so I have an update on the second G4.

if I make my G5 a bootable drive it will boot from the tiger install on the G5 using firewire.

I have not tested the internal drive yet.

fingers crossed it works

Mactubes and youview don't work anymore it seems, does anyone have an alternative? or would it just be best to download youtube clips and watch them in VLC?

Could be bad ram. Ive seen symptoms like that before with a bad dimm

Hmm.. I removed the original 64MB stick it came with and still, nothing got better. I have 2 256MB chips in there too. With 64MB + 1 256MB chip, it still did the same :/ Ya know any RAM tests for PPC machines under linux?

I'll join in for sure. More motivation to use my G5 that is sitting by my main PC here. I'll still have to use Windows and iOS devices at work. I'll also need to use my smartphone to check scedruleing but outside of that I'm going to make an effort even if other things are trying to push me away for my main daily driver and work machine.

I am preparing for this challenge before I take off to a New Years party tonight.

I wrote a post on the PowerPC Centre with what machines I'll be using, and I also posted this under the PowerPC Centre facebook page. I boosted that post for the entire United States so y'all will have to let me know if you see it in your news feed :) I also shared it with Low End Mac and the likes are certainly rolling in!

For me it is Jan 1 in Australia so here's an update. ;)

My day is not finished yet but i have already had some problems with the G4.

It didn't go to the desktop when i booted it in the morning so i put the 10.4 tiger install disk and used dick utility. it now boots onto the desktop. i think downloading and installing the 10.4.11 combo update must have done some thing. hmm..

My G5 is doing fine tho so that's good.:)

Typed on my G5 :apple:

I would like to participate! I will be shutting down my Mid 2012 MBP i5, 16GB RAM, 500GB HDD for a 12in iBook G4, a PowerMac G3, and a PowerMac G5! (Besides for work, where I must use Windows Workstations)

*Edit* I was thinking of my broken iBook G3 when I had said 14in. The working G4 is a 12in 1.2GHz with 1.25 GB of RAM
