Just got back from MacMall and the website inventory is correct...quite a few in stock. Base model only and I don't think they do student discount.

no gift card! :(

Ohhhh :( I didn't get the $150 gift card only the $200 discount. Do you think that if I bring them the picture of the receipt that someone posted on here, they'll give it to me?

I have in SF.

I've got this problem too (finally used a $50 GC that I've had for two+ years). I'd get an external hard drive if you don't already have one. I'm also thinking about getting a laptop sleeve or some other Apple accessories... stuff that isn't usually discounted. I wonder if you can use the GC to buy a Mac Store GC?

Good idea. I am going to call them tomorrow and ask! :) Should be doable since they're completely different entities. :D

So I got the $150 BB gift card, but they would not price match the $200 off on the base retina of $1999.00. I tried to show them the receipt that was taken here, but they would not budge. They said policy is the $150 BB gc.

Any ideas? Anyone get both at a store here in the Bay Area, CA?

Anyone with luck in Best Buy getting the discount for the 13" Macbook Pro? Discount and Gift Card? What are we looking at $150 GC and $100 discount?

I am going to try tomorrow, if I succeed I will post receipt.

This thread is exploding so I don't think I'm going to follow it anymore (especially since I already got one ), but best of luck to all of you! Seems like a lot more stock is coming in so I'm sure you'll all be able to get one! :) It is an awesome machine, you will not regret it.

Just ordered the Retina MBP loaded up. I had to do shipped to store and it finally let me, but pick-up date is July 20th. 5 weeks from tomorrow, so I guess I'm going iPad only till then, I'll survive. I just sold my 2009 MBP for $700. It better be worth it.

I went to a local BB here in socal that had the base model available but was only able to get a $50 discount + $150 gc. I show them the photo of the receipt of the other user here and they said they could not match it because that BB should not have done that discount. After going back and forth for like 30 minutes I caved and took the deal they offered but I left PISSED.

For my own sanity, I called other BB in the area and found one they said BB has an offer going on right now that was $150 off + $150gc, basically matching apples total discount for students. But this BB store did not have the rMBP in stock. This BB store offered to call the manager of the BB store that I just made the purchase from but was unable to get him on the line. So I tried calling them and was able to talk to the manager and explain what the other BB was telling me. He couldn't have been more of a absolute D**K to me. I explain that another BB was giving this offer and that the store's manager even agreed to explain it to him but he wouldn't budge. Telling me he never heard of this offer and that he knew the "play book" and didn't need to talk to the other BB manager.

I going to other BB in the mourning to see if other BB would honor the full discount and if they do I'm going to return the one I purchase today. It's killing me that I have a brand new rMBP in my possession and can't even open it.

Like a full scan of the receipt. Trying a get a straight picture that's not all crooked and looks as legit as possible.

Here's the best I could do. No scanner but at least it's straight this time ;)

Yeah man, this BB business is a little shaky. Half of these so-called-managers aren't fully apprised of the store policies. YMMV type of deal here. Try different BB stores. I am sorry for you man - that kind of stinks to have the laptop in front of you.

why can't i get any best buy near me to do this?? lol

You're lucky. The day is over here.

Drove over to the Best Buy and was met with negative results. They were having the laptop picked up from another Best Buy across town but apparently that store sold it in the 20 minutes it took the employee to drive over and get it. No idea why they didn't just set the laptop aside since the managers from both stores talked to each other.

However, the manager from the store I was going to buy it from was really polite and took my phone number and will honor the $200 discount + $150 BB gift card as soon as she can get one (whether it be from a store transfer or their own stock). For now, I sit here with a still wrapped MBPR from a previous Best Buy that was incredibly rude.

Mira Mesa?

I was purchasing from La Mesa, but the laptop was coming from Mira Mesa.

I went to the El Cajon location and purchased the higher end model that they are transferring from Mira Mesa. They said that I can come and pick it up tomorrow morning. I hope I wasn't the one who took yours!

You should have driver straight to Mira Mesa! I have a higher end with 16GB ordered through apple that should be in next week. I was gonna cancel but won't if your want it. PM me if you want it.

I was going to but I didn't want to hassle with dealing with another manager to honor the education pricing. Don't let me change your mind about whether or not you cancel it :) . I can wait a bit longer! If you do pick it up tomorrow, I hope you enjoy it. I think it's a funny story that we both belong to MacRumors :D

Seriously man its a small world. Im gonna have to wait until the one I ordered is delivered to return it anyway because I have to return the iTunes card too. I prefer BB because of the extra money saved and their warranty plan. I suggest you go to El Cajon because their staff told me about the discounts and bent over backwards to find me the one I wanted in San Diego! They are your best bet! Also, They are expecting a delivery themselves on Sat!

Has your laptop been shipped from Apple yet? If it hasn't you can cancel it still most likely and what they do is just void the iTunes gift card even if it has been mailed out already.

Thanks for the heads up about El Cajon; I'll give them a call tomorrow morning. And they gave you $200 off the laptop + the $150 gift card?

Picked up a RMBP from the pasadena store today, got the last one they had! They said they were the only store in the area to actually stock the rmbp and said they had about 25 on tuesday to sell.. Probably the best place near LA to grab one.

Yeah $200 + $150 without an effort. I didn't think they would do the $150 so I didn't mention it but they brought it up and offered it. I used the $150 gift card on their extended warranty (better than applecare IMO because it guarantees you the newest model for free in 2 years).

Awesome, thank you!

2.6GHz/512GB in Murrieta, CA

Best Buy saved the day.

I was on the business customer "interest list" at the UTC Apple Store (La Jolla, CA); however, the Apple Store allegedly received stock and sold them to walk in customers. Several Apple employees denied this, but others confirmed it. It seems they cannot get on the same story.

I managed to track down models in Best Buy stores. One in Mira Mesa and two in Oceanside, but both were 2.3GHz models. (The Mira Mesa location would not hold the computer; it sounds like the model referenced in a previous post.)

A Best Buy Oceanside employee checked stock at Murrieta, and they had one 2.6GHz/512GB in stock. I called the Murrieta store, and they said it was for display but had not been opened. The "supervisor" agreed to let me purchase it. They held it for me until I made the drive up.

The Best Buy Oceanside had two 2.3GHz models in stock around 5pm.

While service and offers vary by store, Best Buy was far more helpful than any Apple Store. I am pleased I have it in hand. I'm downloading Adobe Creative Suite now. It should be a fun weekend. :)

I'm picking up my reserved base RMBP in about 10 hours, if there's anything anyone wants me to demonstrate or take pictures of, just let me know. :)

I ended up picking up a base model Retina MacBook Pro at MacMall in Santa Monica. For anyone in the LA area, all three MacMall stores (Santa Monica, Torrance, Huntington Beach) have base model RMBPs in stock.

Thank you very much to the individual who first posted information regarding RMBP stock at MacMall stores in this thread! I can't seem to find the original post, but I wouldn't have gotten a MacBook Pro today had it not been for that post.
