I'm hoping that these alleged new iMacs are marvelous, because my 17" Flat Panel 800 MHz G4 is about six weeks premature of 5 years old, and has been showing its age for quite awhile.

What about 10.5 upgrades?

So a dumb question. So you take the plunge in August, get ye'r new imac, then 2 months later are you gonna have to pay full price to upgrade to 10.5? Any idea at what point they'll start tossing coupons in the box?

no idea

Not sure but, I don't mind forking over another 130 in October, I'd rather have the new iMac now, although it would to nice to have a free upgrade thrown in their

Don't think they'll make it free, but closer to $30 than $130. That's what they did for Tiger, and a discount would boost sales of both Leopard and the new iMacs. BTW, I'm still thinking they'll upgrade the minis as well as the iMacs.

Yeah, maybe they'll put desktop chips in the imacs and leave faster laptop ones for the mini :D

Did they do a discount for Tiger for recent purchasers? I didn't remember that. Or was it just for a limited group of customers?

The 24-in iMac is back to 24 hours shipping in the U.S. Store.

Not gonna happen is it? I can't see anything happening 'til October now, to be honest. Just can't see any reason to suspect otherwise. Where is the evidence? I can't see any.

The time elapsed since the last update, the fact that Apple makes more money if it releases new hardware before Leopard, plus the fact that Jobs always likes to keep Apple in the spotlight.

It is? I just checked and it says 1-3 business days. All of the others say 24 hours though.

Edit: Oops, my bad I was checking the Edu. store. Seems like it should be the same though.

its a shame nothing came out today! Looks like august 7th will be the ECT target date.

Well, I was predicting whole-heartedly that new Macs would come on the 24th, and I was RIGHT!!!! I got a new Mac on the 24th!

Specs:
PPC G4 100Mhz
Mac os 9.0.4
128 mb RAM
768 MB hard disk space

As you may have noticed, its an EMULATED system! Good enough for my needs for a few more weeks.

If there is no update on August 7th what will you do? Wait some more, buy an existing imac or fill in the ____________

You haven't been able to buy most versions of the iMac from any reseller for the last 3 weeks in the United Kingdom. They are all out of stock.

I have been waiting since Macworld, so I can wait a little longer...Of course, there is no doubt that they will be out by Leopard. If I have to wait until then, so be it.

Where is the Mac Pro update as well though? We haven't even heard any rumors about it.

Thats just wrong. I know that John Lewis in Glasgow, PC World in Glasgow, Scotsys in Glasgow and John Lewis in Aberdeen all had stock at the end of last week.

I'm not going to wait for Leopard. This Friday, I should have enough for my iMac (Or almost enough, which is ok because I'm getting a discount), so the only thing I'll be waiting for is the iMac update. I can't imagine Apple updating them with Leopard or afterwards because, even though they're powerful computers, they're out of date... so, I'll be waiting for the update and then buying a few weeks later, or a month later, or something. I want to see what people say about them and see if anyone notices any problems with them before I buy.
I'll then buy Leopard for Christmas as I'll be able to afford it, and most of the early-days bugs will be fixed by then, I should hope (Apple is VERY good at fixing bugs quickly, though, so I can't imagine them still having an OS full of bugs 2 months after it's been released... unlike a certain OS we know ;) hehe)
It's just easier and I don't have to put up with my hunk of junk PC for longer than I need to.
