Both the Apple Store and Bestbuy have told me they have one to sell.
After the staff went to the stock room to get it, suddenly did not exist ???
I think Best Buy has units and the Apple stores don't because less people think to go to and to call Best Buy. Also there are way more Best Buy stores than Apple stores, so if Best Buy ordered x number of units per store, there is a much greater chance that they will have stock. In Apples case, people have been lining up outside everyday just in case they get stock and some people have basically waited around all day until the shipments did come in. Also Best Buy is a huge business partner for Apple, so they have an obligation to make sure they get the supply they ordered even if it means they will have less stock to sell in their own stores.
I'm not defending the way Apple has handled the launch especially in their retail stores, but I don't think it's fair to knock them based on Best Buy having more stock than Apple. I have a feeling that once Best Buy's initial shipments dry up, they will be out of stock for awhile.
Just stopped by the Apple Store Georgetown (DC) for a MBP.R, The guy said"no, we don't have any in stock yet, here's a card with the number to call."
"I already have the number and have been calling it."
"Oh, well take a card, call the number at the bottom and they will tell you whether or not we have them in stock"
"Fine, I'll take a card. I'll keep calling, though have never had luck with that in the past with this store. Thanks."
"Thanks for visiting the Apple store!"
Anyway, I'll try again next week. One interesting thing is that all of the demos they have in store seem very dim, even on full brightness. This is a change from the retina searing 17" and iPads.
Called my local BB. Computer showed that they had stock. Guy went to the back and was able to put his hands on them, but said they are on hold right now (hold comes from Apple according to the rep from BB) and cannot sell them.
Got a similar storey yesterday ... Apple why why why?
Assuming they were in stock at Apple.com and the Apple Stores it would keep people from buying them all from 3rd party retailers. The fact that nobody has any and there are ones that can't be sold is pretty ridiculous.
I am heading to my local BB to see what I can get for the 13" MBP after I finish my coffee..
I will post results when I get home.
Don't all of the Apple stores have the new 13" MBPs? I thought the retina ones were the only issue here??

went to my local apple store and bb every morning since keynote.
neither store said they had any in stock.
the apple employees really are clueless. this is a black eye for apple.
this launch and the iPad 2 launch by apple have been terrible.
the mac book pro launch about 4 years ago had shortages and that
cleared up in a couple of weeks.
i have stopped searching for these unicorns. i will just wait until i can go into the apple store and pick one up without issue whether it's 2 weeks or 2 months.
this is just a prelude to the iPhone launch in the fall.
cheers
