Most of the time you’re correct, but it’s not absolute. I’ve experienced issues with controls being covered by the notch. Typically in games.
I guess that happens when game developers generate the entire UI themselves and aren’t too careful about layout. A regular app using normal controls is less likely to get themselves into that situation.

Following Apple's announcement that it will hold an event on Wednesday, September 7, several alleged leaks coming out of Asia purport to show the iPhone 14 Pro's display cutouts and status bar items.

iPhone 14 Pro concept render by Ian Zelbo based on purported leaked information

Twitter user "DuanRui" today shared several images from Chinese social media site Weibo, with one seemingly showing a close-up, real-world image of the iPhone 14 Pro's "pill and hole-punch" TrueDepth camera array cutouts that are expected to replace the notch.

For reference, Twitter leaker known as "Ice Universe" shared an image of the front of an iPhone 14 Pro dummy earlier today. In the image, the display cutouts are clearly artificial, which may make the above image much more believable.

At the same time, leaker "ShrimpApplePro" shared a segment of a screenshot allegedly from an iPhone 14 Pro Max, overlaid with an identical screenshot from an iPhone 13 Pro Max, to show how Apple is purportedly planning to enlarge and realign the status bar's items to account for the new "pill and hole-punch" TrueDepth camera array design.

Another alleged screenshot from ShrimpApplePro shows how the entire status bar is arranged on the iPhone 14 Pro Max, repositioning the cellular signal, Wi-Fi, and battery indicators slightly lower and to the right.

The standard iPhone 14 models are expected to retain the same notch used on the iPhone 13 linep, with the "pill and hole-punch" being one of the main selling points of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. The devices are also expected to feature the A16 chip, an always-on display, a 48-megapixel Wide camera, and more.

USB-C or not? The only relevant question.

Can you expand on why?
My initial reaction to hole punch screens was that it felt too intrusive, what with the missing pixels within the borders of the display. Though I'm no fan of the notch, at least it's not as distracting in that sense. It dips into the display, but without the pixels surrounding it, it's easier to ignore (for me). So, to have 2 distinct cut outs within the display just makes it that much more distracting for me. I know not everyone agrees, but that's just my take on it.

Are you serious?
To be fair, lightning is still stuck in those slow ass USB 2.0 speeds. Not fast enough for someone who would want transfer and backup large files, especially ProRes videos. Which is another reason why people want USB-C, to give them that faster transfer speed.

If they're going to keep lightning this year, then at least they should improve it to USB 3.0 speeds.

So considering the current Face ID utilizes three modules: a dot projector, flood illuminator and an infrared camera. The new TrueDepth camera system looks like it only has 2 - so which module did they get rid of? And will it work just as well as the current system?

ahhh the good ole Chinese, they just cannot help themselves when it comes to confidential information, they have to leak it. Bad for Apple, good for customers who get a glimpse into iphones future.

A Pill and Hole is Dash Dot, which is the letter “N” in morse code. They should have used a Hole and Pill and made it Dot Dash, which is the letter “A”. So now we can all wonder what the “N” stands for since Apple always makes every minor detail deliberate.

It’s been there since a few betas ago. Where have you been? Doesn’t even require a 14 Pro Max!
What about the missing silent mode icon 🔕? Has Apple fixed it too? Did they add it to the status bar?
Can I finally be sure that I won't be missing calls anymore when I'm using iPhone as my primary phone?

I don't know if it's me or not but it's definitely going to take some time to get adjusted. The "i" shape pill hole is more noticeable from the notch. Just stare at it for 30 seconds without moving your eyes away. You will see. However, change is good.

Change is good? instead of a notch which blends in and is is tucked up at the very top, the alternative is to have take up the same amount of screen real estate but further down the screen creating an unusable area between the cameras and the bezel?

The best solution would be to replace FaceID with under-screen TouchID (same as S22) or the one embedded into the lock button (same as iPad mini/Air).

Great to see the wasted energy discussing a topic about an unchangeable situation. If the posters really want to get Apple's attention, use your wallet and buy something else.

The Ford Edsel was called an Oldsmobile sucking a lemon. The sales were poor and not that many were made. Ford discontinued that model.

If sales tank on the iPhone Pro 14, rest assured changes might even happen even in mid cycle.

The pill is more narrow and gives more room on each side for indicators.
Agreed, but so would a narrower notch. Which would look more on brand with Apple, since they are adding the notch to laptops.

SURELY this won't be the new design with a sideways i. That looks absolutely horrible. Why would they separate the pill and hole vs not just make a longer pill? That makes NO SENSE. Of course the new MBP's with that mega notch to house a front camera makes no sense either so maybe they're just ok with these bizarre designs now.
