iMac G5 Now Shipping

My exact order

Not too much different from many of the others:

IMG5 20/1.8/512/160GB/SD/APX/BT Combo

Ordered:

8/31/04 (or 31/8/04 for the EU guys 😀 )
11:14 PM PST

Through the Education Store.

Ship Date still reads:

On or Before 10/01/04
 
wow.

the on or before 9/29 and 1/10 things seem very, very common.

is it just because you guys ordered so early?

Ordered 8/31 at 6:39 AM PST, shipping OOB 9/29.

There is a new authorization on my card though, so here's hoping it ships soon!
 
Freight shipments

Just some thoughts.

So far Apple has been airfreighting iMacs around the world to meet early orders. Nice for us. Expensive for Apple.

At some point Apple are going to want to start sending shipping containers. MUCH cheaper, considerably slower.

So at some point there will be a lag whilst orders that are currently being airfreighted out are collected, containerised and shipped off instead.

There'll probably be an overlap while they do both. But I would guess that the sooner they can start fulfilling orders from stock thats been shiped to US / European warehouses the sooner they stop spending big money on airfreight charges.

So bear in mind my friends.... they fun will not last for ever.

Just as long as they fly out mine first.

hi.
i know one guy in norway who got his imac!
it was a 17" 1.8 gHz, 500 and something ram, 160 gb HD.
no bluetooth and i dont know about airport extreme.

he ordered it 31/8.

i'm waiting for almost the same machine, only 1 gb ram and with
bluetooth and airport extreme. ordered mine 1/9 and shipping still
says 29/9

I think its because of the times zones.fedex puts it in order of time so if it left Japan at say 6pm and left alaska at 1am it would say it left Japan after it left Alaska!its all really complicated so if anyone has any corrections please tell me because im not sure if ive got it totally right... 😕
 
Stupid Question

Yes, I know there are no stupid questions only stupid people. 😀

But here goes anyway, has anyone received an update during "business" hours in the US? As it is now 4:32 am my time (I live in New Orleans this is not abnormal to be getting home right now) and it is 5:32 PM Shanghai time, so I was wondering if updates are posted as items shipped or if Shanghai sends info back to Cupertino then things are updated? Just curious.

Now off to bed so I can be update for class at 11:30. I love being back in school.
 
A pattern emerges

I forgot to list that mine was ordered through the govt employee store. Also paid $30 "expedited shipping" (a sucker born every minute, as they say).

Seems as if we all more or less "loaded" our machines, all w/BT, then a mixture of HDs and memory above the minimum, we ordered early AND many of us (cheapskates) ordered w/discounts.

That's the pattern so far. Anyone see something else?

The govt discount is about 8%. Is this the edu discount? Go ahead, make my day and tell me it's more. 😱 heh

Seriously, these rumored BTs shipped to-date...I wonder if they were full-price machines?
 
Ever since I placed my order on 9/7 there has been a temporary authorization on my credit card. Now that has dissappeared. This is the first activity I've seen since I ordered. Is this usually what happens right before they ship, or have I completely lost it?

Actually, mine disappeared about a week ago and I haven't seen any activity on my account since.

And there have been reports of EDU 20" iMacs with BT shipping, I saw it on another message board a few days ago.
 
Ironic

I'm in the ironic situation of not wanting my iMac 20" to ship !

I ordered a couple of weeks ago, but in the meantime the need for a new machine became much more pressing, and I relented and bought a DP1.8Ghz G5 Powermac on eBay (which should turn up today). I don't want to cancel my iMac order until I'm happy the G5 actually turns up and works, but I don't want to leave it too long in case I end up with two new Macs ! 😎

I did not get any kind of discount on my computer.
 
Wireless Desktop

I ordered my iMac on 09/15 and it's to be shipped on 10/13, so just about 3 weeks untill i'll switch 😀

It's an iMac 17" 1,8 Ghz SD 512 MB RAM and BT Keyboard an Mouse.

Could anyone with BT Keyboard and Mouse please post wether there are also wired kb and mouse included? I read about it but i cant really imagine that they'll give me the wired ones, either 😕

I have heard reports of both. I have read posts that they had called Apple and the reps told them that it does indeed ship with both a wired and wireless keyboard. I have also read that Apple said only the wireless keyboard will be shipped. So I guess we won't know until one of our orders actually ships.

The argument was made that a bluetooth keyboard and mouse won't work out-of-the-box with a new Mac because they must be paired to the computer. However I have heard that Apple will pair the KB/Mouse to the computer before it ships.

Regardless, I'm wondering how we will boot from a cd or start the computer in target disk mode if the keyboard isn't recognized until later in the boot process. I have another Apple USB keyboard so I'm not too worried, but I'm hoping that Apple has thought about this issue.
 
Early adopter still waiting

Ordered my 20" with 250 GB HD and BT on morning of Aug 31, Canada store, accessories shipped, but iMac order still "Open", ship date "On or before 09/30/2004".

received a shipped notification on 20. september, but couldn't track
the shipping status from tnt express, so i called apple, and she told me that they will first ship everything to their central european distribution center in
the netherlands, and then hand it out to tnt express netherlands and from that time you can to track your shipping status.
 
I ordered mine at about 8pm UK time on the 31st.

20"+512MB (1 chip) +BT+KB+MS+wireless.

Estimated shipping date 29/9
Actual shipping date Yesterday

Paid full price

Currently it has a flight booked for tomorrow according to the tracking page.

(I hope it gets peanuts and a drink)

You can track european ones from this site

You have to enter the code that appears at the end of the link containing your tracking number - not the actual tracking number itself.

I got the edu discount.

$100 off the base computer

$23 off the 1gb of ram

$8 off the airport card

$10 off the 160gb hd

$50 off the applecare

$10 off the BT + Keyboard + Mouse

So $201 off total which pays for the tax + another $80

Now if it would just ship 😉
