Ya know, with the new iPhone screen dimensions complicating program design, why not announce they've "solved the problem" of resolution & dimensions making that and a 1.5x resolution iMac a no-brainer "it just works" upgrade? That would resolve several problems (the sheer pixel count of a 2x "retina" 27-inch display, the iPad Mini screen specs, the 16x9 iPhone 5 screen layout, and probably others to come like a smarter iPod Nano) in a manner making the live introduction of the iMac 2012 viable (which a speed bump, laminated screen, and no optical drive just don't add up to).

Which no doubt is already well prototyped. With ease we could speculate it has almost no bezel (resolving the looming "the iPhone 5 is too big!" complaints), 2x the cores/memory/storage, improved power balance (smaller battery, longer usage time), thinner screen, more radio standards, etc. Without much more of a leap we could speculate it includes per-pixel image sensing, 3D cameras, 3D display, and a new AI named Jane. Post these enough in the echo chamber and everyone will be convinced it's real, keeping MacRumors et al well-funded for another year.
