Possibly, but that was yesterday. So by now they would be bragging on here about their lucky find.

I just called the Apple Store at Oakridge in San Jose and apparently they had some yesterday but now are sold out (obviously). Which is crazy because I called them at noon yesterday and they didn't have any. So who the hell are these lucky people getting them?!

Anyone find any Retinas in Southern California?

I don't think there's been any confirmed purchased in California at all. :(

Wow, that's the one store in the area I haven't called. Valley Fair, Los Gatos, Palo Alto all said nothing. Valley Fair I called yesterday around 2:30.

I don't know how they're getting them, but it seems atleast a few hundred people have gotten them. I'd guess the issue is that they are only getting somewhere between 1-10 units per shipment and whenever they get the shipment in they sell them off first come first serve so if your store got 3 in at 1:19 and you called at 1 and at 2 it's possible that they would already be out of stock. As far as the stores I've called they all say that they haven't gotten any in yet, other than the display units. Which also leads me to believe that maybe some stores just got shipped a few extra units with their display units and thats what people have been buying.

At this point I have no idea what's going on, but like most other people on here I'm sitting here confused as to why it's so hard to get a company to take my 2 grand.

Update: Earlier this morning, a local Best Buy (in Oklahoma City) had indicated they were expecting a shipment of Retinas around noon. I dropped by at 2 pm and they still hadn't received any. However, I was able to reserve one with no money down through their "presale" reservation program! They will send me an email when it comes in and they will hold it for 72 hours. In addition, they will BEAT Apple's student discount--in addition to $200 off, I will also get a $150 Best Buy gift card. I also have the option of 6 months no interest and 4% back in Rewards points, or 18 months no interest and the regular Rewards points. Seems like a pretty great deal to me--now it's just a waiting game. Hopefully they don't screw me over by not emailing me or something.

Exactly, I went to my Apple store at 10am this morning and they said they were expecting shipment later today. I called every hour or so. Just called, and they received limited shipment somewhere within the last hour and they were sold immediately. They're flying out the door as they receive them. So if you just happen to ask right when they've received shipment, you'll likely be offered one for sale. It's a crapshoot right now.

What kind of deal is best buy giving for students?

Supposedly they are also offering the $200 discount and also giving a $150 Best Buy gift card, whereas apple is giving a $100 itunes gift card.

So, your getting an extra $50 dollars if your a student and buy through Best Buy.

I'm seriously wondering what Apple was thinking. Both stores here in Utah haven't gotten any to sell while online shipping estimates have dropped to 3-4 weeks. Do they not understand that people actually do want Macs and not just iPhones? If they shipped a few thousand here they would probably sell in a matter of days.

Hm, do you think they will match the discounted AppleCare price as well?

My BB said they don't do education discount.

That's just what I have heard from various posts on here. As far as i know, I've never seen BB do any student discounts.

I called them after my horrible experience at Garden State Plaza and they told me they just sold their last one. It was YOU!!! Lol not that I would've bought the high-end anyway...

Garden State Plaza told me that they hadn't got any of them in except the display units.

I've honestly given up. I'm getting sick and tired of calling and running from place to place. I think Ill just hold out for a few more days or until Monday.

Never would have thought a product worth $2200+ would be so hard to find!

I'm so agitated at this point but I've not done all this work just for nothing. I'm going to keep going at it steady until I get one. At this point it sounds like Best Buy is more likely to be getting units, even though I'd much rather buy one at an Apple store for the experience.

We were talking about the Rockaway store on the post you're talking about. This is the story about GSP:

Same thing happened this morning. I called 2 days ago, said they would have it when they opened yesterday. I went there and they said they didn't have any. I called this morning, and I explained that I don't want to drive an hour AGAIN (and through tolls and traffic) and to check to make sure. They said they'll have one for me when the door opens. I was so heated when they told me they didn't.

To make matters worse, I asked to speak to the manager so I can tell her/him to inform his employees that they shouldn't mislead people. Some girl (in blue) comes over and says she's the manager. I ask her to give me the number for a regional because she gives me this stiff attitude (something like, "Well, there's nothing we can do about it."). Flustered, she goes and speaks to another worker (in black; clearly seems to be the REAL manager of the store), comes back and gives me the 800 number for APPLECARE. I was just stumped and I didn't even know what to say. The REAL manager didn't even bother coming over and speaking to me. The most ridiculous thing to happen to me at a retail store... Ever. Wasted 4+ total hours of driving, gas, and tolls. Not to mention I'm literally on a limp because of a minor leg injury (just pisses me off even more lol).

Wait... They're matching the $200 education discount AND giving you a $150 BB card? What...

Is the in-store 2.6 with 8 or 16GB of RAM?

8gb. They don't have any custom configurations in store. you could do a custom config and do the in store pickup, but it would still have to be shipped from China so you're better off just ordering online to be shipped to your house if you want to upgrade anything.
