hey guys

i ordered mine on sept 5 and got it like friday last week. With 512MB RAM Superdrive 1.8 ghz. And now i jsut put my ipod mini order on Saturday and they shipped it on monday and it coming from Shanghai also. Damn China

Well good thing is that my iMac has no dead pixel on the screen.

i just got my new imac and just have quick questsion. I have an external speaker that is hooked up the the imac. When i turn on the computer, the chime sound doesn't transfer to the external speaker but it plays in the internal speaker. Is it supposed to do this on the new imac? Because the powermac doesn't do that. On the power mac that chime sound goes straight to the external speaker one. Just quick question for any one who has new imac.
thanks

I have an eyeTV 400 and it works great with my power book, the Titan TV service however is lacking, often times it gets the programs wrong for my local cable system.

I recommend the eye TV it will go great with your new iMac.

I also have had an interest in EyeTV. Does the 400 model work with a cable hookup. I contacted Elgato about the 500 model with is firewire capable, but it doesn't work with cable. It only works with an antenna, wouldn't like because less channel and poorer reception.

Is it a communist holiday?

Seems that no one has received notice today of shipment. Seems odd since we have a decently large group waiting and several people received notice yesterday.

I was just about ready to call Apple until I read the post where they screwed everything up and delayed shipping even more.

My friends that are coming to town this weekend from California will want to shoot me if I won't take them to Bourbon Street because I need to check email this weekend.

I don't own one yet..... But you may want to dig around in system preferences and see if there's a option to enable chime on external speakers. But that would be way to easy. Also someone else posted about this issue early on... not sure if there was any answer.

perhaps not in capitalist Shanghai :)

just to add to the madness - I ordered a 17" 1.6 with 160 HDD, 512 RAM and BT at 3:05 AM PST on 8/31. ship date has always been on or before 9/29. It's definitely the BT holding it up. oh well. thank god for my 15" Powerbook and my new silver Mini!

Why is China Damned for sending you something you purchased? 2-3 days even on 'standard' shipping and you'll have it...

BT KB and Mouse or just BT shipping???

For those who have a shipped imac with BT, did you order just the BT module, or BT with wireless keyboard and mouse? I'm wondering if a lack of inventory of the wireless keyboard and mouse is holding up our orders???

Good news from the UK

That is good news that someone got an update today, looks like you will be enjoying your new iMac soon, congrats!

Well, I guess I will now venture out into the world as it looks like another day will pass with no new news. At least with my bank account has had the funds withdrawn and the process should be started.

i ordered the following on Aug 31, at 8am Pacific:
IMG5 20/1.8/256MB/160GB/SD/APX/BT/WL KBL

Have received the airport extreme, airport express and the 2 gigs of ram. Those products are laughing at me as they sit at my desk and watch me refresh my order.

Apple has authorized my credit card but the funds have not been posted.

I think the hold up is the blue tooth and not the hard drive or the keyboards, because I read in another post someone was using the wireless keyboard with their new powerbook ordered the same day as his iMac, and the larger hard drives were in previous iMacs which have been delivered already.

I don't think there are any problems - My iMac will ship anyday. (i hope) :)

My educ order was for just the 20" BT & 250 HD - I was too much in a hurry to see the wireless keyboard and mouse deal! Could change it, but it would put the order back, and I already have both at home anyway for the PB.

I think that there have been some BTs shipped, probably in the 17", but there is obviously a backlog of orders with BT.

At least the new iMacs are flowing out the door. It would have been nice if they would have shipped initial customer orders first, but they also have a ton of reseller orders that they also have to throw into the mix. Keeps the resellers somewhat happy and generates a lot of public interest in the new design.

I hate to burst your bubble, but my order has been shipped and it included the BT with wireless keyboard and mouse. So, it seems that it's not being held up because of a lack of wireless stuff.

20"/256 ram/160 gig hd/Airport Extreme/BT keyboard and wireless mouse

Have not got my 20" iMac yet, but i already have my 2GB of ram ready to fit in. just been browsing the net and found a "300 GB Maxtor Diamondmax Plus 10 SATA 7200rpm UDMA150 16MB Cache" for £158.50, hmm verry tempting :D do you think this would be a faster drive than the standard 160GB drive ?

iMac G5 Now Shipping

I read a time test on Bare Feet about the new 300 GB/16MB drive. It compared very favorably to the 74 GB/10,000 rpm WD Raptor. Most of the speed and 4 times as large. I am considering it as well.

Frys.

The Frys store in Fountain Valley has no new iMacs on display and only 17" 1.6 ghz model left. I thought that there was a stack left, but those boxes were Apple displays. Different colors, but I thought that might help people distinguish between 17" and 20" models. The sales people were telling me that people have been "hounding" them for more 20" models.

