Okay ... when will we see black keys? C'mon Apple ... your computers are becomming silver, dark grey, black and gold, but the desktop keyboards have still white buttons?

Johny Ive, shame on you!

My hope is that Apple moves to all white keys across their lineup. Black is cool, but white is so much easier to read.

Awesome, working in a dim room (best for photo retouching) without a backlight in the keyboard sucks. I just wonder how much faster it will drain the battery this way.

It looks so small. Is it hard to press?

I'd imagine that a user of each layout would say theirs is easier, just because it affects how they learn to type.

For me, I'd imagine that the U.S. one is harder to hit as ours takes two vertical keys as opposed to two horizontal, and I'm just used to hitting the edge of the keyboard in that rough area to type a return.

That return key looks awful though.

There's a lot of other people saying this "may" be because its an international layout.

But I'm going to say it, anyway, because I can do so definitively: That's an international keyboard layout. Return is like that on most international keyboards and yes, it certainly does suck.

But return will not be like that on US keyboard.

The two vertical vs horizontal is an interesting point.

I don't know, my family thinks I'm just a nerd, but I find things like regional keyboard difference interesting.

Disagree. I prefer the dark keys, as well. I'm not against white keys. They just get dirty-looking more quickly. :p

Not something anything there to disagree with; white is easier for vision impaired. Apple optimizes for simplicity, clarity and readability… even in software now. They may or may not change them, but black hey caps are an deviation from Apple's design aesthetic.

Perhaps the power button is for the lights on the keyboard itself. Then it could save power when used in a lighted area where the backlight isn't needed.

<yawn> I'm still mystified that Apple prides itself on being innovative and has such strong products yet the crappiest keyboard (imho that is! :)

I wish they had an ergonomic keyboard like the Microsoft natural.

Our wrists don't sit naturally board straight like you need to set them in order to use an Apple keyboard. It's blown me away since day 1 when I start using a Mac. Ridiculous.

I should clarify that I do value the thinness and the tactile feel of the keys (plus the colours), but honestly, no ergonomics is a mind blower (again, imho...others may disagree lol

I, too, wish that Apple would release a split/ergonomic keyboard. Straight keyboards are so bad for the wrists.

Apple seriously needs to consider producing a full size wireless keyboard with numeric pad. Consumers have been asking for one for years. If they are refreshing the design, why not add this?

Because that would require it having different innards than the MacBook Pro and thus wouldn't scale profits like the current one does.

I guess they could do it "right" and just make a wireless version of the wired full-size keyboard, but that would make it "too big" for Mr. Ive to handle.

Also the keyboard in the original post? It is missing the backslash (thus missing the pipe). I won't spend a dime for a US-version of the pictured keyboard... (I wonder though, could this mean the end of the console?)

My bet is, it's only for controlling your Macbook's keyboard backlight.

But it's a great opportunity to sell a product we all already have. Backlight and butterfly keys. And Magic Mouse with force touch and Touch ID

Does this mean we're also likely to see a new Magic Trackpad (with force touch)?

Exciting! Though what I'd really love is new 15" MacBook Pros. I guess I'll just have to be patient.

Needs Touch ID.

Seriously, I thought they would have included that in the new MacBook. I hate typing in passwords. I guess they figure if you're going to use the Mac then you're probably going to type anyway so why bother. Occassionally, though, all you want to do is mouse around.

Backlight keyboard would be awesome. I would worry about the battery life a little though, I doubt two AA batteries would sustain a backlight system for very long.

I agree that trackpad + gestures is where it's at....

but I still use a mouse. A mouse is still better than a trackpad for moving the cursor around. I use my trackpad for scrolling and gestures.

I loved the trackpad until it gave me tennis elbow. Now I have Wacom Tablet and stylus which I love. Although I still use the trackpad with my left hand for some of the gestures. The combination of the two is fantastic.

Could be tempted by the new keyboard if its backlit, and has the new keys from the Macbook. (Subject to trying them out and them actually seeming any better)

Perhaps the power button is for the lights on the keyboard itself. Then it could save power when used in a lighted area where the backlight isn't needed.

It would be so wrong for the Power key to be placed there to control the keyboard itself. The side power button is so much more creative, and can't be hit by accident.

Hate all devices with batteries as the batteries eventually have to go into the trash/environment. (I know iPhone, I pad etc. have batteries, but I try to minimize battery into waste exposures)

Even the trackpad uses too many batteries too fast and I checked if I can find a cabled version (Saw some home made, it's possible)

The numeric issue has been mentioned by many here, so maybe Apple can find a clever way to combine the trackpad with numeric keys? With force click the tracking section to do so could be very small.

For trackpad like that I'd still use batteries.
