20" w/o BT w/ 1GB RAM (2 slots) ordered 9/9, shipped

Strictly for informational purposes, i'm not gloating (Not until mine leaves Subic Bay at least). How long are they typically taking to be delivered from ship date (to say, the Northeastern US)? [I've searched most of the 24 pages of this thread..sorry if missed someone else posting this info.]

20" with BT shipping - with BT keyboard?

For those of you who have a 20" BTO with BT shipping or shipped, did you also order the BT wireless keyboard and mouse? I'm wondering if that's what's holding mine up?

Also, did you guys have any problem with the ram upgrades - the 512MB to 1GB mix up?

Well neither an email nor an updated order status page, but I did call my bank to make sure their would be no problems once the charge was put through and was informed that the charge had already gone through.

Just to let you know I ordered on 8/31 at about 11:00 PM CST the following

20" with 512, AE, and BT (those were my only upgrades)

My original ship on or before date was and still is 10/01/2004.

I am hoping something will change soon, but it may be tomorrow before anything happens as it is now a little after 4 AM in Shanghai.

I hate to burst your bubble, but I did the same thing early last week and they said that my card had been charged. My computer just shipped today. So, someone told me that maybe they Apple is doing some sort of charge to make sure the funds are there.

Here is hoping that you get a shipping notice soon!

No problem, or even a bubble burst. I am just happy there is somethign happeneing with the order, even if that means I am a week behind you.

So was your card actually charged last week then the imac was shipped this week? just making sure I understand your post.

No one has really answered the chain of events for this process.

And here's to you reaceiving yours this week!

got mine

finally got my 20" this morning.
A few things to note: I am disappointed in the LCD quality. It seems very pixelly to me. Not up to the standards of the old apple cinema displays I use at school. Much closer to and perhaps worse than a gateway lcd I'm typing on from the library. Perhaps I'll get accustomed to it but it bothers me right now. This seems to be one way they're saving money. I recommend going to an apple store and seeing for yourself before you buy. I do some graphics and video work and I know this is going to bug me. Also, the brightest setting seems kind of dim. Third and final complaint: the speakers suck. They don't compare to eMac skeakers in volume or quality. (Probably because they're bouncing off the desk. One more: white space underneath screen is a bit shiny (distracting). They should have put some kick a** speakers here and made it charcoal gray.
On the bright side: I threw in a dvd and it looked great (sounded bad). Haven't had a chance to run any serious programs yet.
I still like it... I'm just not sure I love it.

I think that Apple is putting a funds reserve on the card before entering it into the production line. Much like a hotel or are rental company will reserve the estimated costs, plus some to spare, when you check in or rent a car. The actual charge will be when you check out of the hotel, take back the car or, in Apple's case, probably when the iMac is ready to chip and an invoice is raised. Apple has set aside a chunk of my available credit so I must be getting close!

Can anyone else comment on LCD quality? I thought the general consensus was that these LCDs were the same ones used in the old cinema displays with the platic case. The screens certainly couldn't be worse than the old 20" iMac G4s, and people were pretty happy with those screens, right?

Let me get this straight... Please, if anyone has a better handle on the order of events... clue me in.

At first it seemed that stock machines were available and the BTO's were delayed. Then BTO's were being delivered but no BT.
Now BT is being shipped but only to Educational buyers?
This is where the trail has ended... I really need to get a life.

8/31/04 - 7:13 AM PST - No EMail, No charges on the AMX.

FedEx in Subic

For those that have iMac visiting Subic Bay i nthe Philippines. In between refreshes on the order status page, I check it out and FedEx's Asian gateway is located at the previous Subic Bay Naval Base once inhabited by the US. (Many of us that were in the Navy, like myself, have probably been there)

My guess is that the different routes merely have to do with how things were sorted in Shanghai. Some will go straight to Anchorage when the load allows and then other times they will go to Subic to be married up with other smaller shippments before the long leg over the Pacific.

Education Store Buyer

I guess I should have put that I did buy through the Education Store.

Besides not working being back at school has a few other bonuses too, like cheap (er) computer software and hardware. :D

Still no updates, I'm about ready to give up for today.

While we're all sitting here not having our iMacs delivered, I wonder if anyone else feels the same way I do about the Apple Store online.

The ordering experience is pretty painless, but I don't understand why the Order Status feature is so incredibly lame. I order computers from Dell for my office all the time and they have a wonderful multi-phase order status page that shows your computer going from order, to pre-production, to build and burn in, kitting and shipment. If anything it just keeps status obsessors like me at bay since I feel like some progress is being made.

The either shipped or not shipped functionality of the Apple Order Status just seems so low-tech.

Anyone else with me on this?

That follows the pattern. Makes sense that Apple would prioritize the Educational orders. They took a pretty good PR hit when they ran out of the old IMacs right before school started back up.

Cool.

