Does this mean we're also likely to see a new Magic Trackpad (with force touch)?

Exciting! Though what I'd really love is new 15" MacBook Pros. I guess I'll just have to be patient.

Our 15" MBP is from 2008, so finally looking to replace it this year. Without taking this too off topic, it will be interesting to see what happens with that come the summer. As they now do the Air, the new Macbook, and the MBP, I had thought maybe the MBP might get a redesign to slim it down more in line with the MBA. but since they updated the 13" but not the 15" now, I can't imagine them redesigning the 15" MBP, as that would mean four different styles of laptop.

A mouse is still better than a trackpad for moving the cursor around. I use my trackpad for scrolling and gestures.

Not really sure how that works out. A trackpad requires no space, just a swipe of a finger to move the cursor from point A to point B. A mouse requires space for the entire hand to push the mouse from point A to point B.

It would be neat if Apple would update their keyboard and mouse soon. I'd like them to add the new butterfly mechanism from the MacBook, but perhaps with more travel as absolute thinness is not a design requirement for an external keyboard. I'd also really enjoy a space gray version with black keys. A backlit keyboard would be icing on the cake, but not required. For the mouse, I'd like TouchID and Force Touch to be included. A top surface material that is similar to their trackpad would also be kinda neat, but not required. Space gray and black would also be nice for the mouse, as well as some tweaked ergonomics. The biggest downside I hear people say about the mouse is the ergonomics. It has never bothered me, but I see how it could be improved with an increased ridge. The design challenge then, however, is incorporating the touch surface into a more curved design. Even a little tweak would help some people.

Hate all devices with batteries as the batteries eventually have to go into the trash/environment. (I know iPhone, I pad etc. have batteries, but I try to minimize battery into waste exposures)

Even the trackpad uses too many batteries too fast and I checked if I can find a cabled version (Saw some home made, it's possible)

The numeric issue has been mentioned by many here, so maybe Apple can find a clever way to combine the trackpad with numeric keys? With force click the tracking section to do so could be very small.

For trackpad like that I'd still use batteries.

Invest in a couple sets of rechargable ones, like Eneloops.

Well, force touch would be nice. I tried it at the Apple Store this weekend on the new Macbook Pro, and at the risk of sounding like some rabid fanboi, this thing surprized me in ways Apple hasn't done in a long while.

I went out of my way to turn off the computer to make sure the thing doesn't move. The feedback it gives is utterly convincing. It's rare when I can know a thing (this doesn't move) and yet the experience is entirely contrary. I never thought much of haptic feedback, having only experienced it in things like the Blackberry Storm a million years ago. But this... this is really impressive. I want whatever new capabilities this technology enables brought to my iMac.

The keyboard... meh. I honestly still like my Cherry MX keys. Feels like I'm a 'real' writer. :p

that's true. i'd still like to have a real click :X i mean, there's enough space for it to move and i think that's cheaper to build. But the pressure sensitivity could be interesting.

There's a lot of other people saying this "may" be because its an international layout.

But I'm going to say it, anyway, because I can do so definitively: That's an international keyboard layout. Return is like that on most international keyboards and yes, it certainly does suck.
In fact, lets just finish this off with the following

Apple(TM) Keyboard layouts are demonstrated and defined in the following article:
https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201794

You have, clearly visualised, the US / UK / International layouts. And you can clearly see the difference on the return key. We can also clearly see that the regions where this article's news information comes from, uses the layout shown in this news article's image.

And you can now, just as before, specify which layout you require when ordering.

I want the Magic Trackpad to have Force Touch and Taptic.

This is probably going to happen soon. To get developer adoption they need a way to test force touch without buying a new laptop, especially when developers are more likely to use big laptops and desktops.

I've been hoping for a wireless backlit keyboard for years. Even to the point of buying MBP keys, thinnest LED lights i could find and an extra keyboard to see if i could make my own. No luck though, the keys were different and couldn't be replaced as easy as I would have liked.

Why not just look at Logitech? They've had one for a few years, now, which is excellent.

What about one with a number pad? What is the matter with Apple these days?

Wireless. Back light. Numberpad. Not rocket science Apple.

Space doesn't matter, I've got a huge desktop with 2 monitors.

The trackpad takes up a lot of space - it's 5 inches x 5 inches. The mouse is a lot smaller, but still, I only move it a few inches each direction.

It seems more natural and precise to me to move the cursor with the mouse. But I love using the scrolling and gestures with my trackpad as well. I get the best of both worlds using both.

excellent!

would love if they had one with a magic trackpad.

Recently, my MBA screen broke. SO i've been using it as a HTPC for my TV. I needed a wireless keyboard / mouse combinationfor it and I picked up a Logitech keyboard and trackpad all in one.

I regret it.

its terrible. th keys are tiny and suck. they have no responsiveness. The trackpad is inconsistent and feels like it was on a laptop from the 90's. it scrolling is inconsistent and gestures are near impossible to use at all.

Woord of advice

do NOT EVER BUY THIS KEYBOARD!

Sigh... For a moment I thought they finally had a wireless keyboard with backlight (like Logitech have had for years).

But it looks like it's just keys to control the computer's brightness. :( Bummer

Obviously the keys would need to be white on black instead of black on white to make this work so I'm sure it doesn't have it.

It would probably bother you if you've grown up using those gigantic American return keys :p but it's not a problem if it's all you have ever known. :D
They are not all gigantic, although yes, some are. The real issue is it is a different location. Difficult to switch keyboards with that kind of change. We have similar issues with the Backspace key on some keyboards, different location makes it hard to use.

Wouldn't dimly lit white keys be almost impossible to read in most lighting conditions, even dark room just lit by the monitor?

Just get the logitech K811. I have had it for about 9 months now and LOVE it. Backlit, can easily switch to my iPad with the push of a button.

I know right?! What the hell. I just don't get their logic. The white gets dirty and in general just doesn't fit with aluminum and black Macs.

Ummm... the black keys get just as dirty: you just can't tell!

The white forces all of you nasty people to clean your keyboards more often: which I appreciate!

Nothing worse than going over to a coworker's computer to help them with something and having to touch their dingy, nasty, encrusted keyboard.... gross!

;-)

There will be no backlight. A backlight would just not work along with the white keys.
I personally prefer white keys over black ones.

lit keys don't necessarily assist with typing accuracy. Especially if you're a touch typer.

What they do assist with is placement of the keys and items. if you can't even make out where the keys are, in a dark room, ti's hard to get started with typing. backlit keys just help with object recognition and let you get started with hand placement easier.

No - those new dimmer keys (on F5 and F6) ARE for a backlight. The monitor brightness is controlled by the brightness keys on F1 and F2...

So: this keyboard SHOULD have a backlight!
