Just picked base retina one up at a best buy in Colorado.. If you talk to a best buy have them check it by the sku 5430514. They can check all the stores in surrounding areas and hold one.. :)

This is an email that I just received from the Apple store in Chandler, AZ, who received a few like many stores did yesterday. I'd been attempting to buy through the business store (they agreed to set one aside if they come in)... could just be pressuring me to buy online through the business store, I guess, doesn't sound too good. Think I might just wait it out and get a 16GB instead of a base.

"Hi xxxxxx,
We just got work[sic] that the Retina's will not be in store in the near future. The way we are being advised is to order online through the business channel. The longer we wait to order online the ship window is increasing. Let me know how you want to proceed.

Thats the email they sent you? Wow, that is a sorry a$$ email.

Deer Park, IL has them on display (absolutely amazing. I was toying around with Aperture for 20 minutes).

A Specialist said they have daily deliveries, but is unsure of when they'll be getting them in stores.

Didn't have a chance to go across the street to the Best Buy to see if they were in stock.

Kinda pathetic that stores like Bestbuy are able to get them before the Apple stores AND are offering much better service

I purchased the only model in Austin this afternoon at Best Buy. Score!

Aw snap, good job! Which Best Buy was it? I "pre-ordered" one yesterday at Best Buy in Austin.

Oh scratch that! I literally just received email from BB that mine is ready for pickup. I can't believe Best Buy is more reliable than the Apple Store.

I just went to my local Best Buy. Take this with a grain of salt, since you never know, but...

The rep there said the information they got from corporate said that any inventory that is received now is not to be sold; they have not reached their release date from Apple for third party resellers.

Edit: especially considering the person right above me just said they got their official confirmation from Best Buy.

Purchase in Austin

Hi everyone, I am totally new to the site, but since I have been following this thread for the past couple days I figured I would post my experience. I was able to snag one at the Austin Apple Store this afternoon. However, it was only because my family has a business account and they miraculously kept their promise to call me when they got them in stock (I think I was literally #1 on their waitlist since I practically called during the keynote).

I am thrilled to have one but did not get to use the student discount (business discount is not near as good and AppleCare is $110 more!), and have to say it was a pretty sketchy situation. There was a guy looking at the display RMBPs in the store right when I was there, and when he asked about buying one, employees blatantly lied, saying "We haven't gotten any to sell yet!" while I was purchasing one right behind them!!

After this experience, I would encourage everyone else to either use the Best Buy route or take advantage of the business services at the Apple Store. I truly believe that some stores may have them in stock (albeit very few), but they're holding them for the business customers and it will take sheer luck - as evidenced by the rest of the thread - to happen upon one in an Apple Store!

Good luck!!

US 290 - and congrats!

What?! You got one?! At garden state plaza??? I called them like four times throughout the day and they told me each time that they didn't get a shipment and they didn't know when. Those liars.
Yup, they denied having it at first but I didn't believe it so I insisted that the head manager checked the back. I can post a picture of the receipt if you'd like :)

Translation:

We are tired of all the phone calls and people coming into the store asking about the damn Retina MBPs. We have better things to do than constantly deal with fanboys. Order the damn thing online and leave us the hell alone.

Uh-oh, hope I don't go in to pick it up after work and receive a major buzzkill when they tell me they can't sell it yet. :(

If anyone in the Rochester NY area is looking for a 2.6/8gb/512gb model, Best Buy in Henrietta has one. They had a base model that they wouldn't sell me (it was to be used as a display unit) but the higher end model was up for grabs.

I had called Best Buy this morning and they actually had some in stock, but very unfortunately I'm unable to actually purchase until Friday.

I saw what some people have been posting about their experiences at Best Buy, so I went there and asked a sales worker at the computer section about reserving a RMBP, and she said she hadn't actually heard about reserving it. She rang her manager over, and they spent about 15 minutes on the store computer trying to figure it out. Then, they found out about it and they took down all my information and told me that I'm actually the very first person on the list, but are unable to tell me when a shipment will come in.

They printed out my reservation receipt, and it says they'll notify me by phone and email when one comes in. Like what other people have been saying, I have 72 hours to pickup after they recieve it, so if (unlikely) they happen to get it Thursday morning, they should be able to hold one for me until Friday. I also asked them if they honor the education discount that Apple has, and she said they definitely do. :)

Got an email from Best Buy saying it's ready for pickup! I'm unable to purchase it until tomorrow morning when my account clears, so I called them and they said they can actually hold it for a week, but if I'm coming in tomorrow morning it's no problem at all. She said she saw one with my name literally on it in back. :D

Just got back from 14th st apple store in NYC.
Obviously they were sold out, but I was told they have no idea at all of when or what they're getting in.
The also did tell me that they did get a bunch of maxed out machines in but they sold out instantly.

Sorry for the non-info.

While I guess what she is saying could be true, I tend to think otherwise. The way I see it, there have been three distinct shipping time frames on the Apple site. It was 5-7 days, then went to 2-3 weeks and now it sits at 3-4 (which will hopefully be where it stops) so to me that means that apple just allocate a certain number of units, per shipment time frame. I would bet that each of those shipment time frames will also include units that will be shipped to stores. So the by the third time frame apple stores should be seeing their third large shipment of RMBPs, which would average about 1 or so per week for the next four weeks, starting the begining of next week(when the majority of the first pre-orders are set to arrive in customers homes). Now this is just speculation and isn't going on anything other than common sense. If they had units available initially they wouldn't have had a 5-7 day waiting time before shipment on the initial orders.

Best Buy Pick up this morning!

Hi guys,

People living in the Phoenix, AZ area. I just walked into the Chandler, AZ store and picked up the one and only retina display base model.

What's more is that I got $200 student discount + $150 BB Gift Card (in lieu of the back-to-school $100 Apple store card).

Initially they said they will either do $100 EDU discount or $150 BB Card. I asked to talk to the store manager and BOOM! I lucked out seems like. :D

Pic :) I am a happy camper. :apple::apple::apple:

This is literally the best post in this thread.

When I go to my Best Buy and they try to say that corporate wont let them do both discount and gift card, I'll refer them to this.

Thank you, and congrats!

I finally got one. I called all the Apple stores in the DC, MD, and VA area but I got the cold shoulder with macbook pro and retina display. No one knew what they were doing. This was not apple's best job.

I called up 2 best buys in the area and luckily a very nice lady at the Best Buy in Fair Lakes, VA and she held one for me. They gave me $100 student discount and I can't be any happier.

;)
