Ok scratch that, best buy just called me back and said they actually don't have them in stock. This is like some sick psychological experiment apple is running... Lol
Damn, I feel for you. I just find it incredible that they don't have enough stock to satisfy just a few customers. I'm just hoping that a day comes when all the stores get a massive shipment and we're all happy.

Lol if that day will be Monday... The day after I'll be back home, hours away from any Apple store. I've put more faith in Best Buy at this point. At least they know they have some coming soon, and there's a hell of a lot more Best Buys than Apples.

That's for certain. There are probably a dozen Best Buys within a 50-mile radius of my house. Did they tell you that they'd have some coming soon or is that just speculation?

No, they for sure have some coming. It sounded like most stores have orders of 5 base models and 3 of the "high end" models coming via FedEx. I didn't ask what "high end" they mean because I'm just getting the base, but it's probably the $2800 model and not the maxed out one.

Did the circuit of Lenox Mall and Perimeter in Atlanta again this morning - no dice. I called Lenox at 9:10 or so and they told me that they had a few base Retina models in stock, but I'm looking for the 2.6 ghz. Perimeter had nothing whatsoever, despite selling a few yesterday morning. That's it for me - I'm bowing out gracefully and ordering online. I'll get better specs that way anyway...I'm thinking the 16gb RAM will be a better call in the long run than getting the 8gb immediately just to have it.

Just talked to International Plaza again, they were pretty clear none today. Guy I talked to was part of "business team". He was vague, but he did hint that business customers would be getting 1st crack at models as they arrive.

Thanks for the info. I have a high end model reserved. You're correct that it's the $2800 one. Even though Apple Stores have the maxed out version (2.7 GHz, 16 GB RAM, 768 GB SSD) shown on the iPad next to the display they don't seem to be getting them anytime soon. I called as a "self employed businessman" and the business associate said that they were only getting 2.3 GHz and 2.6 GHz options.

they ALWAYS say that. I called yesterday at 5pm and they told me none for the day. I called back at 8PM and I was told they just got some and they were all sold out (except for the ones with french keyboards....they're still available even now). So they're just trying to get rid of us :/

Way I see it on Monday apple said "shipping today", however upon going to the website to order it showed ships in 5-7 days and most people who had ordered them at that time have received an update saying they will receive them on Monday or Tuesday depending on where you live, I haven't heard anyone mention that theirs is scheduled to arrive any earlier than that. So at this point I'm just hoping that is the timeline you can expect for store shipments as well.
I have a hard time believing that Apples sales plan with these is to ship 3 units to some store in the middle of nowhere. If anything I would think the flagship and stand alone stores in big cities would get the bulk of the supply which doesn't seem to be the case. This leads me to believe that the units the stores are selling have nothing to do with the main shipment, which should contain atleast 30-50 units even if there was a shortage. Where those units are coming from I'm not sure but for now I'm assuming no store has received a true shipment of RMBPs and have only been selling units that where just mixed with other items or perhaps they were over shipped display units etc.

I agree with this however, I remember reading somewhere that people will start receiving them today so we might not have to wait until Monday or Tuesday. I have called a few stores in AZ and they have been very open and honest about business accounts get first pick and to date they haven't even sold one to a business customer or regular customer, everything they have received has been display units only.

I got mine at 11 AM the day after it was announced, June 12th. I went to Garden State Plaza in New Jersey. I asked the first guy I saw if I can purchase it and he said they aren't getting them for a few days. I told him that the person I spoke with yesterday said they would definitely have them tomorrow (the 12th). He said unfortunately we didn't get them in. So I asked to speak with a manager, told her the situation. I told her to check if they had any unopened shipments and sure enough they did. I bought the first Retina MBP because I was persistent. Even the manager was misinformed. But be persistent, tell them to check the backroom to double check, ask them to check the tracking on the shipments. I can bet every Apple store had them at that time but were just poorly misinformed because it was a sloppy launch.

