this sucks

Perhaps waiting week by week makes it easier than waiting all the way straight to the end of October... :)

But indeed it sucks.

I decided to get a rMBP to tide me over to the eventual release of the iMac. I may pass on the iMac all together. Really depends on specs of the new releases.

I did the same thing, except I bought a top end non retina Macbook Pro. I have been waiting since April for this mythical iMac update, and gave up. I want 2012 tech in my new computer, which is what I will have in two days when it gets delivered!

Today i saw this..
http://www.engadget.com/2012/08/07/nvidia-announces-second-generation-maximus/
I know its not Imac related..but they are speaking about next Fall,
so i started to think if the Imac's delay is due to 680M or some Kepler development in terms of drivers...
do you have any news about machines today using that M Gpu?
Not just selling or ordering..but users who have it working right in front of them.

Huh? This is talking about Quadros. GTX 680M has been shipping since July, and would use substantially the same driver as the 650M in the rMBPs. Alienware & others have been shipping 17" laptops with 680Ms.

There's a possibility that we might see a new spec bumped iMac at the iPhone/iPad event. Just as they did at WWDC, they could devote a small section of the beginning of the keynote to new desktops and then move on, especially if they want to tout the new specs/screen laminating process.

IF they release an iMac on the iPhone event it won't be mentioned. They will talk about all the iOS devices that they will update, then when the apple store is back up MAYBE the iMac will be new as well... Just like the Mac pro on wwdc. It won't be mentioned. But if they actually are updating all the iOS products at the same time I think the least likely day for the iMac would be that day... Might as well then come a week before or after. We will see though, could be wrong.

As Schiller said in court. Their devices don't really need marketing. Rumors and viral marketing is enough. For the iMac that's certainly enough.. It doesn't need any introduction.

Maybe I'm clouding possibility with hope. :p

Sorry for bein off topic but it ties into when I buy my iMac.

Ill be installing Windows on it (EUGH) to play games and I was wondering do you reckon Windows 7 will drop in price now their latest one is coming out?) anyone have experience of boot camp?

7 still seems to be 80 quid here in UK :(

You're right, mine was obviously a provocation..(to talk back about Nvidia..i don't think its just lamination the reason why we haven't Ivy Bridge Imacs yet ..)but it was not my question about real availabilty of 680m...as far i can see it is not so wide spreaded yet..yes they're shipping?but in which volumes?maybe not so much for Apple's purpose

I was seriously trying to get my hands on XP a year or two ago in order to bootcamp on my iMac. XP! It was more than enough for what I wanted, and I figured that with Windows 7 out, and Vista a fading memory, XP should be fairly cheap. Wrong. All resellers still wanted original, full price. Even though the OS was so old it's not even officially supported by MS anymore, I couldn't find a LEGITIMATE copy for less than $199. Don't know how many quid that is, but it's too many dollars, I can tell you.

Not being into pirating, I gave up on the Windows angle and never boot camped.

I would LOVE it if Windows 7 came down in price, but I'm seriously doubting it will.

Remember when you do get a copy of Windows, it needs to be the FULL version, as the upgrade version won't work. You don't have a qualifying Windows version to upgrade in the first place. That's why 7 would cost $199 right now instead of $119.

You'd think we would have seen some leaks about the new imac if it were imminent. Most likely still a bit further off production for whatever reason.

It's not widespread because it's a $500 option, only serious users need apply.

I have my heart set on that being in the next iMac :(:(:(:( I need something as good as the GTX 580 having seen it play games lol. I'll be paying for the extra video memory too :)

£120 on Play.com :S

£13.99 for Mountain Lion.

Microsoft are a joke :(

I really don't expect an iMac on Sept 12. It could happen, but not likely. If it does, in my opinion, it will be a spec bump.

It must be. We should assume that Apple will only use Kepler chips, not rebadged Fermi's. Given that, the 680M is the only option that exceeds the performance of last year's 6970m. (It does so by 80-100%, but it's the only Kepler card to exceed it at all.)

27" cinema display while waiting for new iMacs???

I did the same thing, except I bought a top end non retina Macbook Pro. I have been waiting since April for this mythical iMac update, and gave up. I want 2012 tech in my new computer, which is what I will have in two days when it gets delivered!

Right now I do not have the financial option to buy a newer laptop to hold me over until the new iMacs come out since I am holding out for a maxed out iMac when I take the plunge.

I'm currently on a Mid-2009 15" MBP 2.66 GHz 8 GB of RAM, which suits my needs now but in the future I hope to try my hand at some application development, hence the maxing out of my future iMac. The better specs and especially the larger screen are the main draw for me.

Has anyone else thought about the possibility of getting a 27" display to hold them over until the new iMacs? Less expensive than a new laptop and could be very handy afterwards as a back up screen.

This is all dependent on if the new iMacs come out by October - If there has been no announcement of iMacs by October then I plan on biting the bullet and getting a maxed out 2011 iMac.

Any thoughts/suggestions?

Thanks!

You should be able to use $99 OEM version, e.g. on NewEgg. You just can't phone Microsoft if anything goes wrong.

And this takes to the same another question..
Does Apple needs the new 680m to release new Imacs?
No,and do you really think Apple being stopped by lamination issues?
Imo,No again.
So ,or they just don't want to release or they are preparing something .."new".
If they make us wait ..to give us a "simple" speed bump..well.... .
If something went wrong with the new laminated displays then they could use the 2011 ones, but they didn't ,so,maybe some kind of redesign isn't too unrealistic to happen, but in September there's a pletora of Ios devices to come and don't see Imac happen on September but in a event on next Fall.
If Imac will be just speed bumped in silence, with no new display, can i ask you want this will make you think?Wouldn't sound strange?
Something is boiling..but i fear my expectations are too high as in the last Wwdc.

I saw OEM ones but it says you need a code on your self build - but i'll have a Mac so can't do that. Also. . .I'd not be able to keep it updated with windows security and all that stuff on.

I don't care how they launch the updated (or new) iMac or Mini just as long as we get them. If it comes 'hidden' with the launch of the next iPhone or a 7" iPad then bring it on! I can only assume what ever the hold up was with the update that they couldn't announce it back in June because they clearly weren't ready back then.

Now there hasn't even been a tiny news or rumor about iMacs for weeks. Nothing to live on while we wait. No supply shortage, no convincing geek bench scores, no nothing :( is this how its gonna be through out August & September??? Wish I could enter cryosleep while waiting, this vacuum is killing me.

Haven't been on this forum since April. The new iMac was meant to come out back then according to a lot of posters on this site. Now that I think about it I've been waiting since last December for the new iMac....
