I'm in line for 0800 in Fairfax,VA and they have lines for each reservation slot, way off from the queue for walk-ins. We've (6 so far) all been checked in and are waiting for 0800 to arrive. Looks like 5 or so separate lines for the running reservations, so, very organized here. Excellent!

There is also a queue of perhaps 50 (when I got here at 0710) in the walk-in line.

I'm at grand central NYC with an 8am. Got here at 740. About 100 people in front and there telling me it's first come first serve in reservation line regardless of your reservation time.

What BS! What's the point of giving out times if they're not going to honor them???

That's horrible. I work right across the street from Grand Central, and I have a 0900 appointment. Can't believe one of the most popular Apple Stores are so unorganized. I was hoping to pop in the store, pick up my phone and get back to work.

Hey are you at the Tysons or Fair Oaks Apple? Thanks for the heads up.

I'm in the uk. My appointment was for 9.15. I arrived just after 8.30. I expected just to check in and then be told to wait until it was time for my appointment. When I got in line there were about 4 people in front of me. They were all taken in within about a minute. I was at the front of the the queue and they asked me what time my appointment was. I said not until 9.15 but they said we'll see you now. I went in and was out with my phone by 8.30. There was only one guy behind me in the queue when I went in but I don't know what time his appointment was. I think if they are not busy they will just take people in the order they are in the queue. However maybe if my appointment had been for like 4 pm they might have sent me home.

Re: pickup time

What I had read somewhere was that you could come early for your pickup time, but not late. If you're late, the phone becomes available for sale to standby customers. What I imagine is they have groupings of phones for each 30 minutes window for the people with those reservation times. When a customer comes to get it, they pull it off the pile. I'd think they spread out the times to avoid a deluge of people at any given point, but also to be able to return phones to regular stock as no-shows start to accumulate.

Considering the number of people I read about on these forums who made 2-4 reservations for 1-2 phones, I'm glad they are not holding them indefinitely... not that I'll benefit (my reservation for 5:00 is eagerly anticipated) but I think it's a dick move to set aside more phones than needed when people will be turned away at some point today because the model they wanted isn't available to them (even though it might be sitting un-needed in a back room for someone's "Extra" reservation.)

I have a not much of a pleasant experience picking up my iPhone 6 plus on launch day there. Showed up at 6pm, waiting almost 2 hours for in-store pick up and was told they could not find my phone (ordered 2, but only one). Waited another hour or more for them to look for it and still no avail. Eventually they gave me another phone (the color I wanted was no longer available).

The store manager offered me 2 Apple cases in exchange for the time I spent there. Great customer service. Things happen all the time, and we all know that no matter how hard you try, expect the unexpected, especially on such occasion. Eventually got the phones and left there around 8:30pm. This year, I have them delivered the phones to my house. No more in-store pick up for me.

VERY impressed with the process of reserving an iPhone. I had a reservation for 8:30am. Arrived at 7:55 am, about 100 or so people lined up. They had a separate line for reservations which had about 10 people. At 8am they opened the store. They even pulled people out of the reservation line who had later appointments and put them on the side. I was in and out by 8:35. Will definitely do it this way next year.

I was at the apple store this morning, not much line as they are only taking reservations so there is no walk-ins. But I was told by a friend who works at the apple store and he told me that basically your phone is reserved for the entire day, and if you don't go pick up, it will reset after store closes and will be first come first serve for tomorrow.

Though I reserved the T-mobile model, I actually wanted the AT&T model and sadly they didn't have any in Space Gray. They did have one for 16 GB (who needs a 16 GB anyways), so I decided to pass on that. I did order the 6+128 GB AT&T SG online for 10/14-10/21 delivery. So I guess I'll be waiting for that to come to my work address :D

That gives me hope for possibly getting a rose fold 6 S Plus today. It's not likely but there's a little bit of hope.

I asked if I could upgrade my RG + from 64g to 128g and he said they had no extra RGs...of any type.

Los Angeles, CA-- Beverly Center.

Showed up early to wait in line for my 8:00am reservation. Only about 100 people in line as "walk ins". At 7:00am they asked who had a reservation and I was the only one! Waiting at the front of the reservation line with only a few people behind me and its 7:10am. MUCH better process this year!

I'm also at Grand Central and the same BS. The store is only asking if you have a reservation. They're not asking what time. I asked people in line and there are people ahead of me with 2-3pm reservations.

At Ardmore, they will only take people at their reserved times. I got there 45 minutes early and they told me to come back around 10-15 minutes before my scheduled time.

Totally the opposite of my experience. They were very strict and clear about people's times when I got mine. Similar amounts of people also to what you are seeing. Was very smooth and got in and out very quickly. There were some queueing behind me, whose reservation time were before mine. They were taken in ahead of me which was fair.

Ps, should say I am in the UK.
