For people that have already received their new iMacs, I've got a question about shipping times (U.S. orders only)...

For people who selected standard shipping, how may days did it take to get your iMac after it left Alaska? FedEx says estimated delivery is Friday morning, but I'm hoping for Wednesday. Is that not going to happen since I didn't go with express shipping?

I think its safe to say that Blue Tooth should have been included in the G5 iMac.

At volume i dont think the Blue Tooth chip could have cost more than $20 to include and apple would have created a massive market for their wireless Key Board and Mouse for iMac customers to purchase down the road.

As it stands now most customers will not order their iMac with BT and will probably want to purchase a wireless Keyboard and mouse but be turned off since they do not have BT included.

There would also be no need for BTO iMacs for customers that just want the BT option (me included).

I bought a iMac G5 at westworld on Saturday the 18th, but they have to order it in.

Here's my configuration:

iMac G5 20 inch, 1 Gig RAM, 250 Gigs hard drive space, no bluetooth.
iPod G4 40 gig
Printer
Harman Creature 2 Speakers
Firewire 4pin to 6pin
Final Cut Express

Westworld hasn't even told me if they've ordered it yet, but they have everything else. I'm just waiting for the iMac. My father doesn't want me to have anything else yet, because he wants it all as a 'package'. blah. any estimates on when i'll get it, to sooth my raging nerves please? i'm in Victoria, Canada, and i'm getting it from Westworld so it may be shipping from Vancouver or Toronto. I don't know.

by the way, part of the reason while my nerves are raging is the machine i'm stuck with until then.

you people living off of your 400mhz iMacs have it good.

Not that I have any first-hand info (I was actually wondering the exact same thing myself) but a number of pages back someone reported receiving his/her special package the day after FedEx showed it arriving in Alaska. . . I'm sure there are further variables including proximity of your state to Anchorage and even to your local FedEx distribution center, but hopefully this bodes well for the folks who've recently made it through Freeport!

exopuppy, the question is did those people use express or standard shipping? If my iMac arrived tomorrow I would die. My estimated ship date was October 12, and I was prepared to wait at least until October 1 before I became impatient, so this is all happening so fast for me. My mind hasn't really accepted that my new iMac is so close. :)

Can anyone else comment on LCD quality? I thought the general consensus was that these LCDs were the same ones used in the old cinema displays with the platic case. The screens certainly couldn't be worse than the old 20" iMac G4s, and people were pretty happy with those screens, right?

I think they're the same as the old iMacs- I wasn't happy with the quality of those either. I'd be surprised if they were the same as the old cinema displays. If that is the case, maybe I'm just being extra critical because I just plunked down two grand (I apologize). Let's put it this way, every graphic has a visible jaggy edge that I constantly notice.
I stand by the speaker assessment- they stink (too quiet).

AHHH!!!!

I hope there not the same lcd's as the old ones because i have an old imac g4 and im not to impressed with the screen quality...

Elan0204, seems to be standard shipping, sorry for not mentioning that earlier. Follow kcmac's posts in this thread to check if you want to draw your own conclusions (he says that's the shipping he chose, but believes he may have been automatically upgraded for ordering early - however I, and I assume you as well, have been watching a FedEx number for the past few days despite ordering standard shipping weeks later).

I totally feel the same excitement at the prospect of having my new iMac sometime this week. I ordered last Thursday with a ship date on or before October 15, and woke up the next morning to find that wonderful email from Apple that it was already on the way. I should be commended for not waking my whole hall with the jumping and the cheering. So really, I have nothing to be upset over no matter what - I'm getting the computer I've wanted since before it was announced within the next week, whereas I ordered it expecting to wait at least another month. And soon I'll be able to wipe this virus-riddled placeholder HP from my desk and get back to the Apple experience I know and love. . . you know, using the computer instead of being used by it. ;)

I could shoot iTunes

So I get home tonight from dinner and of course I immediately check - email - and YES! there is an email from Apple ( my prayers are answered ! ) but nooo its and email from iTunes announcing some new John Mayer cd.

Oh the pain! So instead of being excited I have no new news. :(

Oh yeah and now I am starting to wonder why people who ordered after many of us, including me, are being shipped thier iMacs and not those of us who ordered on the 31st???

no, those imacs aren't race horses... the pro machines have better components, you might be surprised at how much slower those imacs were, compared to a 400MHz desktop, or how close they are in speed to yours.

