Indexing is still showing on my iPad. Updated on Monday to the beta. Still no New Siri. Not really sure if my iPhone indexed or not because I never saw any messages saying it was indexing like I am seeing on the iPad.

My iPadPro m4 finished indexing just now (90 hrs) - but I have A LOT of stuff on the iPad. Interestingly, Mail is still indexing (do a search in Mail, and search results has a banner that says Mail is still indexing). But the indexing message on left side of Settings panel isn’t there, so I guess main iPad indexing is done.

iPhone 15 pro is still indexing ~84 hours after installing.

The phone is cool to the touch and relatively responsive, so I'm patient...still...

I'm also wondering if it does a full index of all iPhoto pics. I have "Optimize Storage" on for Photos (and other stuff), but if it's indexing all the photos it's probably gonna take a while.

I also charge it overnight on a Magsafe charger, and someone - in another thread - mentioned that it probably won't index while on that (I guess it's a heat thing), so that might also explain why it goes super slow...
Interesting, I do as well and it’s also still going today whereas any other devices are finished up. Perhaps I shall try plugging in instead…

But where is it? My available storage or system data hasn't changed since indexing started
It’s indexing. Not cleanup.

Indexing is making a list of all the contents on the device so they can make search results better. Not to be confused with cleanup which gets rid of temp files and caches.

Ha! Never was confusing the two. But if there is this massive list being created where is it? Or does this list somehow not take up storage space?/s

How exactly does the indexing time affect anyone on a day-to-day basis
It's more about having an incomplete index - features in playground, photos, general searchs and the like don't operate properly or completely until the index is complete. Having a partially functional phone for several weeks just because of an indexing is inconvenient.

I just found that Playground crashes out if I try and show up the individuals photos of the hundreds of people identified in my Photos album. Is that due to an incomplete indexing or the high numbers of people I have identified? Won't be clear until indexing is done.

Those are text files which take a few KB at a time. Don’t expect any changes in storage.

It’s a beta 1. Are you expecting a flawless execution?

Silly question, of course not. But I can't tell what the bug is if it could be 1) incomplete indexing artifact. 2) flaw in the People API selector, possibly one that doesn't show up unless there are hundreds of People identified.

And since the previous just spotlight index took significant space and this is indexing far more information your claim just doesn't track.

Installed on both iPhone 17 PM and iPad Pro as soon as they were available. Still indexing. I'm not working right now so the devices have been home most of the week.
As for Siri, I didn't realize you had to do something to get on the waitlist so I did that this morning.

Honestly I wish you could hide the message. If it’s going to take 1-2 fine. I just don’t want to know.

I installed within an hour of release on an 17 Pro. It's still indexing.
Same here. Got off of Siri waitlist on Wednesday about 5pm, but still indexing as of almost 5pm Friday after install within 30 mins of release. Only 4 GB of photos, 3 GB of music and under 1 GB of Messages on the device. So not really sure what is happening. I've even Soft Restarted a few times this week. Still there.
