So far nothing in NVA/MD. Reston is getting some in for display tonight, but that's it.

Fair oaks, tysons, bethesda row and montgomery mall all report nada and no info.

Here's my little update: Sent live from Apple Store Roseville Galleria.

Ten minutes ago I called and they said they had RMBPs and to come get one. They said they couldn't hold it. I got there and the first woman, (door greeter), told me they had none. She said they only had two and sold them first thing in the morning.

The 2nd woman told me not only did they not have any but they never did have any--not even a display model.

So, stories are getting twisted!

Wasted trip!

(It was worth a shot, though).

The only thing I don't like is the feeling that I've been lied to. If you don't have them, you don't have them. If you never did, you never did.

Maybe they're just confused.

They need to inform their employees.

I think you just ran into an uninformed employee.

Well I don't think it has been several hours. I watched the live blog and then read some comments and first impression and then I decided to buy it. If that already means that I need to wait 2-4 weeks cause tons of orders were crammed before me, then I don't see how Americans can complain about tough times.

How the hell can people just blind buy stuff 1 minute after the online store opened without even looking at the specs or opinions. And then complain about economy! Seriously what the hell is wrong with these people!

Ignorant comments. Just because the economy is bad, doesn't mean everyone stops buying stuff. The number of people in the market for a macbook is a minuscule number of Americans. Looking at buying habits of a niche market like this is not representational of the economy of a country.

Unemployment is very high, house values are down, investments are down. Economy in the USA (and Europe) is not great if you have been living under a rock and didn't know this.

my feelings exactly. Could not agree more sir!

Went to the Mac Store in Albuquerque New Mexico yesterday and they told me to come back today before 10 AM and they should have some.

I got there before 10 (9:30) and told an employee named "Matt" that I wanted the new MBP Retina. He told me there weren't any and he'd let me know if any came in.

I had a genius bar appointment at 11:15 so I sat to wait for that.

At about 10:30, I overheard an employee tell a customer they had sold 3 MBP Retinas earlier that day. I asked that employee what had happened and he said that he would check in the back for me if there were any more. I then saw Matt selling 2 MBP Retinas to a customer right behind me. I asked him about it and he told me that that guy had just come in and asked for them. I told Matt that I was sitting right there and he knew I wanted one. Based on body language it looked like Matt was very chummy with this customer. I told Matt I didn't appreciate that he was selling to someone that had just walked in (it was about 11 AM) when I had been waiting to see if I could get one since 9:30. He told me that things just happen and I didn't have to shop in the store. I told him he didn't have to work there if he can't help a customer out on a first come first served basis. I later talked to another employee who told me the other customer had "reserved" the MBPRs, and I pointed out to him they weren't available online for in store pickup so the only way he could have reserved them was with some sort of preferential treatment. He told me they don't have preferential treatment. I told him that whatever he wants to call it, that is what had happened.

So long story short I didn't get one even though I was there yesterday and the first one there today looking for one. I guess its just the way they do things in the ABQ store you have to know someone even though they won't admit it.

I'll be talking to the store manager but based on who I have talked to already they just will stone wall me anyways.

Worst experience I've ever had in an Apple Store. I should have just ordered online the moment they became available. Live and learn I guess.

Sorry to hear that. Must be annoying as hell. You could just start yelling really loudly about it and then maybe they'd take care of you to hush you up. I've heard of it done before in other situations. :p

That's pretty crappy. Sorry to hear that!

On top of everything, the Genius Bar ended up being an hour late. My computer does need a new mother board but I can't send it in because I didn't get my new computer and can't be without one for a week so I guess I need to put up with the frequent crashing for a while longer...

Oh well, maybe it will work out for the better and they will have the fully loaded one in stock later this week. It cost a lot more, but that is the one I really want, with the 768 GB SSD and 16 GB of RAM. Not sure if the 2.7 is worth it over the 2.6 but I'd probably do it just to have the top of the line.

Any one sighted the top of line models in stock in store?

Send an email to corporate and name the employees.

Is there a specific email address to use? Matt wouldn't tell me his last name LOL.

Did you ask to speak to a manager?

both apple stores near me said they will have display units but not for sale tomorrow morning. norfolk and richmond, va.

Went to the Apple store to investigate whether a retina display is truly noticeable and worth paying £400 more for it.

Well what a load of wasted time that was. Went to my local Apple store, and they didn't even have the new retina MBP on display never mind in stock. In fact, all their display models and models in stock were the old sandy bridge models. This Apple store being in the busiest shopping mall in the UK, pretty damn poor if say so myself.

Worst bit? They tried to pass it off as being new products. I was with my friend who was going to buy the 13" Air. They said it was the 'new' Air, he checked the specifications before buying and it still said HD3000 on the box so obviously they weren't. He picked them up on this and they insisted it was the new model as "only the Retina display MBP was updated". I wonder how many people they have potentially duped by what can only be seen as trying to clear what is now dead stock, do you really think 3 Apple employees were unaware that all the MacBooks got a spec bump? Hell, is what they claimed even legal?

Very poor show from Apple.

Edit: to be fair I can't remember ever having a good experience in my local Apple store. Most of the employees are arrogant and don't even know what they're trying to sell. Baffling how they got job considering Apple's pretentious retail recruitment policy. The best answer I've had was when I asked how much student discount was in store and if you still get the 3 year student warranty in store to get a sharp reply of "86% discount" asked again about the warranty, same thing regurgitated again "86% discount". Not only was this guy an obnoxious arsehole, he evidently can't do simple mathematics when I had to point out that I'd take a Macbook Pro for £139 then and realising his mistake and walking away from me.

If you specify the time and location, they could probably narrow it down themselves.

I've heard of people emailing tcook@apple.com :p

Sorry if this was already talked about but do the stores have them on display. (pref the SF stores) I dont want to buy one just play with it....

My Message to Tim Cook
Actually emailed to him.

(I figured poetry may be more effective). ::sarcasm::

Oh Apple
How I stalk thee

Please just hear
My plea

Your products are gorgeous
Your allure is so sweet

I'm so excited
I've begun to obsessively tweet

But dear sir
I've been feeling so low

I've not been able to find
The new Retina MacBook Pro

Hours I've toiled
And stores I've traversed

Your employees give answers
That sure seem rehearsed

Is it today?
Is it tomorrow?

When will I be able to
Get rid of this sorrow

Four years have I worked with
My previous MacBook

I need a new laptop
To continue my work

Just let us know when
Retinas will be in stores

You know what I'm feeling
... You already have yours :)

I really have no interest in driving to the Arden Fair store with a slim chance they might have them.

Ah! Arden is like 15 minutes from me. Did they say they "might" have some in? I work up in Roseville and was going to check the Galleria although I doubt I'll get lucky

I also have never had a particularly good experience, in my local Apple store (Leicester, UK) for pretty much the same reasons as above! Don't know about the rest of the world, but Apple Retail in the UK is an absolute shambles.

Customer service on the phone/online is excellent, but it would be considering its mainly based in the US and Ireland
