The notch is less distracting for me, sorry. I support them minimizing the notch size, but the symmetrical shape that blends into the bezel is more pleasing to me.

Following Apple's announcement that it will hold an event on Wednesday, September 7, several alleged leaks coming out of Asia purport to show the iPhone 14 Pro's display cutouts and status bar items.

Twitter user "DuanRui" today shared several images from Chinese social media site Weibo, with one seemingly showing a close-up, real-world image of the iPhone 14 Pro's "pill and hole-punch" TrueDepth camera array cutouts that are expected to replace the notch.

For reference, Twitter leaker known as "Ice Universe" shared an image of the front of an iPhone 14 Pro dummy earlier today. In the image, the display cutouts are clearly artificial, which may make the above image much more believable.

At the same time, leaker "ShrimpApplePro" shared a segment of a screenshot allegedly from an iPhone 14 Pro Max, overlaid with an identical screenshot from an iPhone 13 Pro Max, to show how Apple is purportedly planning to enlarge and realign the status bar's items to account for the new "pill and hole-punch" TrueDepth camera array design.

Another alleged screenshot from ShrimpApplePro shows how the entire status bar is arranged on the iPhone 14 Pro Max, repositioning the cellular signal, Wi-Fi, and battery indicators slightly lower and to the right.

The standard iPhone 14 models are expected to retain the same notch used on the iPhone 13 linep, with the "pill and hole-punch" being one of the main selling points of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. The devices are also expected to feature the A16 chip, an always-on display, a 48-megapixel Wide camera, and more.

My best guess is that it will have, “the best selfie camera ever in an iPhone.”

The pill-hole thing will be part of the marketing to show the world that you have the better, different looking front camera. The average person will look at it and assume it is better because it looks different.

I don’t see the benefits of this pill-hole thingy, they could have maintain the notch of 13 then totally removed on the 15. What will happen to the notifications? Are they placing the signal logo on top of the pill-hole? still interesting

When have you run across an app where the notch covers up any buttons? Apps do not use the notch area by default. When they ask the OS for their drawable area, it tells them the area beneath the notch. Apps need to register themselves and specifically ask for the full screen area. After that it is up to them to draw something in that area or not.

Some people naively assume when they first see the notch that it will cover up parts of apps and that Apple never thought of that. Neither of those things are true.
I don't think buttons, but on the game Egg, Inc, when the notch came for the first time, it covered info at the top.

I can hear the design discussion

We can shrink the notch by 50%

No, no notch this year

Yeah but the double punch hole takes more space and is more distracting

Higher ups said no notch

Right but we can combine the two holes, it will look cleaner

Nope looks like a notch

Yeah but now we have a lower case i on the screen

Yup but it isn’ta notch

"… the 'pill and hole-punch' being one of the main selling points of the ‌iPhone 14 Pro‌ and ‌iPhone 14 Pro‌ Max." Hmm. I don't sweat the much-maligned notch or the capsule-shaped cutout like many folks, so this is really hard to imagine.

Now that are all used to the notch this seems more distracting. There isn't really any useful screen real estate gained by this. At least the notch gave a continuous unbroken edge to your display. ( still hate the notch BTW but used to it)

The top of the screen now has the letter “N” in morse code, as in, “Not gonna get rid of this screen crap yet!” But no doubt the faithful fan club members will proclaim how wonderful it is. But then again, Apple could paint a turd gold and they would line up to buy it! To each their own, but I think it still looks butt ugly. But of course this could be just another fake image…

Really don't like it. Sure, we'll all get used to it, but the "i" shape is just bizarre. Also the pill and hole are substantially "thicker" than seen in previous mockups, magnifying the bizarreness of the shape. It looks asymmetrical. I'd rather they connected the pill and hole.

Most of the time you’re correct, but it’s not absolute. I’ve experienced issues with controls being covered by the notch. Typically in games.

Yawn! Nothing to see here! Bring on the iPhone Pro Max 16 & 18 and ditch the notch & I pill for a full screen.

Why do people get excited about iPhones? Really nothing much has changed in years now, with incremental changes.

This getting rid of the notch for the punch holes, is really just marketing to show a 'new design' but really we all know it isnt.

Because I'm not jaded.

That's how it works with almost every brand. The OS changes while the phones get iterative updates, and occasionally there is a major design change.

Meanwhile I'm upgrading from an XR so four years of iterative updates are a substantial upgrade for me.
