I switched and ordered my 20" iMac /BT/Wirless/1GB/250HDD on the 8th September and it shipped (after 3 "sorry but we will have to revise your shipping date" emails) on the 18th October.

Any idea how the tracking numbers work on the TNT website? The numbers given by Apple (I've tried them all) don't bring anything up when trying to track a parcel being sent to the UK from overseas.

I'll just have to wait............ (I've taken 2 weeks off work now though :) )

Hey another Andy waiting for his iMac in the UK. What are the chances...

I ordered my 17"/Bluetooth bits/160GB/stock on the 6th October. It reported OOB 3rd November, and it shipped on the 17th October. Now I'm not trying to rub salt in the wound by saying that, I'm just saying. I'm having problems with the order tracking too. The apple store tracking page doesn't show anything under "Activity" etc, and the TNT boys ask for a nine digit number, of which there are none in Apple's emails.

Make sure you are on TNT express, not any of the national sites. I think that'll be part of it. Also, I don't think they've taken any money from the bank yet. I haven't had any phone calls from the bank asking to authorise the payment, so I'm hoping this is an apple problem, not a banking one. (I do have the money in the account.)

I think I may give apple a ring and see if the call centre chaps can give me the proper TNT number.

Anybody else in the same boat? (crate?, aeroplane?)

Andy

Hi,

Still no shipping notice despite earlier promises.... Received an email today from Apple telling me that "all" iMacs are scheduled to ship by 23 October 2004. Not sure if that is from overseas or Sydney. They didn't tell me.

However, a friend of mine actually received his today. Yes delivered! He ordered stock 17 through a reseller. Still, first actual iMac I've heard of being delivered in Australia that wasn't a store demo version.

They must be here soon!

Here's hoping!! :)

I didn't get that email! but have been told the same information over the phone.

just posting this so i can gripe a little about it. apple says they won't allocate my mac to me until friday at the earliest. bah!

I just spoke to the apple store on the phone. The lady said it would be most likely tuesday or wednesday next week, given the tracking information that they have access to. I'm hoping she wasn't just palming me off.

Another week! aargh!

I had similar problems getting the TNT sites to recognise anything. Looking back through some of the posts in this thread, its clear that a different company bulk ships (flies) the iMacs from China and hands them over to TNT here in Europe (Netherlands ??) for final delivery.

Only once they are in the TNT system do they start to track. But once there ARE in its probably just a matter of a day anyway.

However, I did find a link to this site:http://www.apecode.com/appletrack/

This seems to access the tracking info for the bulk shipping firm and worked for me. Apparently mine has been sitting in China for 4 days but is 'booked' on a flight tomorrow.

Fingers crossed... and good luck tracking.

Make that 3 of us. ;)

I ordered the 20" IMac/1GB/250G/SD/BT/APX on September 27th with an OOB of October 25th. So far no sign of anything shipping.

I spoke to one of the store staff yesterday and was told it definately wont ship before the 25th, will take 7-9 days to reach Ireland and then a further 5-7 days to reach me. I was told not to expect anything before mid November. :(

How come I can send packages to China in a couple of days, and yet it takes Apple over 2 weeks? Not to mention half of that time being just from Ireland to England. Do they come by boat or something?

Andy.

I thought that they where Air freighted to the nederlands and then overnighted to the uk via lorry then distributed(my nearest depo is reading)

dont know where Ireland comes into it (though they do assemble Powermacs there I hear)

But, Mine is sat in a crate in Shanghai (since 17th) waiting until tomorrow(21st) to be shipped..YAY!!!! shanghai is 8hours ahead, so we may see an update to our status by tomorrow night!

I think this means that it might have flown out of Shanghai on the 19th. But since its now early on the 21st in China that would have been a very slow flight if it hasn't reached somewhere in Europe [I've seen Luxembourg, The Netherlands, and Ireland mentioned in this thread] by now. Ho hum. Patience is a virtue...

Hi to all the Andy's!

My money was taken out on the day after ordering, but it was via a debit card? Obviously the laws/policies regarding taking funds for payments where the item has not been dispatched are different when paying with, essentially, cash and not credit?

The link for Kuehne-Nagel's tracking (http://www.apecode.com/appletrack/) given above (sorry, I knew it was in this thread somewhere but am lazy) worked for me using the number starting with "80xxxxxxxx" and it's waiting to leave China tomorrow.

What's a few more days after waiting this long anyway.

Good luck with your waiting.

Picked up a 17" 1.8 right form the Apple Store last night for my work machine. the PC users in my office are drooling!

BUT

Needs.RAM.BAD.

1 gb of Crucial coming Fed Ex tomorrow

It looks as if a lot of us Europeans are booked on todays flight.

Could it be that they wait to collect enough stuff to fill a plane before dispatching a whole load at once ?

If so this would imply that the people whos computers just missed the last flight get to wait longest whilst those who were delivered yesterday have a chance of making it onto todays flight.

Regarding the destination country:

I only mentioned the Netherlands as the Apple store tracking page says that mine will be delivered by TNT (Netherlands) so it seemed possible to me that this is where they start the ground leg of their journey.