Sir I did similar when I saw the FedEx truck offload pallettes of boxes the other day into the store & I was promptly told 'we can't tell you, we won't tell you, we aren't allowed to tell you' & in so many words to fk-off, and trust me I was very cordial about asking & kept a friendly tone...

I had them put my name down for buying via the business side, yet when I asked them if there was a waiting list and where I'd be on it, they emailed me back and simply said "yes, there is a waiting list"... really helpful.

Just did some quick math and assuming each store was set to recieve 50 RMBPs (which is far more than any store has received thus far) with 246 stores in the US that's still only a little over 12,000 units. Which Apple would easily already have on hand. I'm convinced that the shortage is a problem in shipping and not a supply shortage.

I think you're completely correct. There's got to be a major shipment coming. I can't believe that a multi-billion dollar corporation would be so inept as to not supply their retail stores with new merchandise. How many MacBook Pros are usually sold in the first few weeks after a release?

Again, I agree. We all see it as "High Demand!!" but there aren't that many of us really commenting here and we all have tunnel vision. It won't be long before the stores will have enough stock to pass around. I will keep checking everyday so I know when the order is in but I'm not going to burn gas or more importantly my time running around for one. They will come in due time. Long before the 3-4 week shipping I imagine. I am in the market for 2 of the 2.6 512GB models and figure it will be less popular in the long run.

Well guys, I got one. Here's the story.

I arrived at the Ridgedale Apple Store at around 9:30. I didn't know if they had stock or not, I just went based on a hunch that I would pretty much have to be there when the morning shipment came in (if it had any Retina's) to even have a chance of getting one. They were having a training session, so there were people inside and outside of the store. I asked whether they had any Retina's in stock, and the answer was no, but as before they told me I could check out the display models if I wanted to. I almost went home right there, but instead decided to check it out one more time.

Right before I was about to leave, one of their business team members came up to me casually and said something like "awesome, right?" I replied with "yeah, but I wish you had them in stock." He said, "Well, we actually just got a truck in, and there might be one on it."

He then went into the back and checked, and said that sure enough, the first and only Retina MacBook Pro that the store had received was on the truck. They had to unpack the box and check it into the stock system, but then I could buy it. When he brought it out from the back, all of the specialists in the store started clapping and congratulating me, and one of them even took a picture of me holding the box with two other specialists. It was pretty awesome.

So now I am a proud owner of a base Retina MacBook pro (the $2200 one). In conclusion? It's all damn luck, guys. I went based on a hunch, almost left before the truck came in, and managed to buy the first Retina MacBook Pro that that store had ever received within 5 minutes of it coming off the truck.

Until larger shipments come in, calling the stores isn't going to get you anywhere. These things get pulled off the truck and sold within minutes, before the guys answering the phones even know that they were ever in stock in the first place.

Either you have to camp out at a store until the next truck comes in, or just get damn lucky.

Might have better luck at Best Buy when those come in though, especially since it sounds like you can reserve it.

GUYS!!! I got it! I called the Best Buy (in Garden State Plaza) and they told me they literally only got 1 in and couldn't hold it. Luckily it was the base model.

Man I never drove so fast in my life. Thankfully no cops. They matched the Apple student discount and are giving me a $150 Best Buy gift card. Checking out right now.

Sweet sweet victory. Checking out right now with a $2799 model at Best Buy in Cary NC. They have ONE left after me, and it's the 2199 model. They only received one of each. They said the system doesn't allow them to price match the apple edu discount, but they did give me a $150 gift card.

Oh and btw, screw dealing with apple. I was there as the FedEx truck delivered 4+ pallets of gear, and the best I could get out of anyone at the store was to come back in 4 hours and they might have unpacked it.

My impulsivitiy is driving me to go out to BB and try and scoop up a base model MBPR...but my heart knows I need 16GB of RAM :(

I am going to Best Buy.
