So will stuff like this make the coming Mac Pro unable to use generic hardware, or be upgraded or repaired? I'm gonna lmao

no how did you extrapolate that?
If it has pcie slots for hardware its meant for compatible hardware. Just like you can connect any eGPU to the thunderbolt 3 port.

All those things are optional on Windows PCs.
It's also optional to buy a MacBook Pro if that bothers you tho

They made me wipe my iPhone to replace the battery earlier this year.
It's actually optional when I got my 6S' battery replaced last month. The genius that I talked said I didn't have to, but in some authorised service centers, they ask for you PIN which is a huge no no for me, so I usually voluntarily wiped my iPhone clean before service (thank goodness for iTunes backup).

Where is the right to repair act. This really does take the piss. Tesla is guilty of similar tactics, where features will turn off if you don't run internal diagnostics on them. I despise this change in tech, if you buy something you own the software, the hardware and the physical item to do with as you wish. If you are not provided with all the tools and not allowed to buy them, you merely are renting the item and should be allow to return it for a full refund even if it's broken.

That's true. Especially after it's considered "vintage" - meaning its obsolete now.

You clearly have no clue who the target audience for the $10,000 iMac Pro . This is a PRO machine used by PROFESSIONALS. This is not a next step up from your moms ipad, this is designed and built for professional animators, editors and high end scientific applications. $10,000 is a drop in the bucket for companies that need and depend on the fastest and most powerful hardware!

Love your sarcasm .
You DO know there is no market for the highend iMac Pros, and noone is buying them ?

Is too much privacy equally bad as too little privacy?

According to some members here, yes, it is.

That T2 makes you think Macs are made for CIA agents. Either Apple is overcomplicating the things by being unnecessarily obsessed with privacy, which leads to unpopular things such as this, or they know something that we do not.

Third option: they just want to make more money (what people mostly want to believe, because it is the simplest explanation).

The current Mac Mini is four years old. The last Mini they made that was consumer friendly (and more powerful!) is two years older than that. If they ever build a new one, and if they put a T2 chip in it, it may very well be obsoleted and unrepairable before they even build a replacement.

Sorry, Apple. I cannot afford to support your shareholders. I have a roof to keep over my own damned house.

the surface Studio 2 looks pretty damn nice! Nearly as expensive as the iMac Pro, but not as good of specs, unless
it's user upgradeable

I guess that’s why all non pro apple products are so easy to repair.

Besides, this is not due to design, they are artificially and willfully imposing a time limit to the ability to repair a product for absolutely no reason other than to screw their customers. That’s ********.

I really wish people stopped making excuses for apple. They’ve become a rather crappy company.

Even companies that "need and depend on the fastest and most powerful hardware" will buy the cheapest toilet paper available, because a penny spent is a penny denied the shareholders. That $10K Mac, and the employee who insisted upon getting it, will eventually stick out as wasteful spending.

That is not my quote, that doesn't sound like me at all, I can swear.

so many doomsday threads on these forums... and it never turns out as bad.

What if the reason for the repair is something that prevents backing up your data?
"what if my hard-drive fails"

previous generations of macbooks have had some access port for direct-interfacing with SSD

this is what is more worrying than the T2 chip

Yes it is if true.

This is the required outcome to repel a cold boot attack that would take place if law enforcement were to grab your computer. Apple needs to put the T2 chip in all of its computers.

Everybody is not a drug lord !

And if you don't trust your government, you should migrate. In Belgium, government respect your privacy rights as long as you don't plan to blow yourself in a mall or express excessive interest for pictures of children.

I'm far more concerned by Google and Facebook privacy invasion practices.

Could it not be a option to turn on?
I have no concerns about someone stealing my laptop and then replacing parts to get access. What i do care about is being able to repair my computer when I'm working in Africa for 3 months. But NO, Apple knows best obviously.

My love for Apple has dwindled in recent years, not because i know anything about the competition (apple user for 25yrs and haven't used windows for 10yrs now), but because I'm fed up with higher prices and a growing feeling that many things no longer "just work”

Another reason to never buy another Mac or just build a Hackintosh (far superior anyway got a third of the price... Quite literally too).
If everyone followed that course of mind then it wouldnt be an os to build a hackintosh

In a future not far away im seeing Apple placing a self destroy chip inside their devices, and every year your device will burst automatically, so you can go and get the new iPhone XSMAXPlusUltra whatereveryoumight call it for $1,999

*being sarcastic*
