Got it at best buy in Mansfield, tx!!! 20 mins drive but worth it. Figured i could drive to a small town in tx and they shoukd have it. They matched the student pricing but no gift card. The best buy where I live said they will give gift card. Gonna go return it there n buy it with the gift card offer.

Pro tip for in-store pickup

Hey guys, *REGARDING RETINA MBPs* here's a pro-tip one of the managers at the Apple Store told me yesterday. Every night at 8pm, apple lists all their new shipments as inventory. So at 7:55pm there could be no inventory listed online (when you order online, in store pickup is unavailable), but at 8pm, you'll see that in store pickup IS available.

Bottom line, check every night exactly at 8pm or 8:01pm to see if you can pickup from a store close to you the next day. Chances are you'll be able to. Rank this post up if you think other people can benefit from it. My apologies if it's already in the thread.

**DISCLAIMER**
This is only for base models- any custom configurations have to be built in China and shipped over so you're better off ordering it straight to your house if you want a custom config.

Retina too?

Again, I agree. We all see it as "High Demand!!" but there aren't that many of us really commenting here and we all have tunnel vision. It won't be long before the stores will have enough stock to pass around. I will keep checking everyday so I know when the order is in but I'm not going to burn gas or more importantly my time running around for one. They will come in due time. Long before the 3-4 week shipping I imagine. I am in the market for 2 of the 2.6 512GB models and figure it will be less popular in the long run.

It's funny when I called a store near me yesterday the guy said, "They seem to be popular I must have got 50 calls about them today", but in reality that was probably me and four other people calling 10 times per day. Yes I think there is some demand, but most people I mention it to, look at me like I'm crazy for wanting to shell out 2200+ for "this" laptop.

Have you tried this? I don't think it will work, because in store pickup is disabled by Apple for the product, not because it's out of stock. For example when they first went on sale, in store pickup was available, but once you clicked on that, it takes you to a page that lists all the stores and the current availability, they all said "unavailable at this location". So if that was the case, then this suggestion would work. But much like the iPhone and iPad releases, Apple has just removed the option of in store pick up for this product, doesn't matter what the stores have for inventory.

I haven't tried it, because my computer is being shipped to me (custom config).
BUT, the manager told me that 2 of the 3 retinas he sold that morning were ordered online the night before and he said they probably did it right at 8.

I see what you mean about in store pick up not being an option, but try again at 8pm tonight!

Apparently, there is one available at the Best Buy in Fair Lakes and one at the Best Buy in Springfield. These are supposed to be display models, but they haven't put them out yet.

So went into my apple store at opening, more than one person there, including the manager said they won't get them for 3-4 weeks.

Which I know is not true. All they are doing is going off the online times.

I'm done trying to deal with incompetent employees or ones that act like they have any clue what's going on.

I guess for this one I'll be patiently waiting until they become available easier in the store, which I'm hoping will be two weeks from now max.

I just went by a local Best Buy and asked the head of the computer department if any of the new retina mbps were in stock yet. He said, "Yes. We do have one, let me go grab it for you." He came back with it and told me, "Sorry, but this one is supposed to be for display only."

He told me there was no way for me to reserve one, and I just had to come back whenever the web page said they were available.

It's their new thing to say now. I think they figure that they can just tell people to f off for a bit while the supplies will accumulate.....not very good customer's service :(

Sweet sweet victory. Checking out right now with a $2799 model at Best Buy in Cary NC. They have ONE left after me, and it's the 2199 model. They only received one of each. They said the system doesn't allow them to price match the apple edu discount, but they did give me a $150 gift card.

Oh and btw, screw dealing with apple. I was there as the FedEx truck delivered 4+ pallets of gear, and the best I could get out of anyone at the store was to come back in 4 hours and they might have unpacked it.

Just picked up the base model. Got the same $150 gift card. Thanks for the heads up!

Update from Pacific Centre in Vancouver...

The new retinas are on display only. They have three of them on the tables, but none to sell and don't expect to have them anytime soon.

Canada got the short end of the deal in stores I guess? First Store I have heard of even getting displays.
