Not funny anymore...

Ordered on 8th Sept. 20", Airport, 1Gb RAM, BT keyboard and mouse.
Now had 3 emails re. delay. Supposed to ship yesterday and still no sign and no notification of shipping.

Getting seriously fed up waiting now and honestly considering just cancelling my order.

Has anyone who's order was supposed to ship yesterday received notification yet?

i have just tried to phone Apple UK for an update. spent 30mins hold in que did not get to speak to anyone, i gave up in the end.

I have had one on order since the day after it came out. For a standard 20" from a large UK reseller. i have now been quoted a time of another two weeks at least.

This is ridiculous, there is a limit to how long I can wait, and how close it is towards the next revision being produced. i am seriously tempted just to get an emac when the new emac model comes out, as I assume it won't be delayed like this due to its G4.

I don't think the delay has anything to do with the G5 processor as they can ship the new PM 1.8 single in 4 days, the 1.8 dual in 24hrs and even the 2.0 dual in 24hrs. This would suggest there are enough chips to go round, probably enough to put a 2.0 in the iMac if they wanted. It must be the enclosure that the bottle neck.

Fair point. It would just be nice if they could get some in, as this particular reseller has not received a single 20" machine at all.

Anyway, I will be content with my 400mhz G3 for now as it is still a good machine

It's Shipped :)

:) :) , just checked my online status for the 8th time this morning and it has changed to shipped status :D , so i goto use the apple UK tracking, and guess what it's DOWN for site maintenace :( till 5pm GMT. well i guess i will have it in 2 weeks then. yeah i'm getting some where at last :D.

Got it

Hi,

Just wanted to say that I got the iMac. It's my first mac, and I'm loving it. Fortunately, it doesnt have any dead pixels, and makes a tiny amount of noise that i would never notice.

I also wanted to thank everyone here for their support.

Ali

PS. It's worth he wait!

I think that all the Mac's make a certain amount of noise. It's like anything else after a while, most users will become accustomed. Happy for you about no dead pixels. Welcome to the family of Mac users. ;)

Photographs

Although my "unpacking of the imac" was a deeply personal experience, accompanied by a need to pee because of the excitement, I forgot to take photographs. But I did take some when it was all unpacked and on my table, strutting its stuff next to the PowerBook.

But having seen how amazingly tidy the other desks in photographs were, I am too ashamed to post. Straight single men living alone are not the tidiest. I have a roomba, but it doesn't tidy up my desks ;-)

What I will do is tidy up tomorrow, and take some 3D Stereo pictures. So if you have the ability to go cross-eyed, or some special glasses, you can enjoy my new iMac complete with added depth..

Chill....

Ok, folks, calm down.

Apple sells computers. Yours will arrive. I waited all d@mn summer -- four months -- so just chill. You'll love it when it gets there.

BTW, I've noticed a bunch of Brits here. Do any of you listen to Virgin Radio UK?

Well, it's coming through crystal clear right now via my Airport Express, digital optical to the Dolby 5.1 receiver.

Absolute bliss. I've spent about $60 US at the Music Store so far...no end in sight.

Hold tight. You'll be rewarded...

Brit Abroad

I'm a Brit - well, a Paddy - in Seattle. Not tried Virgin Radio, but I scrape BBC's website for content daily for my iPod-enhanced commute. I'll give Virgin a try though.

Edit (1): yuck - must you install their own player?

Edit (2): the US site insists you install a Windows only player. The UK site has several iTunes feeds. Nice. Sounds good coming out of my new iMac's speakers ;-)

Yes, but mainly in the car!

It won't be so long before you will be streaming it to your vehicle too the way that wireless technology is gathering pace!

My iMac story

OK, I ordered my 20-inch, 1.8G5/1G/250G/bluetooth, Wireless keyboard/mouse, airport extreme on Sept. 19. On Oct. 18 it was shipped! I was over 1,000 miles away in Phoenix! Aghh! And to top things off, the person taking care of my house kept missing the delivery truck. So now I'm home with no computer, but two FedEx door signs. It is so sad. My iMac was here! I can almost smell it!
Luckily the third delivery attempt is tomorrow (Monday). I will NOT miss that truck. I will sleep by the front door if necessary! ha!
Hopefully this time Tuesday, I will be posting pictures of my new addition!
Good luck to everyone still waiting. Maybe go out of town for a week. That sped things up for me!

Thanks,
Holly

Wierdness in the UK

I've been following my mac's progress around the world with the various tracking links on here (mostly apecode. Thanks to whoever worte that) and yet the apple tracking page is still showing no activity at all.

And on a child-like note of excitation, TNT say it's in manchester now! I'm in manchester! They have no excuse for not delivering it tomorrow. Now all I need is to get some cable tacks to run the broadband upstairs...

I will look forward to your pictures stickyjohn. Chances are your desk isn't as messy as mine. You know the old saying that a clean desk means an empty mind. Your desk just indicates that you are a very busy guy.

I'm really anxious to see the 3D stereo pictures. That will be a first.

Expandability?

I'm sure this has been addressed earlier, but I'm wondering, as I'm proposing the iMac as a solution to both my mother and my girlfriend: what ISN"T expandable on the iMac? Or what is? Looking for ways to make buying now a cheap solution, and upgrading later a gradual improvement.

Thanks

What is expandable: memory. Hard drive, if you're willing to dig into the internals; or you can get a firewire case and throw an IDE drive inside that. (Note that these cases can get pretty noisy, especially as the fans get old.) CD-ROM/DVD-ROM (again, if you dig into the internals). Airport Extreme.

What isn't: just about everything else.

These things are an all-in-one design; upgrading anything else is likely to involve the mid-plane assembly, and that's not something for your average consumer. I'd be willing, if my computer was out of warranty, but I wouldn't advise it for Joe Bloggs down the road.

Although somewhat off topic with the flow of the conversation you might want to give "BBC 6 Music" a shot. It's quite an eclectic mix of music styles that is played... pop it is not!!

As it stands the station is only available through DAB, a variety of digital TV sources and on-line at the following address [via Real]...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/6music/

And to finish off, there is quite the "international" audience with it... which is nice!

Laters ;)

I ordered a 20" iMac on september 29th. I received an email from Apple on october 18th where they told me it would be delivered in 6-7 business days. Fine.

It took me a while to find the apecode tracker, but I eventually did. What makes me nervous is that the order status has been 21 okt 04, Flight Booked, Apple Shanghai for just about a week now. Did it fall out of the plane?

I guess I'll have to wait for at least another week. I'm starting to get quite pissed off!

Still no news

Phoned Apple again this morning. My BTO was ordered Sept 8th. I've had 3 delay emails. Finally supposed to ship Friday 22nd Nov - still no sign.
They couldn't tell me what happened or when it will ship. They said they would phone me back - that was 2 hours ago. Still no news...

They have until friday or I'm going to have to cancel and I'll try again in the new year. If they announce a product as on sale and shipping I don't think a 7 week wait is acceptable...

Once I installed a 1gb stick of Crucial RAM in the 1.8 iMac at work, it came alive.

I love this thing, I mean I'm in love with the brilliance, performance and "all-in-one" design.

I have people come in the office and honestly ask me "Where's the computer?"

Home run, Apple.
