Yes...but here's the thing. While I really hate the MB keyboard - and I've tried it out many many many times at the store and for more than just a couple minutes - yes, I MAY get used to it after a while. But I also own an iMac with a Magic Keyboard, my main work machine at home. Switching back and forth between such vastly different keyboards does not help at all with adaptability. And that's really one of the reasons why I don't get why Apple is doing this, either way...why didn't they adapt that keyboard style in the Magic keyboard if they were planning on having it in all their Macbooks all along.

It's just a usability nightmare

Because there is no direction at Apple anymore.

Because there is no direction at Apple anymore.

It's like they assume no-one has more than one mac. And they prefer people using iPads, anyway... I mean, that MB butterfly keyboard is pretty much like typing on an iPad screen ... awful for long, fast, extensive, blind typing.

Find it funny that people are calling this a screw up. Apple leaked this to manage expectations, like they always do.

Because there's so much they could still change until Thursday....

Many people are disappointed, now, that they already know. The suspense is gone. I mean, it's really no news, at all, those exact rumors haven been around since the spring. Yet, there's a difference between a rumor and a confirmation. The whole event seems kinda redundant, now.

They will piss developers off at their peril. No one is writing apps on iPads. Someone in Cupertino must realise this?

I'm not gonna by an Apple computer without retina, anymore.

First you are assuming the new MBA is not retina, it has the same old keyboard, keeps the USB ports and Magsafe. You know what they say about people who "assume" too much!

As far as your "adaptability" goes, why is it so many, myself included, have had zero problems with using both the old and new keyboards?

I just think you're here to complain about things you have no control over and the release of the 2016 MBP is your relief.

Looking forward to the announcement - but I do have a few reservations about the removal of still commonplace I/O's.

I mean, removing old legacy I/O like Gigabit Ethernet and FireWire as time has gone on seemed liked a no brainer, as Mac computers got slimmer and faster technologies overtook them. But removing standard I/O's which are commonplace like HDMI and SD seems a bit premature.

Case in Point
- The latency when video editing and mirroring the display over AirPlay is just not as fast as HDMI.
- Having an SD card slot makes it super easy to ingest footage from DSLR cameras, foregoing the use of a USB adapter.

Also, can anyone share any insight into the benefit of USB-C? It's great, a next step forward in I/O, but it seems like rather than going forward, we've gone three steps backward by having to use an adapter for all the I/O's we have lost in the process of designing a newer Mac.

And as for the OLED Magic Bar - Nice, it looks suped! But that 'Cancel' button is not centered ><

No HDMI or SD slot and this piece of **** is still branded as a "Pro" machine?

****ing eh, I guess Apple must make a ton of revenue selling USB-C adapters for every single function that used to be built in.

SD slot on a 2000-3000$ "Pro" laptop? **** that, thats another 30$ adapter we can sell! HDMI output? Another 30$ adapter!

At this point why don't they just make some weird proprietary port that you have to adapt to USB-C and then adapt the USB-C to additional ports?

I can picture a MacBook "Pro" with a half dozen adapters trailing out of it like some kind of demented electronic squid.
"It just works"**

**Adapter sold separately.
this is confirmed though is it? ports still could be on here?

Cool.

- @ just noticed the butterfly keyboard. Good luck pro-folks with not being able to type normally.

Technically, the butterfly mechanism refers to the steadier, shallow-travel hinge that supports the keys. All we can tell from this picture is that the new MacBook Pro has the wider keycaps with less empty space between them. It's unclear whether it will be shallow-travel or not.

It's entirely possible that the new MBP will features wider & steadier keys but retain a deeper travel than the 2015 MacBook design.

Meh, I am probably going to be more interested in the Air Refresh. Not particularly crazy about the strip.
What if the whole keyboard is like the strip? I mean. Come on. Most people use a phone/tablet without real feedback for key presses,. and since we know that Apple has the 'courage' to remove stuff...

My hubby isn't even a developer, just a normal consumer, and at the moment he's debating whether to get an iPad pro with smart cover or a MB for light writing. He's heavily leaning towards the MB...despite being an avid iPad user in his off-time.

I can't >work< on my iPad, it's purely for entertainment (watching movies when travelling and light reading (papers).

But I guess Apple assumed that people who own an iMac have an iPad for on the go and people who have an MB(A/P) don't have the need for another mac, such as iMac...hence the many discrepancies among macs (i.e. keyboard).

Well, guess what dear Apple, especially Pro users want big screen estate and as much power as they can get and afford(!!!) at home (iMac), but still need power on the go to continue actually >working<.

I agree, someone surely must get that.

Way to hang in there. I'm excited for your future purchase.

Which should be a 2015 macbook pro. Since it won't have excessive thinness-induced thermal throttling, a wonky keyboard, the loss of all the convenient ports (magsafe, etc) and the bugginess that's the result of a product line that gets 12-percent of Apples attention, since it's NOW 12-percent of their business.

So glad to see this! I always felt they looked like knock-offs without it.

Yet I'm switching to an iMac this time... I'm sure the Wireless Magic Keyboard will see an update soon.

Contrariwise, I find the branding distracting.

Switching to iMac is a great choice. I love the bigger screen. I was contemplating to switch from my MBP too, although I don't think I'm ready to give up freedom of portability just yet.

I'm sure the Wireless Magic Keyboard will see an update soon.

Wireless Magic Keyboard as well as Magic Trackpad 2. Hoping against hoping, it'd be amazing if they were to include the said Magic Toolbar with either of these. Touch ID can be really handy, and it will also make the new features backward compatible with a lot of older Macs.

Nope, look at the lighting/shadows. Those keys look exactly like the keys on the MB. I'd be REALLY surprised if they had more travel.

Most consumers.

I do not want to write my dissertation on a screen-keyboard. Never. I hardly write even emails.
