If this is what they've got, I think I'll wait for the next generation of Mfi controllers.

I'm looking for dual sticks and a slimmer design.

How is the iPad version going to be? I surely hope they make a standalone controller to use with the iPad...IPhone is okay for simple games, but the large iPad screen is great for the rest.

I would buy a game controller that I can use with my iPad, but not something I have to finagle my iDevice into.

doubt it. People who play Zelda, Mario will always buy Nintendo.

apple needs to get Nintendo to release some mario and zelda games for the iPad.

Maybe the iPad 5 will have the graphics required?

Apple has already taken Nintendo's handheld gaming market share.

Phase 2:

- Provide gaming controller support in iOS 7

- Update Apple TV with new hardware to support gaming with iOS 7 game controller support

- Release new Apple TV in time for holidays just as PS4 and XB1 are coming out.

- Apple takes Nintendo's game console share (the Wii was previously the top-selling game console, though WiiU has been a failure)

Bonus Phase:
- Apple acquires Nintendo or cuts an exclusive deal to be Nintendo's hardware arm while Nintendo keeps pumping out games with their iconic characters exclusively for iOS and Apple gives a big fat check to Nintendo to help them convert to a software-only house.

If you want to play Mario or Zelda on a tablet like device now, just buy a Wii U. lol
It's cheaper than an iPad.

Are you guys kidding? Nintendo has had a huge profit loss recently.

And it's due to smartphones.

yes, Nintendo had a profit loss during the Gamecube era was because of the iPhone also.

I think the Xbox and Playstation are about to get their lunch eaten.

No, they aren't. iPhone/iPad/etc gaming and Xbox/Playstation/PC gaming are 2 completely different markets. The former is for casuals gamers who play games like Angry birds and the latter is for hardcore gamers that play games like GTA V. Until the day comes where one can play the exact same version (not watered down versions) of games like GTA V and Call of Duty on an iPad or Apple TV, traditional gaming consoles won't be going anywhere.

iPhone/iPad gaming is for when I want to kill 10 minutes. Console/PC gaming is for when I want a real, immersive experience. A device like this isn't going to do jack to merge those 2. Even Apple TV gaming won't do anything close to making that happen because all that means is playing games like Angry Birds on my TV (yawn).

Their recent losses are due to the Wii U, which is the first console Nintendo has sold at an initial loss. The DS + 3DS are actually very profitable.

i really would buy that!

the only thing that keeps me from buying the fps games in app store is the annoying touchscreen control-****... :)

If I'm going to buy an iPhone controller, something slim like this wouldn't be necessary. Are most people going to carry something that long anyway? It's not pocketable. I'd rather get the model that has dual thumbsticks, per the reference controller schematics that Apple released, so that I can play 2D and 3D games. I'll probably keep it in my bag and pop it on when I need it, or at least keep it around at home for some more intense gaming sessions. I've been waiting so long for this! I have the feeling that this will really put Nintendo and Sony out to pasture when it comes to portable gaming systems. They were already in trouble before these new controllers. I think future iOS devices running 802.11ac hooked up to a new Apple TV running 802.11ac will enable even better AirPlay streaming quality with less lag than we have now—turning an iPhone into a full-fledged gaming console. I'm already pretty sure the 5S is on-par with the Xbox 360. Will the gaming performance of the iPhone 9, 9S or 10 (iPhone X?) surpass the Xbox One by the end of it's life cycle in the early 2020s? I think so.

I'm just a bit baffled as to why everyone seems to think Nintendo should develop for smartphones but Microsoft & Sony shouldn't.

If anything, Nintendo is in the best position of the three.

(And yes I realize this chart ends in 2011...trying to find a current equivalent at the moment.)

uh, we simply LIKE the games for crying out loud...No one is playing armchair market advisor to Apple or Nintendo here.

If you have to carry around a controller and a stand to play videogames why not just play some actual console games at that point? Talk about defeating the purpose...

The point is making the iOS gaming controls better with an external controller. I don't see any of the controller options as something I am going to carry around with me. This is an in home device that I can use without using my tv. If I want console games I will play my console.. I will also pay console prices so if I want to casually game on my phone or ipad I can do that with the option of a controller. People want options thats the purpose of these controllers.

If you LIKE the games perhaps you should buy the hardware the games are released for instead of trying to push a successful company into a taking a dive just for your own selfish wishes?

There are a number of flaws in your assumptions. Namely, how exactly would Apple steal gamers from Microsoft and Sony? What first-and-third party developer support does Apple have? Is Rockstar going to support Apple to the same degree? What about Rare, Naughty Dog, Quantic Dreams? Are they going to produce equal quality gaming for Apple? iOS developer support cannot compare, in both quality of the final product and intuitive nature of the gameplay, to true console and PC developers. And that's why people are willing to pays premium for the software. Apple, given its current gaming strategy, will not make a big dent in Sony's and Microsoft's strategies.

If Apple successfully manages to dilute the quality of home console gaming by moving the entire industry to casual gaming, I will never forgive them. They will have destroyed an industry.

You're assuming the same business model is going to continue to work for gaming. That's what I'm disputing.

Currently, you're exactly right. iOS hardware and its ecosystem just isn't set up to support console-quality games.

My point is that Apple's hardware is advancing up a pace that's much quicker than Microsoft or Sony or (sigh) Nintendo. I also think Apple is creating an ecosystem that will allow for a broader range of games on the same console - from casual to the more advanced. I don't think Apple is going to force the industry into casual gaming.

The (alleged) introduction of a standard controller spec is what makes me think Apple is attempting to attract some of the console developers.

It's not baffling at all why people would want nintendo on IOS.

I have childhood memories of nintendo games, don't buy consoles anymore, and would love to replay old, gameboy, snes, n64 or even game cube games.
