nevermind actually having it!

On top of that, I ordered 512 RAM, will that be one stick, or are they going to put 2x256 in there?