Nice to hear that people are finally starting to get their 20" models and in numbers too. It's too bad about the delay concerning the BTO models but it sounds like those aren't going to be too far behind. I've convinced myself I can wait one more cycle before replacing the trusty G3. Though, as more people start using their machines...

You aren't going to be able to wait . . .

You'll see a G5 iMac, you'll get a woodie and order one. :D

There will be a star in the east . . .

Holy crap but that made me laugh! I so needed that right now. Thanks so much, kenaustus! :D

sbarr13, it's anyone's guess. Some people got an email first, some people saw the status on the Apple site change, and some people saw bank/credit card activity. I don't care if they tell me by smoke signals, I just want it to ship. :)

Yep, might as well chime in with another UK order status...

Selected a Build To Order 20-inch iMac on September 3rd, and have an estimated ship date of October 1st on my order status page.

Yeah, and then those Cialis spam emails will do you some good. After the long wait, you'll need help getting it up. :D

I completely agree. I'm getting rather exasperated that other people who ordered the same model (20" w/ BT, education order), but ordered it later than I did, are already getting theirs shipped. I'd love to know where in the process mine is.

One More BTO BT Ed Store waiting to ship

First post here. I ordered a 17" iMac/250GB/BT (w/BT KB & mouse)/512 (single stick) RAM from the Apple Store for Education on August 31 (isn't this easier than 8/31 or 31/8 ?) at 7:37 am PDT. I, like nearly everyone else, have a September 29 ship date...

Here was my whole order:

08/31/2004
07:37 AM PST

W925xxxx

•*IMG5 17/1.8/512MB/250GB/SD/BT/WL KBD/MSL
•*ISIGHT-USA (x 2)
•*PBG4 15/1.33/512/80G/COMBO/AP/BT/LL
•*APPLE PORTABLE POWER ADAPTER 65W-USA
•*AIRPORT EXPRESS BASE STATION-USA
•*IPOD MINI 4GB BLUE-USA
•*IPOD 40G W/CLICK WHEEL PERSONALIZED-USA
•*IPOD CARRYING CASE-GEN

I received everything within three working days except for the mini iPod and the iMac. I was shocked how quickly the Powerbook arrived (and just how much better it is than my 3 year old--but still quite capable--12" iBook 500).

The mini iPod was also due to ship on Sept. 29 but it shipped on September 10th and I (or rather, my wife!) got it last Thursday (9/16).

As of 4:45 PDT today I have NOT been billed on my credit card (AMEX) for ANY of the items  (nor will I pay anything until I get that iMac!!), some of which I've had in my possession since September 2nd.

I can barely wait to replace the 500 MHz G3 iMac but it has been made more tolerable by the newness of the other toys and because surfing the web wireless on my PB is so much faster than on the iMac.

On a long-winded side note--I am wildly enthusiastic about the Airport Extreme setup. I have my PB in my classroom and I can surf, iTune (is this a verb now??) and even print wirelessly. Even better: my students (mostly 9th graders) think my PowerBook is the best lap top they have ever used (especially when the KB lights up) and wireless iTunes is the coolest feature they have ever seen. Then they use iChat AV and are completely blown away by it. And they unanimously agree they would buy an iPod if they had the $$. As a HS teacher (and technology mentor) I am doing my best to bring the Apple message to the youngsters (and adults) of today, as I have since converting from the dark side in 1988 (to an Apple IIGS). I really think Apple is hitting the nail on the head with the iPod, iChat, iTunes, iMovie and the whole iFill-in-the-Blank concept: today's teenagers are much more aware of Apple --and more open-minded towards Apple computers--than they were in the mid-90's. Maybe, just maybe, Apple will see a noticeable rise in their market share and not by tenths either...

Our new iMac will be here soon. And in dealers stores like CompUSA. It shouldn't be long before ads hit the airwaves. Then even more people will take notice of the crap that the Wintel world dumps on the consumers. Time to buy more Apple stock. (Oh wait, I just spent 5 large on all the other Apple "stock" :D )

I feel like a kid on Xmas eve. I need to buy more RAM and a wall mount adapter!

Crash

Ordered BT/1GB/AE/250GB EDU

Another 20" BT order...

I ordered 20" BT with Airport Extreme, 1GB RAM (2 sticks), 250GB HD, Wireless KB/Mouse educational via phone operator. I placed order 9/15 with expected date 10/15. So, it appears 30 days from order is norm for orders after 1st week in Sept.

One thing to note...when you order internal BT, wireless keyboard and mouse, you don't get a wired keyboard and mouse. Plus, you lose the 2 extra USB ports on the keyboard. That's OK...I have enjoyed the wireless kb/mouse on my old 17" G4 iMac. I plug in a USB hub if I need additional ports.

Also, when you add memory, always good or better to add sticks in pairs from the same vendor and the two sticks are identical in specs. If you follow this pattern, you will have the best performance (although I can't say how much or how noticeable).

Like many others, I wish Apple would make a two-button mouse with a scroll wheel...

Just my 2 cents...
