Hopefully getting mine soon through the ridgedale business seller. I'm out of town for the rest of the week ut he said if they get one in he will call and I'll authorize payment. I just don't want to wait 3 weeks.
Wow guys best buy just keeps on amazing me.
I decided to go to my local store to see about the 150 gift card. Trae helped me, he works there and knows me very well. He talked to the mac specialist, and she said i should definitely have gotten the 150 gift card.
Customer Service was trying to figure out the easiest way to do it, and they ended up just discounting the macbook 150 dollars.
WOW!!!!
So because of tax change from the price change, i got 160 dollars cash back instead of a 150 gift card. Best Buy really is the best right now. They effectively took the cost down to 1849 base price......
Amazing.
Moral of the story, talk to the mac specialist if your best buy has one and make sure you get both promos.

After several days of "no clue" phone calls to the Apple Stores in the DC Metro Area, I finally gave up and decided to call my local Best Buy. They had 1 left. Bought it over the phone and just picked it up. I'm a loyal Apple fan and just this one time isn't going to do much to sour my opinion of their typically great customer service, but they really botched this launch.
Would have made so much more sense to tell us that the MBPR would be available a week from WWDC or set a specific date. They could have gathered inventory on their stores/taken pre-orders online without creating the expectation that these puppies would be available right away.
Very surprising considering that our friend Tim is such a supply chain nut. Oh well. Best of luck to all of ya'll and I'd definitely encourage you to try Best Buy at this point if you can't. Their phone hold policy is absolutely wonderful especially for those of us who can't be traveling around all day to various stores.

yep. i showed a certificate of enrollment and my drivers license and the manager was totally cool with that. you'll just need some legitimate proof that you're a student and you should be OK
No joke, but i was reading a thread on another website last week where the guy just found some fake school schedule template online and slapped his name on it....crazy
But, eh....for $200, why not?
I usually just log into my university account...thats proof enough.
Got one!! Best Buy in Sarasota Tamiami, finally got through after 2 pm, guy was super friendly, a change to the recent experience I had with apple staff.. He properly went back to check, and double check and make sure it was retina.. Helped that he knew his stuff. He kindly put it on hold for me.. They had one more that I believe was also reserved, but give them a try as I can't confirm it it was a retina that was on the shelf.. He said there was one more though.
Base model btw!!! Can't wait to open it up didn't think id be getting one for a month!
And because it's best buy, rewards points comes to around $45 worth, no reward points at apple, just endless morons playing with iPads and browsing Facebook

Government Discount at BB?
I wonder how the government discount would work at BB, cause Apple does give me the same discount as the student ($1,999 for base model) online, but I don't see nothing about a gift card as the student thing as they promoted.
Hm I might just order online in few weeks though, cause I want the Base model w/16GB upgrade...

I think the $150 gift card is a back to school promotion. So it wont work for government, also I think you have to purchase in store to get it.
I had been calling my 2 local area apple stores non stop since the keynote. Today, I decided to try Best Buy on the advice of this thread. I got two retinas from separate best buys (one in Bellevue, WA the other in Tukwila, WA). One of the base model for my wife, and the middle config for me.
I had a look at their inventory screen, almost all the stores in WA had 1 on hand, many had 2 or 3, with another 2 or 3 in transit.
Go to Best Buy if you really want one.

I got one at the Best Buy in Overland Park, KS. Got them to give me the student discount. What is this other $150 discount? Is there any advertising on it. What do I ask for when I go back?
Just say that BB is doing a back to school promotion and that you should have received $150 gift card: take a look at this receipt and give them the SKU: 5700826.
better yet, like another member did, try to just get them to refund the $150 and credit it back to your card.
Oh my, just went online to Apple.com. They now allow you to select a store for pickup.....oh yeah, it says it's available for pickup on July 20th!

Well, I am now CERTAIN I am buying one through Best Buy.
Interesting.... I just went to Apple's online store and added a RMBP to my cart... Got all excited for a minute b/c the store pickup option became available.... Only to find out that it said ships to store and won't be available for pick up till July 20th.... Hmmmmm
It probably isn't checking the stock in stores, more likely it's just a ship-to-store option.
