Though I don't think most of us here will be able to not order it day 1. ^^

tell me about it...

so we got 2 things covered. there WILL be 2012 imac and it wont be released this wednesday...

but all those reports about making it thinner with probably even thinner display construction leads me to conclusion that the new imac will take cues from air and 15' retina macbook. so we're talikng here about standard blade msata 500mb/s ssds, no odd, asymmetric fans 8gb ram, and the usual performance upgrades. maybe even a new keyboard. if this pans out i'll be saving me 1000 euros. i'm pretty excited

My first iMac was the mid 2007 aluminum model. It ran like a champ!

So not all revision A models could be an issue, I guess it's luck of the draw.

Interesting how the rumours point to the 21.5" being released first and the 27" around 6-8 weeks later on, and at the same time other rumours report that the stock of the 27", not the 21.5" are dwindling. Don't know what to make of that really.

Also on the "first batch" thought about the new screens. The past problems with yellow tint etc. has been with the actual LCD right? Any problems like that wouldn't be due to a new lamination process surely? Possible problems would be those of the rMBP screen, as I presume it will use a similar "fusing" process?

so a one-month wait post-release is in order? i was kinda counting on that, i dont want any loose ends...

From the sounds of things, they might be supply-constrained with 4 week shipping dates anyway...

Personally, if I wanted to avoid spending on AppleCare, I'd wait at least 3 months before buying to see how things are shaking out. But with this being 1st iteration with no known history, you'd probably still be silly not to buy the warranty/insurance even then. So how long you wait to order really depends on how willing you are to work with Apple on repairs/exchanges if you're in the small % that will get a bad unit from the initial batch.

Actually that makes sense. Why buy a 21.5 inch if it is less then 10 days away? on the other hand if you need a 27inch you may now be able to wait 50 days. So the old 21.5 don't sell and the old 27 inch do sell.

That'd mean the majority of iMac buyers keep an eye on rumours. I see what you mean and it's true for the people on this forum for example, but not the general public.

I have been waiting to purchase an iMac for about a month now but read the rumors about a possible 2012 upgrade and have been holding off on buying one since, I hope there is some kind of update or information given on the 12th. :)

Join the waiting club! I've been waiting since April, others even longer. Keep your fingers crossed for some kind of info on the 12th, but don't count on it. I expect nothing but iPhone 5.

I've changed my mind so many times on what to buy, including something really cheap and non-Apple to keep me going. I've been very adament that I won't buy the current iMac if a new one is right around the corner, but I've changed my mind. Firstly, I can get the iMac with educational pricing, and that includes the £70 apps/books/itunes card. I'm going to wait until the 12th, just in case they mention anything about the new iMac. But if it's just a slightly faster processor, slightly faster RAM, slightly better graphics card, for the first time I think I'd be happy with the current model and £70 to spend in the App Store.

I can only see myself being disappointed if the new iMac is a drastic change. But I can't see that happening. Retina is pretty drastic, but I'm personally not interested in that for a large screen (though I do love it on my iPad).

No info on the 12th, I'll get the current iMac.

I'm buying whatever is released before 21st Sept (lest we forget extended warranty for online buys under the educational scheme), anything after that is back to the drawing board, maybe buy top end mac mini when I am States-side in mid-October.

Now the 21 inch iMac is out in best buy and the lower end iMac is running low on amazon. So with this in mind something it's definitely happening soon. iMac happening at the beginning of October? Most likely

I think we should just start looking at the iMac release day by day. Next possible release date is the 12th after that probably the 19th

18th. Apple normally releases things on Tuesdays, they're likely doing the press conference for the iPhone on Wednesday to avoid doing it on 9/11...

I thought it would be a Tuesday if it isn't announced (or silently released) during a media event (which generally is on Wednesdays)?

Why would they get lots of returns? 99% of people who bought an imac in the last month aren't even aware (or care) that there is an apple event on Wednesday. Some 50 year old lady who walked into Best Buy and picked up the base 21.5" sandy bridge model to play facebook games on, doesn't care about usb3.

Seriously? That 50 year old lady was writing software before you were born.

So I'm sure a lot of you have heard by now. There's going to be a sep 12 apple event and it was confirmed by all things D here : http://allthingsd.com/20120730/apple-stocks-up-on-components-for-fall-product-launch/
when all things D reports it, it's pretty ,much a confirmation. Since we also had rumors earlier regarding the iMac to be release in the fall by Kou here: https://www.macrumors.com/2012/07/2...ed-imacs-reportedly-due-in-september-october/
Is it safe to assume we'll see our beloved 2012 iMac in that event ? I know its illogical for apple to release iOS devices with macs but apple hasn't been working logically lately. So I'm curious to see what you guys think.

I don't think its going to happen

The question that remains is would Mac rumors would finally stop posting "leak" iPhone cases now the iPhone has come out. Jesus this is ridic how many times do they have to indicate that the iPhone will be taller. Can't wait for sep 12 not because of the iPhone but I won't have to see more so called "leaks" meanwhile we get no leaks regarding an overdue iMacs I'm pissed guys
