Every time i have called the UK Apple store I have found them to be more than useless so I feel your pain! However I noticed you ordered EyeTV - I started another thread about anyone having any experience with that but no one replied. Have you used it before - I was thinking of getting it for my new iMac?

No mate sorry I'm just taking the risk

One thing to note...when you order internal BT, wireless keyboard and mouse, you don't get a wired keyboard and mouse. Plus, you lose the 2 extra USB ports on the keyboard. That's OK...I have enjoyed the wireless kb/mouse on my old 17" G4 iMac. I plug in a USB hub if I need additional ports.

In this
thread someone mentioned talking to an Apple person and verifying that a wired keyboard and mouse is also delivered with the computer along with the BT ones. :)

I've bought an EyeTV 400 around the same time as my PMG51.8DP this summer. Excellent little gadget. Decent editor, minimal CPU utilisation when recording "silently", and the most recent software update (1.6) has a good set of functions for exporting video to disc in different formats (avi, quicktime, mpeg4, DV, "for toast", etc). Seemed to run okay on my 12"PB1Ghz too.

The best thing about it is that it uses an external website (www.tvtv.co.uk in the UK) as the EPG, and regularly "polls" the site for the list of shows on it you have selected for recording. If I'm at work, and going to be home late, or out at a friend's place, I can log on to tvtv and add programmes to the G5's record list, and they're on disc for me when I get home.

I'd buy it again. :)

(And since their software _almost_ supports multiple EyeTV400/410s, I might indeed buy another one some time to be able to record two things at once).

The only problem is I now have a vast backlog of really interesting television to watch...

still waiting on my imac g5...

anybody received a shipping notice yet this morning? mine is still saying open and on or before the 30th of this month...

Got notice this morning that my 20" custom order has shipped! Bummer that it is coming from Asia though because it will take a business week to get here.

Not to get your hopes up, but depending on where you are (US?) you might see it in two to three days.

Placed my order on 9/16/04 for a 17" 1.8 w/BT 160gb, 512mb. Had a estimated date of 10/15/04. Decided I wanted to upgrade the RAM and HD myself so called apple on 9/19/04 and changed it to the base 17" 1.8 with only bluetooth which was then set to ship on 10/19/04.

Received a call today 9/21/04 from the credit card company to verify a payment for possible fraud. Apparently Apple has authorized my card for the full amount (*they did have 2 other $1 probe charges on the card from the 16th and 19th also).

Does this mean I can expect a shipment out within the next week? From what I can tell earlier in the thread after authorization it usually took a few days to a week to change the status to shipped. Thx.

i'm brand new to these forums. i've been lurking since placing my order on 9/5. i've found it incredibly comforting to know that there are others as obsessed about getting their new G5 imacs as i am, and i've appreciated (over)hearing all the discussions. hence, i just wanted to let others know that although i haven't gotten the golden email from apple, my credit card was charged this morning. and . . . i'm one of the BTO's (17"/1.8/1GB) who ordered BT.

it won't be long now!

I placed my order on 8/31 and got a call from my CC that same day asking about possible fraud. I told them I did the charge and they told me to call Apple and have them send in the request for authorization again. So I did and it got sent through fine but my ship date is still "on or before 9/29".

My credit card was authorized for a lot of money (over $2000) when I placed the order back on September 1st but since then it has gone away. I was charged for the printer and DVD-Rs I bought, but nothing else remains on my card. Is this normal? I thought that Apple would leave the auth on my CC until the final amount was charged.

Anyone have any ides?

I think I need to stop being so neurotic and just be patient for a change!

While I'm happy for you, I ordered a 20" BT on 8/31 and still says on or before 9/29 for shipping

Mine either. Did you get 250GB HDD? AX? FCX?

Since I'm in the same boat and would love to find out why, here is what I ordered. If anyone who ordered on 8/31 and hasn't received a shipping notice sees any similarities, please do chime in.

20"/BT/AX/160GB/1GB(512x2)/no BT keyboard or mouse. Still shows ship date of 9/29.

I ordered a BTO 20" BT about 6AM (CDT) on the 31st and still have a 9/29 ship date.

People in the UK and Europe had an 8 hour head start on us.

Now I'm trying to figure out if the 250 GB HD is also part of the delay.

When you look at the insides of the G5 iMac it really looks like it is designed for production in batches of the same product. As I have been told that they are going off the line faster than anticipated I have a feeling that this is the situation, leaving me and others to a batch run of 20" with BT and with a 250 HD.

It's worth the wait as I know I'll be happy with it when it arrives AND I still need time to figure out how I'll tell my wife I bought it . . . :D

No news as of this morning. No activity on the AMEX.

8/31/04 - 7:13 AM PST - EST Ship 9/29

Ordered 2 of them. 20",17" - 160 GB HD, 1 GB RAM, BT, Airport.

250gb hard drive part of the delay?

i think you may have a point here...part of my config was the upgrade to the larger drive on my 20" and i am still waiting shipping confirmation (on or before 9/30/04). how many others that still have no word on their custom config 20" included the upgraded hard drive?

I would be one...

I also chose the 250GB drive as well as 512MB ram, BT, AE, and FCE pre-installed.

Order status still says 9/30/04.

Fedex delivered my Airport Express yesterday. It sits waiting along with Apple Care and a ram upgrade from OWC.

Exact same order as stillwater. Status still 9/29.

Selected "wait until all available and ship together" - but Airport Express Base Station arrived from Taiwan yesterday and Apple care from Sacramento CA arrived last week.

I agree, the 250gb HD seems to be the cause of the holdup. I ordered a 17"/SD/AE/BT/250gb on 8/31 and I still have a shipping date of on or before 9/29. A friend of mine ordered a stock 1.6ghz model about a week and a half later and it was delivered yesterday.

Comments on the combo drive model: it's beautiful, the quality of the 17" screen is dramatically better than the one on my parents' iMac G4. It was a bit loud though, a sort of annoying mechanical whine when the fans got going under heavy processor load. I don't understand the woes about the "chin," it didn't strike me as particularly obtrusive. My friend was switching over from an ancient HP desktop that was on its last legs (with Windows 98). His reactions were what seem to be par for the course: "Where's the computer?," "it's so quiet" (even though I was thinking it was too loud) and "the screen is so bright." He got an iPod mini and is just delighted with it, and while taking a tour of the bundled software he discovered GarageBand and is probably out buying a keyboard to use with it as we speak.

It seems that for a fairly large population of people, raised with Windows and yet not terribly conversant with computing, the combination of virus problems and an itch to join the iPod crowd are making the iMac a very attractive switcher's machine.

It could also be the BT as well. There are a bunch of us who ordered with only the BT added and have yet to recieve any shipment news.

I have an eyeTV 400 and it works great with my power book, the Titan TV service however is lacking, often times it gets the programs wrong for my local cable system.

I recomend the eye TV it will go great with your new iMac.

I got 512MB upgrade, BT keyboard and mouse and .Mac subscription (which already arrived) - other than that, stock. Still no word on shipping - still says on or before 9/29
