Called the North Point store in Alpharetta, GA, and they do not have them in stock, nor do they have any idea when they will be in stock. I have a business account with them, and the business sales rep I spoke with said he would call me when they come in. Since I'm still up in the air about whether I want to get 8 or 16gb of ram, I'll wait a few days for his call. If by the end of the week they don't have them in, I will order online.
Lying SOBs.....Was told they would have units available for sale at 10am. Was here at 10am and all they got were 5 display units..
I don't think it's really lying, they're just getting bombarded with people asking and they just try to "guess"
Well no luck in Raleigh or Durham. I was first in line at Raleigh, and was a part of a small agitated group who were told they would be in stock, but weren't. One guy drove 100 miles based on the store saying they were in stock. Thanks for lying apple.

I am obviously new around here but thought I would chime in with my experiences. Firstly, it is totally true that the Apple Store treats you differently if you choose the "business" option on their automated system. I gave my family business's name (even though I don't technically work for them) and was put on a waiting list and told I will receive a call when the computers arrive in store. Not only that, they said they could hold a computer for me until the end of the business day (once it comes in, obviously--they haven't received a shipment of retina MBP's yet). They didn't ask for any business information other than a name.
Secondly, I called a local Best Buy and discovered that they *had* received a shipment, but that it had already sold out. I called another Best Buy and was told that they expect a shipment around noon today. I recommend that you check with your local Best Buys, because apparently they have been receiving shipments before Apple stores (in my town, anyhow).

International Plaza had 2 units for sale, both were sold right at 10. I was number 3, so I was out of luck.
They had 3 on display, they are absolutely insane. Can't wait to get one.
Anyone know if any of the NoVA stores have a display model yet? Mines on order but I want to see what I bought.

Yes, I went to Tysons this morning and they had 6 out to see, none to buy.
Yup, 10AM this morning. I asked about more stock, they said they have "tons" of boxes in the back, but they were not sure what was in them. Told me to call later in the afternoon.
My guess is that they will have some later today. With most releases, they get a daily shipment of items.
Where did you hear they were matching the Apple student discount and giving $150 GC?
Does anyone know (or can assume from previous experience) whether or not we would be able to go to a store to pick up a base model MBPR with 16GB of RAM? Once the demand settles down, we should be able to have items shipped to the store, correct?
I can't tell you how much I appreciate your letting me know this information. I am over an hour away and come down only to find they don't have them. If you could let me know if you hear anything more I would appreciate it. Are you going back today? By the way they show up on Best Buy's website. I called Wesley Chapel but no go.

It really does. Incredible that so many people wanting to buy a $2000+ laptop can't get one. I have been around most of Apple's big releases and I always seem to find myself in the same position. Trying to find one of what ever I want

Yeah, always busy there, but they usually get restocked daily. All about being able to get there fast enough when they do.
Yes, I have left my house when they have had them and driven the hour to get there and then they don't.
