Actually best buy is matching $200 Apple discount and upping gift card to a $150 BB giftcard. it's a better buy at BB

I really don't want to drive to downtown Chicago at 5pm tonight, but maybe the Chicago one will get them in too.
I got one today, too. Danbury store called me because I had told them I was interested in a base model yesterday over the phone and mentioned my company was part of the Joint Venture program. The business specialist called around 11am today and said while they haven't gotten in any for sale, they had ONE extra that came with the displays. She said she'd hold it for a half hour and I rushed done to purchase it! Haven't turned it on yet--still at work--but it definitely is thin. I'm pumped.
I think the apple stores have really only gotten the displays and are selling extra units if they happened to get them, that's it. The apple business specialist mentioned some stores didn't even know they were displays and sold them right away earlier this week and then had to have other apple stores ship them some so they could put some on display! This confirms a lack of awareness on the retail level, which is most of the issues we've been hearing.
Good luck, everyone. Once they actually get some shipments, hopefully this craziness will subside.

I have bought from that store before and they have honored the student discount. Definitely good to hear. Now find me one please!!! I am still a student, I'm actually looking for 2 of the 512GB models for me and my father. Going to use the student discount on both (different times or different stores of course).

I decide to give International Plaza one more visit. I am surprised that are putting out 2 more display models as I arrive (up to 6 now)....Could they have gotten a shipment? Yes, of just display models! It's great that they have 6 available to mess with and none to buy.....

This is just insane.
I called a random Best Buy just hoping that maybe one would have them.
I called the Yorba Linda store here in California, and I do not know why I chose to call them, but I did.
I asked if they had the retina, and he told me they wouldnt have them for a couple weeks. (thats what his manager told him). I asked if he could look up the sku to check other stores, and when he did he paused and told me to hold on a second.
He came back to the phone, and he told me that I may be the luckiest person ever, because as I was talking to him, they were unloading them off the truck. All they had were the display one, and an extra one, which they held for me and I made the 30 minute drive for.
I got the 200 dollars off for the student discount, but not the gift card. I did not want to push the issue.
I know best buy gets alot of bad rep, but man do they come in clutch for me. the iPad 2 I got on launch day in a 3 hour wait, and now they come through with this. I am so happy. And it looks like I locked in another year of rewards silver membership. Insane.
Edit: Seeing that people are getting the gift card too, should I go to my local store and try to get one? 150 is 150, and would be cool to have.

Anyone know when Walden Galleria in Buffalo, NY will have any in stock? Called them yesterday and they only have the ones for display and seemed like they're bothered by people calling. The employee who picked up told me "The fastest way of getting one right now is by ordering one online and having it shipped to the store, or directly to your house." Too bad Ship-to-store is not an option when ordering online.

Hi guys,
People living in the Phoenix, AZ area. I just walked into the Chandler, AZ store and picked up the one and only retina display base model.
What's more is that I got $200 student discount + $150 BB Gift Card (in lieu of the back-to-school $100 Apple store card).
Initially they said they will either do $100 EDU discount or $150 BB Card. I asked to talk to the store manager and BOOM! I lucked out seems like. 😀

You mind re-posting your receipt and make sure you black out the receipt # and Serial number # of the MBP. I would really like to see this and even possibly print it out to show proof to my local BB.

BB Gift Card is pretty much worthless. For $150, I can probably buy a paper clip with Geek Squad guarantee for 3 years.
Much prefer cash 🙂 I am going to try to sell it on CG for you know... real money!? lol.

I called every BB store from Daytona Beach to Ocala to Lakeland to Melbourne (a big block of FL) and the only one that had a retina MBP in stock was the one in Ocala with the 2.6/526Gb/8GB. I don't need that big of a hard drive so I'm looking for the base. The Daytona beach one was the only store to tell me apple has not authorized their sale of the RMBP yet.

I'd print that image out and let them know that other BB's are offering student discount and $150 gift card.
Just be persistent and they should cave! And make sure you speak to a manager before you give up.

let them know the deal and if they don't believe you tell them you can login to apple and show the reduced price and gift card..

Any chane that someone in the Sacramento, CA area have gotten their hands on one? I called up the Best Buy in Roseville and spoke to a very nice young lady who said she didn't have any and that they couldn't hold them for anyone but she had taken down a couple of people's names and numbers and was going to call them when they came in. She asked if I wanted to do the same and she'd call me if they got some in so I figured why not? Couldn't hurt and I'm only working 10 minutes away from there. But just wondering if anyone tried the Apple stores around here yet?
I posted a picture of the receipt in my previous posts (look back 10-15 replies or so in this thread). Print that picture out and ask them the following:
- Price match by going to Apple EDU Store online ($2199 - $200= $1999)
- Ask them for $150 BB Gift Card in exchange for the $100 apple itunes card.
Show them the picture as a proof. 🙂 Ask for manager and be polite but persistent. 😀

Hey, you wouldn't mind posting a full image of the receipt. But obviously with the SN# and barcode blacked out. Just the receipt! Would be very helpful.
