I ended up picking up a base model Retina MacBook Pro at MacMall in Santa Monica. For anyone in the LA area, all three MacMall stores (Santa Monica, Torrance, Huntington Beach) have base model RMBPs in stock.

Thank you very much to the individual who first posted information regarding RMBP stock at MacMall stores in this thread! I can't seem to find the original post, but I wouldn't have gotten a MacBook Pro today had it not been for that post.

Hey,

In LA, do they have students discount? do they charge taxes? how much stock do they have do you think?

Thanks.

macNewbie02: Yes, they do charge sales tax, and I wasn't able to get the student discount, unfortunately. If you go to www.macmall.com and go to the product page for the new RMBP, it will tell you exactly how many units each store has in stock.

Anyone know if the new MBP's will be in store today? I haven't wanted to buy on release day for a while so I'm not sure if the stores get them on the day they start shipping or if there is a few day delay.

Thanks,

Y2J

I guarantee when you made this post you had no intention of it becoming like one of the biggest forum posts on Macrumors...lol

So it looks like in store pickup has been made unavailable (again) on apple.com, anyone else get an order it while it was up last night? I'm curious to see how long it takes for it to be ready for pick up.

You think we will have any luck this morning?

Seems Best Buy is the best bet now. I believe Apple Stores locally may have some but they are not giving out information. Maybe if you camp out there all day and see them being wheeled into the store you might get one:) Calling seems to get one no where.

Yeah. Lakeland bestbuy claimed to have non yesterday and didn't know when they'd be getting them. They also said they didn't price match education discount.

How do you guys check stock, do you simply call them and give them the SKU?

Anyway I am trying the local bb and apple first thing tomorrow. Anyone have any details on the BBs in new york?

At this point, I have no faith or confidence in the central Florida Apple stores. Like I said yesterday, Apple is giving no information to their retail stores. Employees have no clue. It is almost comical that Best buy has units for sale while Apple Retail stores don't.

So funny, International Plaza has 6 units on disply and none for sale. Nice work Apple.

Not confident at all. Central Florida Apple stores have no clue as to what is going on.

I think Best Buy has units and the Apple stores don't because less people think to go to and to call Best Buy. Also there are way more Best Buy stores than Apple stores, so if Best Buy ordered x number of units per store, there is a much greater chance that they will have stock. In Apples case, people have been lining up outside everyday just in case they get stock and some people have basically waited around all day until the shipments did come in. Also Best Buy is a huge business partner for Apple, so they have an obligation to make sure they get the supply they ordered even if it means they will have less stock to sell in their own stores.
I'm not defending the way Apple has handled the launch especially in their retail stores, but I don't think it's fair to knock them based on Best Buy having more stock than Apple. I have a feeling that once Best Buy's initial shipments dry up, they will be out of stock for awhile.
