Ship to store? That is a thing?! I've been hunting for a way to buy a BTO RMBP in New Hampshire 35 minutes away so I can avoid tax. Willing to wait a month!
 
Best buy is really kicking ass lately. I just went through this with my new camera. I preordered a Nikon D800 and 70-200vrII from B&H and was on eternal backorder. I walked into the local Best Buy the day after launch and missed the last one by an hour. Ordered it and picked it up a week later when I had still not heard anything from B&H.

I'm buying a new macbook tomorrow (haven't convinced the Mrs on the retina yet) but either way I'm going to BB unless they have it at the Navy Exchange (no tax). We'll see...
 
Online apple store said july 20 for me, EXCEPT 1 store. Now i'm just waiting for the confirmation for pickup to come in my email so I can go get it! Kinda thinking this is too good to be true.
 
Success! Another point goes to the Fair Lakes, VA Best Buy. 2.6 512GB one this time. $200 student discount plus $150 BBY gift card.

I asked for the sake of everyone here thats in the DC area but they only had this one in stock. The apple rep there said its the only one that was appearing in the DC area bby inventory for all models but this is in constant flux so take that with a grain of salt. At noon Pentagon City said there were 0 at all stores. Its now 6:30p. Also kudos to the apple rep at the store who was very helpful and made sure I got the right discount.
 
It seems that at least some stores are showing product in stock for pickup.

yeah, I was also going through the stores and one store, Natick, MA has them IN STOCK. too far for me
Start checking for in store availability people!!!
 
I got one! This message coming to you from a 256 RDMPB!

Yesterday I put myself on a local (Chicago area) Best Buy reservation list, and today they called me up telling me to come get it. The guy told me that they only received two, one 256 and one 512, both meant for display. However, the store workers had a half hour debate and decided that since I was the only one who had reserved one, they would put the 512 on display and sell me mine! He said they weren't expecting any more for 2-3 weeks, so I got really lucky. They even matched Apple's student discount (though I had to show them via Apple's website what the deal was, and for some reason they did it so I paid $2049 and got a $150 gift card).

This thing is amazing. Good luck to everyone else out there. I cancelled my 2-3 weeks Apple order, so hopefully someone will get it slightly quicker now.
 
My local best buy will match 200 dollars discount, but they are not matching 150 dollars on promotion... What the...


My store is stupid.
 
Decided not to get one

I was pretty pumped to get one after watching the announcement the other day. I went into the store that evening and the next morning, and they didn't have any.

After thinking about this some more, I'm going to stick with my 2011 MacBook Air instead.

Apple's handling of this hasn't been good.

Is there any kind of advertising attached to that? Would be easier to walk in there if I could explain what the promo is supposed to be rather then just give them an sku.
 
They had them in the Amsterdam (Netherlands) Apple store when I was in earlier today. Four on display, all 2.3/256/8 base models and for some reason someone had switched them to a scaled resolution which I initially was unimpressed with. Once changed to Retina, absolutely phenomenal display, and really really obvious that it's a big step up in displays compared to the regular screens next to them.

The guy in a blue shirt said that they hope to have more in over the coming days with various specs.
 
Just found out that Best Buy Chula Vista (San Diego) has a few base models in stock as well. Other Best Buys in San Diego don't have any at all.

I actually emailed it to HQ. They are going to find me a store that will...

I live in Maryland, but I work in DC and Virginia. I can go to at least 25 different stores during weekdays.

They will find me one that can match this price.

I don't see it, but as long as you have an Sku and have them enter it in, it shouldn't be a problem. I've also heard its based store by store. Some stores strictly do not do it, others do, so that may be the reason they dont have any advertising.
 
I called 3 different best buys in LA area and one of them said they had them in stock but for pre-order only...other two didnt have any. What are the chances that they have extras left over and the girl didn't know what she was talking about? I'm about to leave on a trip and just sold my old macbook so now im computerless ::facepalm::

you should have had them manually enter the SKU!!!

Don't even start with apple store. They have 0 in stock and 6 in display.

I'd ordered mine online and went to a store in Cincinnati, OH just to look at the display models. When I got there, I saw someone else buying one and asked if they had any left -- they had around five. Had JUST received them. A half hour later they had one.

It seems like they get shipments throughout the day, so one thing to try if you really want one is to just hang around the store and let the sales reps know why you're there.
