Exactly! You just have to accept less functionality than previous MacBooks. Much like with iPhone 7's headphone situation.

so you're telling me you ALWAYS change brightness while doing something else at the EXACT SAME TIME?

You're making scenarios up for the sake of complaining about 'reduced functionality'. Please, keep it real, people.

To those bemoaning the loss of the esc key and the standard volume/brightness controls:

I would bet that those things will appear if you hold the fn key. (They're keeping it, after all, and it has to be good for something.)

I keep gazing upon its beauty..

The Magic Toolbar will be a fail... because it can't work without developer support... and what website or app developer is going to create an additional version of their website/app to cater for a small percentage of high-end Macs?

I believe that Apple should spend their time working to improve their excellent (but under-featured) iCloud suite of apps... and demolishing and rebuilding their appalling desktop apps for the Mac... starting with Mail.

I wanted this kind of keyboard in the 1990s (it was feasible then...) to make games like X-Wing and other sims more playable. I wonder if Apple would allow third party use. But also, with only one model having it, not much chance of it being a meaningful part of any third party apps anyway.

Pretty sure the Esc key is going to appear in a situation where it's needed. The whole point of the toolbar is to give you the options necessary for that application at your finger tips, plus additional functions like  Pay or others that haven't yet been unveiled. The days of adding additional keys for tasks that don't apply in all apps, such as F Keys is a thing of the past. Esc will be in the top left corner when you need it to be.

Although I'm excited, and upgrading regardless, I'm kind of bummed that the hdmi is rumored to be gone. I have a 2010 MBP and somehow missed the entire life cycle of it directly built in on a pro. Guess I'll add another dongle to the list since my video port to hdmi will be obsolete.

Doing some measuring in pixelmator it looks like it could be a 14" screen. The 15" would turn into a 16". I suspect the Airs may then be replaced by a 12" rMBP which would basically be the retina MacBook with ports. That would explain A1706, A1707 and A1708 — 12", 14", 16"
Don't you dare to make me excited about something that might not happen!

Damn, too late.

I'm sad that they went back to the "MacBook Pro" text. It looked cleaner before, like an iPhone.

Also, that keyboard looks suspiciously thin. I'm getting anxiety just looking at it.

I agree. I mean, I get that they want to have consistency with the Retina MacBook and MacBook Air's design, but still, I liked the fact that it didn't display its name.

Oh well: I guess I'm going to have to get used to it.

"based on past part leaks, we're expecting four USB-C ports and a headphone jack, with the HDMI port, MagSafe port, and SD card slot being eliminated."

…and what of thunderbolt, is it Schrodinger's port?
Thunderbolt 3 uses the Type-C port. It can be confusing when describing it. Although I would argue to simply call the port "Thunderbolt 3" - Nobody called it a DisplayPort connector when Thunderbolt used that for versions 1 and 2.

What's interesting to me is if they were able to embed a fingerprint reader into or under the OLED strip here, that may mean they could also do it with an iPhone or iPad.

If they do just claim on your years warran

well Ming did say a separate processor will drive the OLED bar
With the standard Apple year warranty ? Do you think they would charge for the upgrade and has it been done before?

Glad to get last year's MBA last week for $921 (tax included). I need my two USB-A. Look at iPhone 7 users hating the dongle. Eventually we all adjust but not now. I need the SD slot and MagSafe more than a Magic Toolbar. Also kinda forgetting it has HDMI. In case my Blu-ray player stops working, I have another device to put on top of it to play my external hard drive or watch YouTube on a bigger screen.

These type of cycles happens with with almost anything. People will be excited for it. They are denial in some of the flaws because they want something new to spend money on. Obviously, 3-4 years is a long time. But after awhile, they either adjust accepting all the missing ports and will use dongles or they revert back to their older one.

Won't really bother with MBP. Rather get iMac and then MBA for battery life and light portability.

I can see Pages, Keynote, Numbers, iMovie, iPhoto, iTunes, and other apps supporting this touch panel too. It would be nice if Apple sells a keyboard that you can use with the desktop Macs and it isn't a MacBook Pro exclusive.
This issue with that would be the battery life. Having said that, they could easily fit over 5X the capacity in the current keyboard, and the wired keyboard is in need of a refresh.

Does anyone know the file location where the image was found? (Rough location to start digging would be helpful)

I recently tested the rMB keyboard at an Apple Store, and while I didn't like it, I wasn't convinced that I couldn't adapt to it and eventually prefer it. However, I'll need more testing time to be sure.

I seemed to experience hard impact on my fingers when using it. But again, maybe I can adjust and it won't turn out to be a carpal tunnel nightmare.

Once I realized I could just lightly tap on it, like an iPhone, I was whizzing. Just took a few minutes to click. Then I was in. I love it because my fingers don't pound on the keyboard as much now, and I have fewer signs of carpal tunnel as a result.
