A few days ago stock was aplenty in all of the stores near me, now at least half a dozen stores expect shipments on the 12th. Unusual to see all of them have the same date for both the 21 and 27 inch. .

Denver area - I'm seeing:
  • 27" CTO = 9/14 availablity @ all stores
  • 27" 3.1GHz = in stock at 4 of 5, 9/12 at the other
  • 27" 2.7GHz = in stock at 2 of 5, 9/11 at the other 2
  • 21.5" 2.7GHz = in stock @ 1, 9/11 @ 3, 9/12 @ 1
  • 21.5" 2.5GHz = in stock @ all stores

Could just be from shipments from China mostly being packed to the brim with iPhone 5 boxes. I don't want to get my hopes up.

Problem with that theory is that the iPhone will only be announced on the 12th, it won't be available for sale until about a week later. So why rush to get as many here on the 12th when they won't actually start selling them for another week?

I would think it takes a lot of time getting them to the many different stores that actually sell iPhones. The 4S sold 4 million in just three days. I'd expect the iPhone 5 to nearly double that.

Guys, if you don't like the stuff on the front page, then just don't look at the front page. Were it not for the iOS stuff, the amount of iMac articles would be.. exactly the same. And the front page wouldn't change for days at a time.

Oh, I would rather live with the front page never updated for a week than updated daily/hourly just to have it filled up with iPhone craps.

My hate for iPhone is unjustified. It's just that the long wait for the iMac has driven me insane.

I wonder how well the iPhone5 is really going to do..

I guess it's more like it's been too much iphone 'news' already, so in your face kinda, you know... it's coming out next week, do we need more of those leak fotos?... on top of that, even Steve Jobs' widow is making the news twice today, already beating imac for the whole month... ;)

MacRumors can't report on news if there isn't any.

Of course I know what you are saying, but that's the frustrating feeling people are getting. It's not rational, but you can't help it. And that's why ppl bitching about it in the imac thread right? And having people sound like they are so right doesn't really help. Complaining about it doesn't help either, but at least people can let their frustration out. Also, it's to be believed that the subject of the topic exists, not like we are talking something never exist before, but we hear zero thing about it. (they are really tighten their security) Don't get me wrong, I'm pretty neutral about all this. To me it's fun. After all, that's what rumors and speculations about, just talk.

we are only 8 days from 500 days since last imac refresh. Maybe apple will celebrate this day with a new imac :D geez 500 days, thats a long time for computer updates.

Hope so,

otherwise it's been "500 days of bummer"

Been watching this thread with interest as an observer as I'm planning to replace my Windows 7 laptop with an iMac. It'll complete the loop in my household which is now run on Apple devices, so I may as well make the step to a Mac :)

I think some of the emotion on the thread is a quite enlightening as well as a little scary! I want an iMac, I can see the clear common sense in waiting for a refresh if it's imminent, but I'm not going to get upset or argumentative about Apples timescales. It'll be available when it's available. Then I'll buy it.

Based on everything I've read so far on this site and others I admit to having no idea when this refresh will happen other than sometime in the Sept/Oct period seems more likely than not. That'll do for me. If it's later so be it.

What I have decided thus far is that I'll get a new iMac with as big a hard drive as possible as I'd like it to be the primary repository for music, video etc. I'll back it all up on an external drive also of course via time machine, which seems far easier to manage than back-ups in Windows world.

The current design/style at 21.5 is ideal for me, I would also prefer the optical drive to remain as I have plenty of CD ripping still to do. And the less wires the better. So - all I really want from a new iMac is faster processor, better graphics processor, anti-glare screen and USB3. Everything else can remain the same as far as I'm concerned. If a retina screen version becomes available, I think it'll be at a premium price that I will not want to pay.

Fixed some of this for you  Some of us can accept the fact that this site is at least not resorting to making things up in the absence of any rumours.

Don't understand why you feel you need to 'fix it for me'... and I don't think I said anything about 'making things up in the absence of any rumours'... like I said in my first post some people just feel they need to be right for some reason, what are you trying to prove I wonder... and if you didn't read/understand my post entirely, let me say again, I'm pretty neutral about this, and I think it's all fun with all these talks and discussions.
Anyway, keep talking...

I noticed that yesterday myself, the RomaEst Apple Store was out of the higher-end 21.5" at 9:15, and in the early afternoon it was restocked. I checked this via the Apple Store app through the reservation tool.
Speriamo bene...

Jo, Bologna via Rizzoli is full of every kind of iMac ... talked to a Genius just this morning and he doesn't have any clue how they can be so full up of iMacs ! If it was for them, no iMacs till 2020 ! Sono disperato ...

There's not going to be an event for the iMac ever again. Period. There hasn't been an event where they mention the iMac for ages.

If anything, there not being an iMac event in "ages" makes it MORE likely we'll see an event for one of the next few refreshes, not LESS likely.

I'm in Chieti so the closest Apple Store to me is Rome (!), but I would expect the same answer. Most Geniuses don't have access to the stock, and I suppose that new machines are only dropped there the day before.
Shortly before the release of Mountain Lion I called the Apple Premium Reseller in Pescara and the guy was kind enough to tell me that he had no stock fluctuations that would give any idea of an imminent release ("entrano ed escono"). If I have a spare minute tomorrow I'll try again, but it IS weird that while the US stores are drying up, we get no shortage whatsoever. Maybe they just don't sell as well and it's really just old stock that's been sitting there for a while?

Milano here, i don't even bother visiting an apple store...

Meanwhile, some stores in NYC got an early restocking, but even now availability keeps swinging...

I've already had the sensation that the italian market is not really Apple-oriented (except maybe for iPhones), but the fact we have full availability of iMacs here (i.e. stuff to get rid of) makes me think that whenever a new iMac will be released we definitely won't be considered among the countries to be best served ... :(

That's just what always happens in here when Apple introduces new iPhones, iPads, Siri's support, rMBP, ect. ... and that clearly sucks !

Yeps ... I wonder if they got the restocks from italian stores surplus LOL

"Next week" is just in the URL ... not one word about next week in the article itself.

It's actually not even in the URL anymore. There's "imminent" in the 2nd para and there's a reference to the October iPad Mini event as one unlikely possibility. I think his "sources" corrected him.
