Well I hadn't seen any content disappearing, just a new error with port 3689 that I hadn't encountered before. A router reboot cleared that up, but really Apple look like amateurs with the ATV. Such a great device but too many problems.

1080 switching problem - has this been address in 3.0.1 as well?

Hi all,

there is a switching issue with 1080 in ATV 3.0. When in 1080i, change the TV's input to something for 30 secs and the try and change back to the ATV. It stop responding, only way I found for now to work round is to change to 720.
anyone try this with 3.0.1 before I update? or I can give it a go if you like.

yeah because slower cpus and ram in mac hardware is obviously superior

That's EXACTLY why Apple is so successful now...Windows users infesting this forum have absolutely no CLUE as to how a computer should work, and why the Mac user experience is so superior...so they stick to their obsolete mantras of "my box has better specs than yours" without understanding that 99% of the market will never worry about it.

Not to mention that, of course, Macintosh CPU speeds and RAM are ALWAYS at the top of the gamut, instead of the stupid FUD that people seem to spread here...go check any ads on basic and mid-range PCs and you will NEVER find them at the same level of Macs.

Unless you find RF receivers, floppy drives and Blu-Ray players essential, bien sûr.

As for the calculator being "buggy" with the example provided, gimme a break...I have more important things to do in my life instead of researching wikipedia for arcane problems with SL.

I repeat: in my daily operations, NO PROBLEM has occurred with SL, a ROCK-SOLID OS that has no competitors out there.

And the Apple TV issue is absolutely minor when the disturbance concerns only the time taken for syncing a content that already exists on iTunes.

Again, Winblows fanboys: go defend Rob Enderle elsewhere and leave us alone.

Ya I have to say this is a little unsettling. I'm glad they are fixing it quick in this case, not so quick with guest accounts on OS X, but these kinds of mistakes should NOT be happening PERIOD!

I'm one of Apples strongest supporters but you do start to wonder whether they are being as rigorous as they could be before releasing some of these.

Hopefully they can get this sorted.

Maybe I Don't

Compensation? What do you want, a free tub of popcorn? It's not the end of the world...

If it took you 27 hours to resync two AppleTVs, then it sounds like you have a problem with your network.

Well I have one of those Dual Network Time Capsules. I know everything is set up right. But I was looking at stuff on the web about what could interfere with them. I found something on the compact CFC light bulbs saying they interfere with wireless networks. I have to lamps that use five bulbs (60W equivalents) each sitting on either side of my desk.

Needless to say I shut those off and restarted the sync. The new sync completed in 8 1/2 hours. Ooops :D

The day you release an operating system that is entirely bug-free is the day you get to complain about the team behind the entire product or company. Until then, you only get to complain about the product itself, their response time in fixing bugs, their customer service, and their support.

Crap like this happens to every company. Apple, Microsoft, Mozilla, Oracle, everyone, without exception. It's unfortunate when people lose data, but these products are developed by humans, and there will always be bugs, even when something seems to be working perfectly. There are bugs in every single product. The true measure of the company is whether they acknowledge and address the issue in a timely manner, whether they keep trying to improve.

And they have.

Rever received the email... Hmmm...

I don't use my ATV everyday so I haven't noticed things disappearing except that the mac that I sync it with didn't show it Friday. Updating...

Anyone complaining about Apple updates didn't live through the rancid updates from Microsoft in the Windows NT days. Some were so bad, deadly...

A bug in 3.01 now?

Watched a rented movie last night. When it was over I went to listen to some of my music.... It played, but with no audio - then I noticed the ATV navigation sounds were not there either. I went back and played a little bit of the rented movie and the audio came back... only after doing that could I listen to my music.

Pure s h i t Apple.

Come on.

^ That happened to me last night as well. I just had to play a movie then come back to the music and the audio was working.

With so many good and inexpensive media players/streamers nowadays why would anyone buy an AppleTV?

I bought a VGA cable and a stereo cable to connect my TV to my MacBook Pro, it's great and cheap and doesn't require syncing :)

But I think we will soon all have a huge screen for our computers (like the new iMacs) so we won't be needing separate TV sets anymore.

Data was on the atv, still, I think, not lost

This happened to me Saturday:

1) atv, when I woke it from screen saver mode (which was using my photos, not the stock ones), showed all of my content missing when I went to the home menu.
2) all of my content appeared missing suddenly, and it would not sync nor be recognized by my mac with the source files. so I pulled the plug and restarted from cold stop.
3) my stuff was instantly back when it re-started (no need to re-sync).
4) checked my email, coincidentally, and saw the notice from apple.

I point this out because in my experience I didn't need to resync, the data was there. atv just didn't know it.

I did the restart, did the update, then did another restart.

Stuff missing, play lists with 1 or 2 songs when I know there should be >100.

So iTunes shows the ATV. Shows it with zero space available. All space taken up by 'Other'. I do a Sync' and it jumps to over 75G of free space and then goes back to zero. Currently showing 'Zero' for free space and normal syncing taking seconds. Stuff still missing too...

Should I have to restore the ATV? Have others had to do that? Does it work?

Thanks...

I didn't have any problems.

In fact, I've never had problems with my Apple TV, and it's very close to full.

I'm surprised to hear that it has been buggy for people.

because it is a great inexpensive way to run XBMC and/or Boxee and thus unlock an unlimited amount of entertainment content - both local and over internet.

now, if/when boxee creates a hardware device, then i will consider switching...

Be aware of this update if you are a Boxee user. 3.01 will break Boxee once again.

yes, but launcher 3.2 beta 3 is in the works (released for testing) and supposedly fixes this - although i have not been able to get it to work personally just yet so i am not yet updating my other aTVs.

What about all the ion based net top boxes?
Super cheap and vdpau let's you play all media, any res/bitrate.

I think xbmc (for sure) and boxee are more likely to agree on a standard platform (not that it's really needed) rather than releasing their own hardware.
