Balls....

Check for a silent refresh when site back up I guess

Pretty sure they would have mentioned that.

I would like to buy a new Mac, ideally next week. I was hoping for some info that would help me make a decision, and I suppose no info is still info and still helps me choose. My dilemma now is MBA 13" or 2011 iMac 21.5". Portable would come in handy sometimes, but if I had to choose between a nice big screen and portability for a similar price, I'd go with the screen. But both are good. So I consider the specs and the MBA wins hands down for the newer tech, especially SSD (which makes a massive difference to me). But then the new iMac might be around the corner. That's pushing me more towards the MBA again, as there won't be any disappointment of getting an old model right before the new one is released.

The £70 app store voucher given for educational discount just makes it more complicated :p

The CPU and GPU in the 2011 iMac is better than those in the 2012 MBA.

Woe is me. :(

The seeming Mac habit of secrecy about upcoming products may create a good deal if hype and curiouslity but it is not helpful in the least to those of us who are returning customers looking to time our upgrades. They are losing me as a customer. bummer for both of us.

It's up. The only change I see with iMacs is that I can't get specific dates on store availability anymore. I just get "see cart for availability", and when I pick the store it says "available in about a week".

I dont see anything up on Apple Store section yet. Will have to wait till store opens up. My hopes are diminishing though, probably XPS One is what will get my money now.

The only half decent thing coming out in relation to the Macs is that the 'NEW' tags have been removed from the Macbook Air & Pro lineup... in prep for iMacs soon lol

dear god i'm dying. I refuse to by that old of an imac.

I've never been less excited after a new iphone event, which they should have let the nano die. just bloody die. Non streaming music IS dead like someone previously stated.

So f'n lame....I am becoming disillusioned.

Agreed, i think it's the beginning of the end of apple. wait until the steve jobs wears off a bit more, say a year or two? mark this as the peak.

GPU isn't too big of an issue for me, or let's say I've used HD 3000 before and it's fine for my workload. CPU is more important I guess, but again I have actually used the MBA before the Ivy-Bridge update and I was blown away. I guess it was the SSD but I loved how fast it was. Ok, I wasn't rendering videos at the time, but everything was more or less instant and I loved that. It made me a believer in SSD.

So, ignoring the GPU, is the 2011 iMac going to be as fast as the MBA for everyday tasks? If so, I guess I just need to decide between screen size and portability.

Seriously? I love music streaming but that seems a very odd claim considering that not everyone is going to be at a wireless hotspot. Seems an alright product for someone who doesn't need all the features of the iPod Touch, and needs more control and features than the Shuffle provides. I love my shuffle for running, but I can see how a Nano would be useful for others, especially when streaming just isn't an option.

I can live with that, imo Apple died even under Jobs when they sold out 100% to the iToys.

Back then though there was at least hope - many saw it coming and wondered if the company would split into two divisions. Too late now and God I wish it had.

But the real problem that I CAN'T live with is where to go? Still can't countenance Windows/PC as I've been using Macs since 1985. OSX is nose-diving, no pro machines, not even a bone thrown.....no easy answers.

You are right lol, hadn't really paid attention to that probably because it didn't interest me right now lmao

I just don't see how $50 is that much of a deal breaker when you get access to so much more for that amount such as apps and communication with other people. Just seems too close of a price point, but what do I know. I am not a multi-billion dollar company.

What was this post in reference to?

Everyday tasks it would be about the same(The SSD would make it a bit faster though for opening apps).

It's sad when the benchmark of an ultraportable (macbook air) and entry level desktop imac (imac) have not so much a difference in their geekbench score. 6197 vs 7241.

and even worse if you get the i7 macbook air, the 13" that is.
7007 vs 7241

It was already set we knew that won't be coming on sep 12 we were hoping still upsetting but that just means there's gonna be an apple event in October where we gonna see the new iMacs October is just 2 weeks away guys don't lose hope ok. It's very upsetting but I'm actually kinda happy because now I know I'm certain that they will happen in less than 5 weeks. That's better than nothing

October really is crunch time. Seriously now, if it doesn't arrive by the end of October and there is no strong rumours of an imminent release then I'm jumping, I don't know if I'll buy an old iMac or possibly (less likely) go for an alternative all in one system but I can't wait into Winter and next year, I've been waiting since May, I needed it in May.

What will you do if it's not here in October?
