Quite honestly, I can't picture what would replace the current Mac Pro case or the MacBook Pro's case... I can't think of much to improve upon.
I would expect it to get some black accents á la iMac / MBA, and I would also expect them to look into H2O cooling.

The Voodoo is already watercooled so there's no need for a chickenwire case, instead they can focus on keeping the noise to a minimum.

You think apple should stop making computers?
Me? No, I think they should start making computers again and stop obsessing with handheld gadgetry. Then again I know why they're holding off new computers at the moment, seeing as Intel has a new platform just around the corner. Those who are miffed about the lack of MB and MBP updates at WWDC would be even more miffed if they got new machines for this summer, only to find that they're updated with a spanking new Intel platform around christmas...

Answer: Tablet.... the MOUSE KILLER! ;) :D
Tablet, the type of computer i will never want!:D

to me theres just something about the laptop form factor that i think is perfect for mobile computing, yea tablets will be great for niche markets once they catch on, but i personally will never use one.:apple:

The Mac Pro is not about solely how it looks, the people that use it don't care about modern design in their workstation, they want power, and on that the Mac Pro delivers. The Mac Pro is designed around air flow, so if you think a solid sheet of metal allows more air to cool the computer than one with numerous holes in it, you are wrong. Certainly Apple isn't going to build an ugly computer (like that silver brick above), but they aren't going to build one that isn't up the their standards of performance for professionals. Apple puts a lot of time into an efficient design, and the reason they don't change too often is that there isn't much to improve upon in the design. The Mac Pro has a lot of airflow thats true, it allows the low cost and noisy fan cooling to keep things cold. Its just too bad its not designed for the highly supperior and silent water cooling system that the Voodoo is designed for.

If only Apple had lower standards like Voodoo...

I dont think that there is anything out there at this time that could ever kill an iMac there just awesome! Steve Jobs revamp of the product line when he came back as the ICEO was with the iMac and imo that was a pretty sweet looking computer when it first came out, and apple has only improved on it over the years... and whats better than a something with MAC OS X... they don't call it PC OS X do they??? no of course not that would be stupid..because they would have to assume that the product it is installed on is top of the line and all the same.. which is not possible

They *look* really cool, and the build quality seems fine to me, but the touch-screen is "iffy." It works about as well as a giant version of a WinMobile touchscreen, which is to say you have to poke several times to get it to recognise your fingers a lot of the time, or it's accuracy is off a bit.

If you forget about the touch interface, which looks really clunky, and even set aside for argument's sake that it runs Vista, then I think we'd have to acknowledge that HP has included a lot in this computer for the price. I'd like to see the larger screen, more RAM, and some of the other features they offer on the iMac Apple sells at this price. This makes the comparisons inevitable. The Windows PC-makers have struggled for a long time to build all-in-ones like Apple does. It's good that some of them keep trying. HP has come close, at least, and if that puts some pressure on Apple, then more power to them.

haha i know isnt that funny. I also just got a imac that i really like.

Not a Tablet Mac, a wireless tablet that is an extension of your Mac. Basically a larger iTouch that pairs with your Mac. The Mouse Killer! :D

touch interface clunky??

Imagine a 20 inch diagonal with the interface of an ipod touch.

It would be fantastic. A 2 year old could use it, as could grandma.

As stated before -
Apple could use a touchscreen for a home type machine
Apple should upgrade frontrow to be something useful. Win MC is superior.

In almost all other ways osX is superior. Thats why these omissions are so glaring.

touch interface clunky??

Not inherently, just the way it's been done on this computer. Apple seems to be in the process of perfecting touch interfaces. They'll likely make the jump from handheld to the desktop, but one hopes not before the methods are fully cooked. This is the main difference between Apple and the Windows OEMs. Apple develops its own software technology around which they can build their hardware, but the OEMs are stuck with whatever Microsoft develops.

Correct, people don't buy the iMac for design, they buy it for the operating system,

I disagree with this.. One of the best things about Apple is their "design".. Keep in mind the term "design" is about the function of the computer- not just their looks.. I think you'd be hard pressed to find any company, or any product, that is designed as well as Apple products.. It takes a lot of time, energy, and effort to make complex solutions appear simple and no-one does this better than Apple..

OS X is part of this entire design process that makes Apple what it is..

I would agree with that.

There are a lot of HP haters out there lately, but I thought that (despite some of the same things you mention), this is certainly a good effort. It lacks in comparison to some of Apple's designs, but compared to the regular sort of windows dreck it's rather nice.

I'm no expert on windows stuff anymore, but it certainly seems better than a lot of Dell's offerings.

Any one see the new HP TouchSmart IQ506 PC. This thing looks nice. What you guys think? Looks like it could be an imac killer!!!

That is an iMac killer! While browsing this thread, my iMac almost died of all that laughing! Hahaha ... HP!

But seriously, like most have said ... it needs to have OS X before you can even think about killing off the iMac.

Exactly. I doesn't make any sense to say that since it doesn't run OSX that it can't be compared to the iMac. It can be, and it will be.

no way

No way. How expensive would the glass be to replicate it at that size?

I still don't understand the fascination with front row and media center. Do that many people really watch tv on their 20 inch monitors?

Isn't a nice 32" LCD tv with an appletv or tivo much, much better?
