I'm almost positive student discounts don't come with an extended warranty if anything you get discounted AppleCare

I am curious to know as well! I am not sure where to find a MacBook Pro in our area. I will probably have to take a trip to the bigger city. Calling ahead of time will also be a good thing.

Is it not the case? I will be shocked if it's UK only, normally we draw the short straw!

I think it is just the UK - it dates back to a contract the UK HE Institutions put out for a computer supplier. One of the conditions of the contract was that the winner would have to provide 3 year warranties for university students and staff. Apple won the contract and so that's where it comes from - although the free warranty is only available online and by phone.

store in San Francisco

I'm trying the store in San Francisco since yesterday. They said they should receive tomorrow the mbp with retina display.

For education we got the long straw. Some of the US education discount is like $50 off a Macbook.

Doesn't change the fact it's probably still cheaper than our education discount prices..

Yeah 2-3 weeks blows. Still faster than I'll have it! I only put away £1250 assuming we would get a 13" retina display, so I'm currently £280 short at the moment, won't be able to get that until I start my vacation schemes/internship later this summer in late July/August. I have been tempted to borrow it off the parents and then pay it back after I get my vac scheme money. But I feel kinda ****** borrowing money off them for what can be argued to be gluttonous consumerism.

So I've been calling the two Apple stores that are close to my house all day asking if they've received the MacBook Pro Retina. No luck all day!

But then I decided to call an Apple Store that is pretty far from my house, and is also pretty tiny. Thinking they would say they didn't have any in stock, I was shocked to hear that they had a few!!!:eek:

So I went and picked it up.

The MacBook Pro Retina is phenomenal, the screen is truly gorgeous.

If you're still looking for one, I recommend calling as many Apple stores in the area.

You're very lucky.

Nice. Would you say the screen is a huge improvement? Worth spending another £300 on top for the screen alone? I tried to see for myself but my local Apple store didn't even have a display model..

I have to order online anyway, free 3 year warranty for UK students is just too great to sacrifice for the sake of 2-3 week waiting times. How long do you think it could be until it settles down to either 24 hours of 2-3 days? Anybody got any hunches? :D