Order partially shipped

Well, my Airport Express and .Mac arrived today. Sadly, my iMac did not :(, although I requested shipping "only when all items are available". I was hoping that Apple was trying to time its delivery of the accessories to match the delivery of the iMac, but the iMac order is still "Open". Ordered @ 0640 PST Aug 31, but did have to fix order Sept 1 after Apple changed RAM configuration. Now, my AE, .Mac and extra RAM are all sitting waiting for the iMac to arrive (ordered the RAM thinking it would take a while to ship to Canada and clear customs, but it arrived the next day  ). BTW, to TheRat, I feel your pain, although I have souped up my beige desktop a wee bit...

Finally Broke Down....

Well, i had a BTO with BT built in...but the shipping [ordered 9/5/04] was still WEEKS from now...so i cancelled that order and went down and picked one up...same difference...little bluetooth module in the back...can.t even see it....i feel relieved!

and canada?

Hi all!!!

This thread is sooo cool:p

no really!

It's great to have a place to get some info and get hyped with fellow mac lovers hehe:)

I'm pretty anxious to get my iMac!!!

I ordered an 17" 1.8ghz STANDARD (i've click to middle computer, and I havent changed ANYHTHING) on september 8th.... still no email...

It's weird since I tought for sure a standard (what would they be called?? stock model?) model would get shipped early.... I've got a october 6th date...

I live in quebec, canada so I don't know if this can get things worse...?

I also chose standard shipping...damn!:p

Anyway... i'm all with you guys and I really hope we'll get ours soon!

For now, I'm stuck on a 12" iBook that sucks ass... I sold my eMac 700mhz on september 30!!!! I was gonna buy a latest eMac but BAM! one day later there's this cool iMac on the front page of the apple web site... YAY!!!:)

so I feel extremely lucky to have NOT bought a eMac and to get the chance to buy a iMac but damn... I wish I would have sold my eMac latter this month:p

anyway... i'll go to sleep now... it's 1h30am here.... it's not as if I could get an email from apple now anyway!

see ya tomorrow guys!!!

My First Message Board Post w/a Mac

Well, earlier this morning I got my first ever Mac. A 17" iMac 1.8 G5 w/Airport and 512MB Ram and 160 GB HDD (no BT).

I was one of the 430 stuck in Shanghi....I was reallly hurting then, but now I am loving it. The iPod is going full force now.

And I love the screen. Now I was working with a crappy 15" CRT at home, but I have a Dell 17 " LCD @ work and this is better. Not tons better, but definately better.

And the speakers are fine. They are not great. As I sit here I have them at full volume and they sound fine for listening to music while I browse the board, but I also have a loud PC next to me! This thing makes no noise. It really is silent. If you are going to watch movies though, then you will need better speakers.

Now all I have to do figure out this OS...but if it is as easy as configuring it for wireless internet and using an iPod and iTunes, then I am in good shape.

To all those still waiting, keep the faith. I did, and on my birthday (today) I got my wish!

Wahoo, Shipped!!!!

I just checked my status again, (Not expecting anything but always hopeful) and it had Shipped as the status.

The Shipment status service is not available at the moment though :( So I can't follow it's every move to my door.

Waiting in anticipation.

I checked out the new iMac 17"; happily it was seated just across from the old imac 20". There was a notable improvement in quality of the LCD - brighter, sharper, easier to read. It would be hard to believe they are using the same components, but then I was blined by the beauty of the G5...

blinded even..

Good News / Bad News

Bad News: Still waiting for October 1st.

Good News: A few rebate checks came in and some money from a side project and now I have enough to max out the ram in my iMac G5. I'm completely confident that the ram will make it to my house before the iMac does.

Side Notes:
  1. I think being patient (would you consider this patient?) will make me truly appreciate the iMac when it gets here.
  2. In a completely unscientific survey of my five classes on three separate occasions this year every single class wanted to hear the bad news first.

Thanks for letting me be a part of the support group :)

Every time i have called the UK Apple store I have found them to be more than useless so I feel your pain! However I noticed you ordered EyeTV - I started another thread about anyone having any experience with that but no one replied. Have you used it before - I was thinking of getting it for my new iMac?
