I'm sad that they went back to the "MacBook Pro" text. It looked cleaner before, like an iPhone.

Also, that keyboard looks suspiciously thin. I'm getting anxiety just looking at it.
They were always going to do it so that it matched the new MacBook design language. I like the look of the new front style (aren't a fan of the MBA front or the old MBP front), but it's not as clean.

Exciting!

Funny story - me to a friend asking about the new MacBooks a few days ago: "I think it'll have a thin display atop the keyboard with Touch ID, speakers down the sides, and the MacBook Pro text will return."

Not groundbreaking predictions for us MacRumors lot, but said friend now thinks I'm psychic! :D

Looking forward to the announcement - but I do have a few reservations about the removal of still commonplace I/O's.

I mean, removing old legacy I/O like Gigabit Ethernet and FireWire as time has gone on seemed liked a no brainer, as Mac computers got slimmer and faster technologies overtook them. But removing standard I/O's which are commonplace like HDMI and SD seems a bit premature.

Case in Point
- The latency when video editing and mirroring the display over AirPlay is just not as fast as HDMI.
- Having an SD card slot makes it super easy to ingest footage from DSLR cameras, foregoing the use of a USB adapter.

Also, can anyone share any insight into the benefit of USB-C? It's great, a next step forward in I/O, but it seems like rather than going forward, we've gone three steps backward by having to use an adapter for all the I/O's we have lost in the process of designing a newer Mac.

And as for the OLED Magic Bar - Nice, it looks suped! But that 'Cancel' button is not centered ><
Surely you remember that Balmer bit where he's shouting "Developers, Developers, Developers" like a mad parrot? I bet good old Tim sat at the last major meeting and shouted from his end, "Dongles, Dongles, Dongles!" and that's why Apple has gotten rid of those ports in addition to the finer points I made on the page previous to your post's.

so you're telling me you ALWAYS change brightness while doing something else at the EXACT SAME TIME?

You're making scenarios up for the sake of complaining about 'reduced functionality'. Please, keep it real, people.
It's not the operations assigned by Apple to the function keys, it's the function keys themselves which have purposes in many applications as well as games. The lack of tactile feedback is the downside to those who use them a lot.

I use the butterfly keys on the Magic Keyboard, or whatever the current Bluetooth model is. I use it every day. There is nothing wrong with it. Works for me. Oh, I'm a "Pro" too. So I guess Apple does give a damn?
The Magic Keyboard doesn't use the butterfly keys, it uses a refined scissor mechanism and the steel dome switches. It has more travel compared to the butterfly keyboard and it is less of a difference - I would say it's the middle ground between the two (the stability and larger keys of the new keyboard, and the travel of the old one).

Having said that, I don't mind the scissor mechanism although it takes time to get used to.

Nope, look at the lighting/shadows. Those keys look exactly like the keys on the MB. I'd be REALLY surprised if they had more travel.
You can't possibly make a claim like this from the leaked images.

Please wait until the first-hand impressions from the media on Thursday (or possibly even Apple's own claims about the keyboard during the event) before you go on this tirade against the keyboard.

Apologies if it's already been said (I searched the thread and couldn't find a mention) but interestingly the date on the mockup Apple Pay transaction is July 17.

It's normally the case that Apple picks a date for use in marketing images that is close to the product launch date.

Is this evidence that this was indeed meant to ship in the summer and was delayed?

Interesting catch, wouldn't surprise me - mockups are generally all completed with the launch (Or close to) dates.

They might have slightly (fractions of a mm) more travel, but probably not.

July 17 is the same date the default Calendar icon has had for years. Could be they just decided to reuse it for this.

Also, Apple Pay is a new feature in Sierra. It's quite obvious a new MacBook Pro wasn't going to ship with what was then a pre-release OS.

It might. I can't find the picture now, but go back to it and see what product was being purchase and then look it up on another authorized vendor. See what the price there is and then see if you can find historic price data for that item. If it's not the same price on Apple's site, see if you can use archive.org to see if that page was cached during the summer.

The Magic Toolbar may be larger for the 15", although that could create problems with the difference in space for Toolbar application spaces.

Well...that is extremely underwhelming. Touch ID is nice, but the screen looks identical to the current model. Same bezel, likely same resolution. I was hoping for a smaller footprint or a larger display...but we get neither.

Also, I really hope they have improved switches in the butterfly keyboard that don't get stuck every other week like my current rMB.
Everyone is assuming this is the 13 inch. Maybe it's the 15 (double speakers was always exclusive to the 15) and it IS smaller by a lot. Though would love decent speakers on the 13

It's the 13". 100% positive.

If it were the 15" then it would have a hilariously huge keyboard.

No, I can tell you with 100% confidence, that the image depicts the 13" inch model. Both models will have visible speaker grills either side of the keyboard.

Don't you dare to make me excited about something that might not happen!

Damn, too late.

14"

I made the assumption that the dimensions of each key is the same as in the rMB. I then used the known screen width of the rMB to calculate width of each key. I then used that to get the screen width of the leaked images. I measure 309 mm, which is within error of 314 mm in the current 13' rMBP. Assuming the aspect ratio is unchanged, the leaked pictures depict the 13' MBP.

With TouchID confirmed it would mean there must be a secure enclave in the macbook pro. Can this exist on its own or does it need to be part of an ARM chip - anyone know?
