Odd. All the notches work fine for me... no slipping at all even while typing.

As for sound... IMO, its actually a bit better since it bounces off the back of the case. You don't have to "cup" the speaker as much :D

Picked one up from the Best Buy in Eatontown, NJ. Using it right now, it's pretty great and the ipad seems super secure.
For those around here i checked the one in Brick yesterday and they had none. This may have been the last in Eatontown.

anyone mod their incase with magnets to get that smart cover on/off feature.
be interested to see what you guys did

Consider yourself lucky phantom.

After using the case all night on the couch I've developed an opinion.

The 'lowest' position is completely useless. It only works if I hold my finger there as well. The other 2 hold fine. This kinda sucks though because I'd like to have a angle that is a good compromise for viewing and typing at the same time. I cant get that from this case. IMO the lowest notch needs to be lower, and actually work.

Also, when I'm typing in the working position, my thumb seems to be blocked by the case sometimes when I try to hit the space bar. Perhaps this is just my angle, but its an annoyance.

The sound is great, no problems with the case blocking sounds. In fact I think I can hear better since the sound is bouncing up to me instead of blasting out into space away from me.

All in all it's a good case and at $40 it's a steal. However, I think I may give this to my wife if she'll have it, and I will probably wait for Specks case.

Notch number 3 is totally useless...yeah, you're lucky! I wonder if GoInCase is aware of the defect and will replace it for a new one?

Thank you OP!

Picked up the only one they had at the Knoxville TN store (Cedar Creek) last night. This is an outstanding case at a great price.

Interesting, I have been using all three notches and I haven't had a single issue yet. I can rest it on my lap, on a desk, and my soft couch and it doesn't budge at all. Maybe you should return it for another one?

I can't imagine how the last 2 notches can work well for anyone. Unless you just set it there and don't really touch or move it, otherwise it slides down. The first notch works well because it has the weight and leverage to where the slit doesn't need to be that deep. The other two aren't deep enough to accommodate for the angle of the iPad. They work ok if you don't touch it, but not that great. I looked at all of the 7 at my local Best Buy and they were the same.

I decided that I really like this case and am not willing to part with it, so I did a little mod of my own. Now the iPad doesn't budge.

Found a strip of pleather and used just enough to give the iPad support while leaning on any edge. It really doesn't need to go along the entire edge (I didn't have enough material to do that anyway lol)

Not something everyone will want to do but it was easy enough and now this case is even more stable in horizontal viewing and I can type in the last notch without it moving even a little.

I like tweaking things. ;)

*also it doesn't affect closing in any way.

That's a great idea, how did you fasten the strips of pleather to the case? If it's easy enough I'll definitely do something similar.

How did you attach those strips? Glue? What kind of glue?

My only concern is if they don't go all the way across, then those strips may rest directly on the screen. Probably not a big deal, but if I were to do this, I'd have them run all the way across.

Thanks,

Picked this up at a Best Buy while I was in PA outside of Philly. Returned it yesterday to the store in Reston, VA. They still hadn't gotten any in stock, so it was the first they saw it.

It is a sizable and well protecting case for the money. I just couldn't mentally get over that size addition.

I used a super glue gel and spread it evenly on the strip with a toothpic. You dont want too much but enough so the whole side is glued down evenly They are on very secure and don't budge. The strips don't touch the screen even with the strap on, you can peek inside and see. It really doesn't matter as they are soft and have give, and there certainly isn't a constant pressure on the screen from them. Just use a good soft material for sure. When you look inside though you can see plenty of gap created between the cover and screen from the border around the iPad so there is some play before anything touches the screen. Also if you look at the binder part actually making contact with those notches, after a while it bows just a little, so really the only part that sits in well is the middle. I was concerned that having uneven pressure on my strips would cause the screen to sit crooked or something since the edges bow out a bit more than the middle. I dunno. lol I think long strips would work as well but at that point you risk affecting how it closes and it would be much more difficult to glue on evenly. Either way works though.

I'm sure there are better materials out there but I gotta say this little mod works flawlessly. The super glue holds the strips down tight, just make sure you get it all even along the bottom so no flaps can stick up or anything. Get creative. ;). It's very easy just measure it out and be careful with the glue!

I fired off an email to Incase describing the problem and with pics of my mod, I also referenced the posters in here who have mentioned the problem (provided links to your posts). Just curious to see what they will do, if anything, for me. I'm happy as is but those notches really should work better out of the box. It's by no means a deal breaker, but there is room for improvement.

The strips are from a strap I cut up from a binocular case. I sure typed a lot about little strips of pleather. heh

and more..

I just picked this case up today, after seeing this thread for the first time yesterday.

Probably one of the best cases for the value out for the iPad2 right now. I absolutely love it more than my Smart Cover, TPU Silicone case combo I was using.

Found a slim magnet at my work...so I taped it to the inside cover along sideof a rubber sticky foot for the last notch.

Heres the profile shot. Nothing protrudes or sticks out to create a lump of any kind.

A level shot, its barely noticeable and easily removable.

I'm a little confused what I'm looking at here. What is in the notch and why is there a piece of tape next to it?

I used a small magnet I found on my daughters little craft things. :) It's basically meant to go on the fridge. Not too strong.

I cut a small hole in the binding, put a little drip of super glue gel in there and just pressed it down in. I left the hole smaller than the magnet so not only is the glue holding it in, but there is pressure from the leather around the magnet as well. It seems very secure, underneath is a hard cardboard. I scored the top just a little with a fine sand paper and painted it black. It isn't quite level with the leather, sticks up maybe 1mm, so not much. The magnet is strong enough though so that I don't have to have the cover strapped and it still keeps the screen off. As soon as you lift a little it turns on.

theres a little rubber "foot" sticky in the last notch to keep the iPad from slipping out of it...it can hold perfectly fine in the first 2 notches, but that last one, it just slips and falls flat. So I stuck this rubber foot sticky in the last notch to keep it from slipping.

the piece of black tape is just there to hold the small magnet in place.

Can anyone compare it to the Targus 360 ipad2 case? It is also available at Best Buy. Is it skinnier? Better looking? Which would you recommend?

Overall I like this case better. The Targus case is actually pretty cool, I was playing with it yesterday. What I didn't like about the Targus case is when you want to just hold the iPad like a book, without using any stand feature, the Targus case you kind of have to just hold the entire flap behind the ipad.

The Incase is designed so you can strap the front flap in place behind the iPad, allowing you to hold it horizontal or vertical in your hands without having to babysit a big flap.

What I really liked about the Targus was the portrait mode option with the swivel. Also it's 20.00 more and I feel the Incase is a better quality. Just my opinion, they are both nice.

This is the best case ever :)

I just upgraded from an iPad 1 to an iPad 2 today and had the previous convertible book jacket. This is sooooo much better! Feels much thinner and lighter than having the old combo. Thanks for letting me know it existed!!

Well I gave my case to my wife. I just don't like it. I don't like the angle for typing on My lap. I don't like how the notches are useless. I don't feel like sticking magnets or tape on my case that holds my $700 iPad.

I've decided to order the incipio hive. I just don't think I like the folio style cases. The hive seems like it will "stick" better and not slide around on my Lap. I'll have to prop it with something, but I'm fine with that.

I'll try to post a review when I get it.