I could well be wrong though.....
:)

Silent 17" Arrived

Though y'all would like to know that my parents called from the frigid north (well, Portland) and their new 17" SuperDrive iMac arrived. I had asked them to call me so I could walk them through setup but by the time they called they were already playing around with it. They were astonished that the printer "just worked" and that Fast User Switching could be so...fast (stupid XP). My stepdad literally gasped at the cube effect! They couldn't believe that they could print AND surf the web at the same time (stupid XP).

And after they were through with their giddiness I asked with a bit of fear how loud the machine was. And their response: "Is it supposed to make noise? It's silent, is that normal?" Phew. I had been reading horror stories about loud iMacs and was freaking out in my head.

So I though some people on here might want to know that a 17" 1.8 BTO delivered today is silent. Perhaps Apple's nailed the problem.

That's good news. It will make a change from my overclocked, overbloated XP machine that sounds like I've got a turbine in the house.

That machine is being expelled to the garage to mainly act as a server and store my DVD collection on and upload my house's secuirty camera's images to the web.

The iMac already has been treated to a new desk which the PC is not getting anywhere near!

Sad. Yes. But 99.9% of you will understand!

They're here!!!!

Shipped

Just a piece of info for folks who ordered later in September. My 20"/1.8/SD/BT/Wireless KB/512 BTO, ordered on 9/23, with a ship OOB 10/22, was shipped today, 10/21. So it looks as though they might be getting some of those 20" BTO units out the door.

Here's my take on how Apple ships to customers based in Europe, based on prior orders and the several weeks I've spent waiting for my replacement iMac:

> Apple subcontracts assembly of several products (at least iPods and iMacs) to a company called Flextronics. Check out www.flextronics.com

> Once a production run of like configuration iMacs is ready, they are palletized and handed over to Kuene and Nagel. K+N is a bulk freight company and books space on ships/planes/trains for intercontinental transport. In this case K+N organizes available space on cargo flights between Shanghai and Luxembourg, presumably with Luxair. Check out http://www.luxair.lu/luxair/jsp/polopoly.jsp?d=151

> Cargo operators typically stop at a few locations en route to their final destination to maximize utilization of the aircraft. Luxair's flight from Shanghai stops in Bangkok and Azerbaijan en route to Luxembourg. As an example, the flight that left today (21-Oct) will actually arrive in LUX on Saturday (23-Oct).

> Once in LUX, it gets placed on a truck (status of "Departed Direct") and shipped to Flextronics Netherlands in Venray (status of "Truck arrived at Apple Shanghai"). This trip typically happens overnight but only on business days. Flextronics in this case is operating as an agent of Apple. There they presumably break up the pallet and label the boxes for distribution.

> TNT Express stops by Flextronics, picks up and scans all the boxes. The truck then goes to their Eindhoven depot to get the boxes en route to the various destinations throughout Europe. It's at this point that the delivery number contained within your shipping email from Apple begins to work on TNT's tracking page.

> Apple typically selects TNT's "Economy Express" option, which normally means 2 business days between Eindhoven and your doorstep.

> Overall this translates into around 7-9 workdays door-to-door, especially if it leaves Shanghai close to the weekend.

I can't believe I have dedicated so much time to follow this thing... I need to seek help.

I'm still waiting for my 20"/1.8/250/512/non-BT ordered on 9/22, OOB 10/21, to ship. But it's still 10/21 I guess.. I'll gonna be checking my status every 30 minutes.

i'm still waiting for my 20" BT + wireless KB & Mouse, my 3rd OOB date is tomorrow (22nd Oct) if they change the date again they gona give them a mouth full. it not the fact that i can't wait, it's that they keep changing the date. i wish they would give a date and stick to it. i ordered it on the 13 Sept, 6 weeks ago. and what gets my back up, even more, is people who ordered after me for the same spec computer have theirs already. :( :(

I think that you are doing just fine. Your a Mac fan and so the subject interests you. Your interest in the facts is appreciated.

Just setup an Airport Extreme Base Station plugged into an Ethernet ADSL modem.

Is all Apple stuff so simple to use?

I had my XP machine and an ipaq talking to each other and accessing the net within literally ten minutes (I admit that 5 of those minutes involved screwing the modem and base station to a shelf!) plus iTunes is now streaming around the house with Airport Express, again just plug in and go, all secure too.

The future looks good. Why has it taken me so long to see the light?

Does anyone here who ordered an iMac (preferably 20" special order) between 9/18 and 9/20 have an OOB ship date?

If so, what is it?

My iMac still hasn't come yet. I'm beginning to get quite pissed off.

CC Charges

Has anyone been watching their Credit Cards online to see what happens before their iMac shipped?

My 1.6 17" 512MB APX was ordered on 9/24 with OOB shipping 10/26.

Last Sunday (10/17) I noticed a $1500 reduction in my available credit (though nothing posted as a transaction) which could only be explained as being the iMac payment being authorized but not processed. Then on Monday, my available credit increased by $1500 -- as if Apple removed the transaction. Then it stayed the same until today, when the available credit decreased by $1500 again (but still not posted).

So here it is 10/21 and the order is still "open".

Has anyone experienced this?

Thanks!
Matt (Seattle)