An early victory for Apple?

Apple has already said that the 20" will be in short supply and I would anticipate that to last through the Christmas shopping period. I have a feeling that the fastest way to get one would be a BTO (without BT if you are in a hurry). I would be very surprised if resellers did not keep a waiting list for the 20".

The best thing about it is that it uses an external website (www.tvtv.co.uk in the UK) as the EPG, and regularly "polls" the site for the list of shows on it you have selected for recording. If I'm at work, and going to be home late, or out at a friend's place, I can log on to tvtv and add programmes to the G5's record list, and they're on disc for me when I get home.

Wow, thats a really cool feature - i'm even more tempted now. Thank you for your review.

Hi all!!!
I ordered an 17" 1.8ghz STANDARD (i've click to middle computer, and I havent changed ANYHTHING) on september 8th.... still no email...

It's weird since I tought for sure a standard (what would they be called?? stock model?) model would get shipped early.... I've got a october 6th date...

I live in quebec, canada so I don't know if this can get things worse...?

Yo man, I live in Quebec as well - ordered mine (middle 17'' 1.8ghz with 512RAM) around the same time you did. However, I did not go through the Apple Store, but through an authorised reseller, who told me that based on the news he had got from Apple, I could expect mine around the end of September. I'd say we're getting pretty close to the end of September.

My palms are sweaty in anticipation. So are my feet. Everyone avoids contact with me.

Pop!

Well then there was none.

None as in no activity on my order. I was online banking again today paying some bills and poof 2300 $ back in my account. I guess it was just a test charge after all.

Bubble burst. :(

So I am back to square one. I broke down and called Apple today, asked why they charge was reversed and if there was a problem with the order. I was told by Jose (seriously that was his name) that there were no problems with my order and that is still scheduled for shipment on 10/1. Well I hope at worst case that he is right and it does go on the 1st. I am now running into the risk of not being home if it ships at the end of this week, I'll be in New York for 3 days next week. Now wouldn't that be horrible if it was returned to Apple because I wasn't home.

Oh one other thing, someone a while back said something about the lack of functionality of Apple's Order Status. I completely agree, Dull did get this one right. Very informative.

The 400 only works on UK terrestrial digital signal

i'm back. update on the status of my iMacg5/20inch/250gb/1gig ram

i called westworld today and they said that they'd ordered it. I can only assume that they'd just ordered it today.

Grr... I still don't have an ETA!! They'll call with one in the next couple of days, because they need an 'apple order conformation'; but i'll call them again on friday if they don't.

i need a hug. :( i'm waiting on pins and needles for it and i'm terrified that apple will take its sweet, sweet time or junk up my order.

i'm in a state of constant confusion.

Ordered my first Mac last night!

Yep - that's right, I've used Windows for over a decade - have built my boxes from scratch for almost as long and support my family's, my friends, and my extended family's PCs as a "hobby" (plus I make a little money on the side sometimes).

I placed my order last night for the 17" 1.8Ghz iMac G5 with a 160Gig HD and 1Gig RAM. Apple says it'll take 3 to 4 weeks to ship and ground transit should take 3 to 5 days. I can't wait to start tracking it!

Much thanks to all who posted (so far) their honest impressions and cool photos! This forum has been one of the best resources I've yet found and has convinced me that it's time for me to finally make the switch. I saw the 17" iMac G5 last Saturday and, although I wasn't floored by its speakers, I was impressed by the form factor and the performance. Thanks again goes out to those who have posted about changing the CPU performance settings (from Auto to Highest)! That's the first thing I'm going to do when I get this baby fired up

Congrats Jeff. I'm a newbie switcher myself with a 20 incher on the way. Eagerly waiting! I'm thinking there's gonna be a few more switchers with the new iMac!

That's for sure - For the first time in my life I can actually say I
A> Know a handful of people who own a Mac and
B> Know a handful of people who want a Mac

For me, it was either stick with XP Pro until MS came up with something better, switch to Linux, or dump the whole 32-bit PC architecture in favor of a 64-bit G5.

Congratulations Jeff

I switched a little over 2 years ago and have never looked back. Macs are a real joy - so much so that I replaced my original 667 PowerBook with a new 1.5 this April, then got the new 23" display so I can work on it in the office (and get rid of the Dull), got my wife an iBook & iPod under the Cram & Jam offer and now have a 20" iMac on order. Guess you can tell where the PCs are heading!

You'll find a ton of things for your new iMac, but the link below will give you something to look at while you're waiting:

http://osx.hyperjeff.net/Apps/cats.php

This is from a guy that has listed everything he can find for OS X, including freeware, shareware and commercial products. iLife is even listed. You'll spend hours looking at everything and have a nice list for the day your iMac arrives.

Have a great time in the Mac world - I sure have!
