Look at your screen, now look at the functions keys, now look a the screen, now look at the function keys, repeat. See, is not helpful to have to focus outside the screen. It hurt my eyes. D*mn Apple courage!

Exactly. But hey, 90% of mac usrs just buy it because it has the apple logo, so they can bring it to the coffee shop and it has the apple logo. that 90% of mac users will love this gimmick, for spotify etc...

Jay Fullmer, 38, yesterday became the first American to get to grips with the concept of irony. "It was weird" Fullmer said. "I was in London and, like, talking to this guy and it was raining and he pulled a face and said, "great weather eh?" and I thought "Wait a minute, no way is it great weather".

Fullmer then realised that the other man's 'mistake' was in fact deliberate.

Fullmer, who is 39 next month and married with two children, aged 8 and 3, plans to use irony himself in future.

"I'm, like, using it all the time." he said. "Last weekend I was grilling steaks and I burned them to a crisp and I said "hey, great weather"

I think the biggest concern I have is with the ports on the new MBP*. I went back to a Windows laptop due to academic requirements and was pleasantly happy to actually be able to use ports WITHOUT adapters.

*assuming they are all USB-C

With TouchID confirmed it would mean there must be a secure enclave in the macbook pro. Can this exist on its own or does it need to be part of an ARM chip - anyone know?

Maybe Apple will finally implement TPM's in their computers...

I'm still limping along on my '08 MBP so this may finally be the time to upgrade. Hopefully they revive the 17"... they seem to be making everything else with a larger screen nowadays.

I think it's a dumb waste of time brought to you by the company that now considers watch straps and Emoji's as 'innovation'

meanwhile in the working world I'm glad that my 2013 MacBook Pro still has an HDMI port two USB ports normal MagSafe and some thunderbolt ports... I just wish I could get 16 GB for it.

Courageous? My ark.
Yeah, the current MacBook Pros are amazing when it comes to ports. I think the Magic Toolbar will be cool but will end up being a gimmick, or not.

Ain't ports great?

From my working world, I'm looking forward to seeing how each piece of software will utilize the MT's programmable space. Unlike you, I see lots of potential.

I would like to see Apple focus more effort innovating in the PC area. They are consistently behind current hardware especially for pro users. Eliminating ports makes more sense for a mobile device, but for a laptop many still rely on standard ports (ethernet, usb2.0/3.0, headphone, sd). The effort they put into mobile computing a decade ago is what brought many to the apple brand. It seems like much more effort has been put into prosumer markets like Apple Watch than has been put into innovating in traditional computing. I for one would like to see a hybrid os for devices like the iPad Pro that would allow root control/ terminal commands etc.

Why are people complaining about the escape key. I didn't even know macs had an escape key. I had to take a look at my Mac and was surprised to see one.

Btw I've been using Macs since 09.

The only thing I'm worried about is the lack of ports, cause Ill most likely buy the 128gb model but have an external hard drive for additional storage. Not sure how I feel about buying an additional adapter for my USB 3 devices.

Some people, including me, hit escape hundreds of times a day. Mostly people who use the vi text editor a lot. Not having an escape key renders the otherwise excellent smart keyboard for the ipad a bit annoying (there are alternative key sequences but years of muscle memory count for a lot). I suspect the virtual escape key would irritate me quite a bit, at least until i got used to it.

Thread jumping to conclusions again about the functionality of what we've only seen so far as a blank black strip and a strip that will likely be taken up entirely for transactions as a way to alert the user to activate TouchID. We have absolutely no working knowledge of how it's actually going to operate on a daily basis, yet people are still claiming to boycott. Makes sense. Such dramatics lol.

Technically, the butterfly mechanism refers to the steadier, shallow-travel hinge that supports the keys. All we can tell from this picture is that the new MacBook Pro has the wider keycaps with less empty space between them. It's unclear whether it will be shallow-travel or not.

It's entirely possible that the new MBP will features wider & steadier keys but retain a deeper travel than the 2015 MacBook design.

Nope, look at the lighting/shadows. Those keys look exactly like the keys on the MB. I'd be REALLY surprised if they had more travel.

You can't possibly make a claim like this from the leaked images.

Please wait until the first-hand impressions from the media on Thursday (or possibly even Apple's own claims about the keyboard during the event) before you go on this tirade against the keyboard.

I wouldn't expect the keyboard to be any better than the MacBook .The butterfly mechanism doesn't actually allow for deeper travel..

I think my favorite was

thermally crippled

Which can be discerned from a picture. No details about the fan design or layout required. No benefit from going to a smaller CPU process. I saw a picture of a case so I can tell it's "thermally crippled"

Apologies if it's already been said (I searched the thread and couldn't find a mention) but interestingly the date on the mockup Apple Pay transaction is July 17.

It's normally the case that Apple picks a date for use in marketing images that is close to the product launch date.

Is this evidence that this was indeed meant to ship in the summer and was delayed?

Dunno but the math on that invoice doesn't add up.
