The parts for an equivalent PC estimated off amazon prices would set you back 10138 USD. A 3k difference.

I think the price is actually fairly reasonable. I just went a priced a dell precision workstation. The build I went for was an 8C Xeon processor (the fastest they had available), 128GB Ram, 4x1TB ssd drives, a radeon pro with 8GB of vram, and added a 27inch dell 4k monitor and the price was up $12,387. Bear in mind the $13k iMac has a much beefier processor (18C) and double the video memory. If those options were available on the dell workstation, I'm sure it would far exceed $13K in price. My 2 cents.

I'm gonna hold out for the nMP. I really like buying the system and upgrading the RAM later. I'm not pro enough to make this kind of money yet unfortunately. :(

Same here. I'm getting into photography & drawing (just as a hobby/creative outlet for now, but who knows where it'll lead). Sometimes I like create 100MP canvas in Pixelmator to play around with, and it's really laggy on my maxed out 2013 rMBP. So I'd be interested in seeing how it would perform on something like the iMac Pro or a nMP, but I'm not in a good enough financial situation to buy one, nor am I anywhere near a good enough photographer or drawer to warrant such a purchase. However, if I really push myself to become better, I wouldn't mind getting either Pro machine, hooking up a 16" Wacom Cintiq Pro, and doodle a bit. Plus, see how it does on gaming.

I love Apple products but I do feel the pricing keeps creeping up. I've noticed it more so on the laptops.

The UK price has nearly a $1,400 mark up in the UK on this iMac.

They say its the cost of business in the UK but by all accounts they aren't paying their tax due to loopholes so how do they get off charging us more?

I can’t imagine the component parts of a Windows machine ever coming to a total of $13k.

Mac is a convenience platform, not a power platform. Whoever spends that much on a Mac is crazy, and whoever thought those prices would sell is even crazier. That’s why the trashcan Mac Pro didn’t sell, and that’s why I believe this one won’t either.

while people love comparing builds and some making claims that this iMac is cheaper they always leave out the fact that the custom build can be upgraded as needed. Still it is enticing

The iMac Pro review in the article earlier in the week here, where the reviewer had a 10-core, 128GB RAM, 2TB SSD and 16GB Vega video, claimed a similarly priced PC would be $5200. It made it sound like the PC was MORE than the iMac ($4999).

Today, that same iMac Pro shows it's $9599. The PC is HALF THE PRICE!!! LOL!!!

Hmm...

Love how Apple is pushing the envelope on price. There are lots of people with money who just want to spend. As an investor in Apple, this is fantastic. As a consumer, there is probably more to complain about if you aren't one of the people ready to overpay.

add the video card and processor to a loaded iMac (with 32gb ram/1tb ssd) and it it really isn't a big money grab as some see.

Where is the evidence the Mac Pro "didn't sell"? It couldn't be upgraded because the industry decided that high-end PCs would have one, super powerful, super hot GPU, which the current Mac Pro couldn't handle.

The Mac Pro wasn't too expensive. I work at a small video production and animation company, and we all use them.

People, plural, spend that much on bottle service in Vegas nightly. It may be difficult for 'you' to imagine that much money, for many it's a drop in the bucket. Or a night out. Raise your goals and expectations.
I don't think those people use such computer. They recruit somebody else to use computer. Also rich people are not always spending money on something that's not showcasing their wealth.

People complaining about the price need to realise that the iMac Pro isn't aimed at the average consumer, we are talking professional editors, content creators and so on. Movie studios will buy these, it is not very often you see a Windows machine in the editing labs (at least not here in the UK).

Great for studios and agencies, bad for indies and freelances. This is way too much for a completely non-upgradeable system. I'd easily drop 10k on a MacPro, but definitley not something like this.

I think my last 2 MacPro systems were about 7k each.

I'm not a creative pro, but iMacs always looked impressive to me. Realistically, how long would the base model last? Would it still be relevant and responsive in 6 or 7 years?

Mac OS, in the form you know it now, is a Unix operating system. It's a great OS for those looking for an alternative to Linux (Linux is targeted more towards the server market, as opposed to the creative or software development market). Final Cut is Mac-only.

Also, comparable Xeon-powered Windows workstations from HP, Lenovo etc not only come without a monitor and in a tower form factor, they also tend to come with 1000-2000W power supplies as opposed to the 500W power supply of the iMac Pro (this includes the display, if I'm not wrong). This means that the iMac Pro will use much less energy.

But with Windows I can choose a non-reflective monitor, I won't buy another iMac just for this very reason. Apple doesn't offer this option even on this machine. So dumb.

Well the good news is that this will force the next regular version of the imac to be more than bumped up performance wise. A nice machine but it would be a waste for what i would use it for.

Except Vega is a DOG SLOW TURD compared to Nvidia. Also many PRO apps only support gpu acceleration via CUDA. (nvidia) I still don’t get Apple?!

Here’s hoping the “expandable” MacPro coming allows for video upgrades.

There'd be less whining if Apple provided folks with something like the old Mac Pro.

Something you can upgrade, because you need performance assured over time and a little more than thermal-throttled iMacs or laptops, more than mobile graphics... Let alone the whole dedicated GPU dilemma...

All I want is a premium, but fairly priced tower Mac.

I'm okay spending 500 bucks more than PC part pricing or even more, but it's not happening.

What's also not happening is making macOS a proper focus of the company again.

Subpar experience? Won't pick high-priced Mac again and get a Windows/Linux dual-boot machine for raw power.

It's not perfect either, but costs me less in my self-admistering position at home.

Edit: and no waiting for them to bother releasing a new model either! Apple used to care to source PC parts ahead of others, hardly anymore.

It feels as if they regard their computer business as something they need to maintain to maintain coherence only, less because THEY are passionate about it.

Glassed Silver:ios

Apple are working on a Mac Pro, this iMac Pro isn’t meant to replace that.
